Fact: Out of the last 15 champions 11 of them have been the number 1 seed.
Fact: Pete Sampras won three Wimbledon championships in a row, and then four in a row later on.
Fact: Roger Federer has won 5 Wimbledon championships in a row and is still going.
Fact: From the year 2000 to 2003 there was one Australian in the Mens singles final every year.
Fact: In the last four Wimbledon finals there have only been three players that have played.
Fact: From 1977 to 1980 Bjorn Borg beat an American in every Wimbledon final.
Fact: Going back a long time William Renshaw won a record 6 consecutive Wimbledon championships and 7 all up.
Fact: Every participant in Wimbledon must wear prodominently white.
Fact: From 1946 to 1971 there were only 5 years where there was not an Australian in the Wimbledon final.

The only really big against the trend result was when the legendary Johnny Mac beat Borg in the 1981 final and Borg later retired that year. It is suprising to me that Ivan Lendl never won Wimbledon.

Not too many people can play on grass. The few who can dominate. Too short a season to put too much effort into learning if you're not a top 30 player.

oh yes. i haven't noticed that.
thanks for pointing that one.
could be because there is only one particular type of play that could win you wimbledon OR tradition is so heavily followed that the results also want to be traditional... i don't get what i mean.

I would have figured the only consistent fact about Wimbledon is rain. Except that this is the parallel universe 2008, and wonder of wonders, the weather forecast is looking good.

You can't rely on shitty ball bounces or slow courts (clay), skill and intelligence come in.

For one thing, (I believe) Wimbledon is the only slam that adjust seedings based on past performances there, and on surface performance.

grass is much less forgiving for mistakes, so a short ball or a moonball can be dealt with more effeciently, thus those who have real talents and skills, smart accurate serve and killer strokes with the least mistakes usually win it
