Ferrer or Davydenko - Who would you take?

Was having this discussion with a friend earlier today. You have one tennis match on a random (unknown) surface and you have to chose between Ferrer and Davydenko. Who would you go with?

N.Davydenko.

The answer is simple if you can answer this question;

How much is the prize money for the match ;)

ferrer

Davydenko

Doesn't matter which surface they play on because they both like clay and hard and grass is their worst surface.

Davydenko any day.

David is by far more agressive and a big returner than Davydenko; and more completed player. Now he has tittles on all surfaces, the russian not.
So I pick Ferru. :)

Haha obviously you don't know your tennis.

Davydenko is way more aggressive than Ferrer and he is also statistically the best returner on tour over the years.

Davydenko does everything better than Ferrer except possibly for the serve. Its really not close.

Donkey has more titles, higher ranking, better GS results and bigger prize money.

Hope this helps any mugs that think Ferrer is better.

Kolya :worship:

Except in Sopot or Umag maybe. Not enough $$$ and points there to even go on court and start playing :)

I don't trust Davydenko with a dollar to buy a lighter at a gas station

Its actually an interesting matchup. Both are strong returners, and I would give Ferrer the edge in the serve department. They both cover the court very well, and Ferrer has bigger, better forehand, but Davydenko has a better backhand, which could counter Pic's big inside out cross court forehand. I'll have to think about this one.

overall Davydenko of course.

Ferrer is more regular with his serve but at their best Davydenko has a bigger serve.

With any kind of showing at all at Wimbledon Ferrer will pass Davydenko for world #4.

PMK on any surface except clay.

PMK's serve is overrated- it's nothing special, and he often goes for percentage serves instead.

Donkey will be infront of Ferrer in the rankings come the end of the season. Ferrer won't be doing too much damage during the US hardcourt swing or indoor events IMO.

And what exactly would that prove? Davy has finished 3 straight years in top 5. Ferrer was ranked ahead of him for a couple of weeks earlier this season, doesn't mean he was a better player back then.

What titles has Ferrer won that compare to Miami and Paris. Also Ferrer has one slam semi and Davy has four of them.

There is really no argument one could make for Ferrer over Davydenko at this point.

I prefer to watch baseline hugging game of Davy ...if he was not a mug and had a bigger serv..he would have been a constant threat to any one on hard court and clay..imo he is better than pic

Yep those 2 QFs at Cincinnati, 2 QFs at Paris, a QF at Madrid and a SF at USO are all flukes.

i like ferrer but i'll have to go with Davy on this one. He is very consistent and less erratic player than ferrer. ferrer is terrifc returner but he can be error prone at times.

Ferrer is a better player on grass and possibly clay. Hard and carpet you'd have to take Davydenko, but on a whole they're pretty evenly matched.

The most discernible difference is Davydenko's consistency over the past few years. Ferrer took longer to develop into the player he is today and even now is more susceptible to the occasional shock loss.
