Nicely done Ferru!

Winning a title on grass must be very satisfying for him.

Way to go Ferru! Man...30+ years without a Spaniard winning a title on grass, and then all of a sudden they get 2 in 2 straight weeks. Granted, it was decidedly less difficult than the circumstances of Rafa's title, but that matters not. I hope Pics can carry this through to Wimbledon.

Nothing against Ferrer but Queens or Halle are more significant tourneys then what is happening this week at Hertogenbosch or Nottingham.
Ferrer should have tried to play with contenders last week

I completely agree that grass tennis has changed, but I prefer the new style to the old one.

In Germany there is a commercial with Boris Beckers first win in Wimbledon and it is just so fast, that you canīt see the ball. Often a game took about 2 minutes or less.
I donīt think that that way of playing is more enjoyable.

I prefer a match in which two players have chances to fight - firing one ace after the other or playing serve and volley after every good 1st serve surely is briliant (you have to be a good sportsman/woman), but not nice to watch.

When Pics can be winning grass titles, you know it's the first sign of the apocalypse. Now if Nadal wins the US Open, then it's time to commit mass suicide.

Agreed. Grass courts playing slow, getting rid of carpet courts (there are less tournaments on carpet every year). Tennis is becoming a game for grinders and moonballers. Disgusting.

Well, it's your opinion, but there are many people who find S&V more enjoyable, me included.

Besides we already have 10 months of grinding on all possible surfaces, and there are only 5 weeks of grass tennis, and I don't find anything good in the fact that grass battles are also mainly fought from baseline nowadays. That's just not pleasing to watch, IMO  When I watch lawn tennis, I wanna see ace fests, slice approaches, chip&charge, S&V and net rushing. Speaking about chip&charge, I've almost forgotten how it looks on the tennis court, almost nobody uses it anymore :(

For me the classical grass court tennis is Becker-Edberg. Yes, the games were only 2 or 3 minutes long, but still I like (for grass courts) S&V much more. I can't help myself.

i know, and I think its partly the players fault who have no clue how to play on it... how can a moonballer like ferrer win any grass tournament... pathetic...

Awesome for David, nice to see that he's playing not too shabbily this week.

Of course, Verdasco blew the potential Spanairds on grass hat trick..

i hear you...

there is something gladiatorial about two heavily attacking players going head to head...

now, attack is not the best defense and most players have time to let other come to them... when, during edberg vs becker, if you hesitated a fraction of a second, your chance was missed...

i like the claycourt style... and the s & v style much more... but, i havent seen such contrasts in styles like i remember in the late 80's early 90's...

styles make fights...

and as I said I mean this 100% S&V-style for grass courts. On other surfaces I can watch baseline tennis without problems.

serve volley first and second serve takes years to develop... i know the story of pat rafter where he wasn't a tall kid right thru the juniors... yet, was still encouraged to come forward despite the loss that would seem inevitable...

here lay the deeper knowledge of what it takes... they trusted that one day it would pay off, and, a late growth spurt saw it pay off...

as a coach i know the pressures on kids today for a win comes way too early... this kind of goes against the mentality needed to embrace and develop a proper serve volley style...

thats big money tho...

sooner or later tho jelena, it is my belief that someone will start to bring the serve volley back with devestating effect...

because soon... it will be forgotten...

Plus he was only broken once the entire tournament. Those are certainly not typical Ferrer service stats.

Funny stuff somehow that there was no Spanish title on grass for a long time until Nadal changed this fact and now only one week later Ferrer wins one, too

Ferrer twice had more aces, once 21 http://www.atptennis.com/5/en/players/playerprofiles/popMatchStats.asp?sd=Singles&trnnum=425&trnyear=2006&rnd=3&plyr=F401 and 16 http://www.atptennis.com/5/en/players/playerprofiles/popMatchStats.asp?sd=Singles&trnnum=540&trnyear=2004&rnd=1&plyr=F401
