Why can't Nadal be beaten on clay?

Obviously Nadal is amazing on clay but he has been beaten before, Federer should have beaten him in Rome and he's bagelled him before, so he's not indestructible. Anyone mind giving me a few points why he can't be beaten?
Is it his speed, topspin forehands or determination? Other players have those yet they never use them against piggy.

Cause he is very good on clay? You go aggressive you get everything back, you go passive, he kills you with his forehand, backhand that is not so dangerous but doesn't miss and it is usually very accurate, and very well timed drop shots of both wings.

There is more to winning than beating your opponent. You must have the will of a warrior. Nadal has the will of the warrior. Federer, though, has the will of a housewife or, at best, a schoolmarm.

In 05 and 06 he had alot close matches but was always just too good mentally, more than anything. In the last two years he has just gone so far beyond everybody on clay, maybe ever. That's why he always wins.

Federer should have beaten him in Rome and he's bagelled him before
:silly:
That win in Hamburg for Roger, was about as legitimate as the the win Ferrero had in Rome.

There was a fairly recent thread on this, I can't remember who started it...I think it was Elessar, apologies if I'm wrong :hatoff:

some threads are total waste like the one about "Fed`s physique". what a waste.

only way to beat Nadal on clay is when Nadal is in fatigue or has a very very very nasty blister on his foot.

He improves on clay year after year. When you think it is not possible to play better on this surface, next year he is even better. On the other side I think that his major opponent on this surface for past few years (Federer) reached his maximum on clay at RG 2007.
So, I think Rafa will remain unbeaten on RG for next few years (if he avoids injury). He may lost on "smaller" tournaments like this year from Ferrero, due to lack of rest, motivation or small injuries, but when it comes to big sceene, he is unbeatable.

- fittest on tour
- strongest on tour
- fastest or 2nd fastest on tour
- unmatched clay court movement
- hits the ball with a huge margin for error (net clearance)
- great understanding of the court dimensions
- clean line shots on a regular basis
- great anticipation (rarely wrong footed)
- heavy lefty topspin (wears opponents faster since majority are righties)

and you can say patience and will too but they aren't unique for him, I guess everyone knows the list already but oh well

also I think Nadal has the most underrated backhand in the game.

Nadal's backhand is schizophrenic. There are times such as on hardcourts earlier this year when it seems like his backhand is a totally ineffectual loopy piece of nonsense and a total liability. Then on clay and grass it's basically a second forehand which never misses, generates amazing pace cross court and is perfectly controlled. It's all in how he applies himself in my opinion.

I know why Nadal is so good on clay - but everyone can be beaten. It's just amazing that no one in the world can step up and defeat Nadal.

I think Federer even thou he has a massive mental block agist Nadal from what I saw in Mc and Hamberg had a very good tatic of useing the drop shot almost as a approch shot. Also he use the angles. And went round Nadal and changed pace on the ball a lot.

I dont think Federer will ever beat Nadal on clay now. But I do think thoses are the tatic to beat him on clay.

Nadal's backhand this year against Davydenko at Miami (I think) was unbelievable, it was shitty. Then on clay it's fantastic.
