Safin is like "Safir" (sapphire)... expensive and useless.

gonzalez owns Safin. ;)

karlovic up next, could go either way...

ivo won 6-3 7-6 in thier match up in queens three years ago.(where gonzalez was the only player to break him there i think.)
Yes it is going to be interesting since they got weak backhands and rely on serve and forehands.

So clever :yeah: It must have taken you a whole day to think of this. At least it's a good thing that Safin doesn't care so much what "useful" people like you think of him.

I'm a dentist so I can tell you that sapphires are used in dentistry as part of scanners for some kind of crowns and veneers treatments. The tip of the scanner (the one that read the preparation) is of sapphire ;)

Gonzalez enjoys playing Safin, now comes the battle of the slice backhands against Ivo.

It was 6-3 7-6(4) ;)

gonzo hates to play against big servers so this will be a very difficult match

Safin didn't even earn a single BP in the entire match. His best chance was 3rd game of the 2nd set, 0-30 up. He failed to return two 2nd serves and completely missed a BH at 40-30. After that it was obvious how hopeless he was. It was no surprise when he got furious with himself.

It's such a shame because it was great to see him serving and volleying so much and even chipping and charging. He knew he couldn't win from the baseine so he did try to play a lot at the net. If it weren't for that he probably would have lost much faster. :o

It's obviously turned into a hopeless match-up for Marat. Gonzalez just slices and dices as much as he can, especially on the important points where he even slices his FH. He wouldn't do this nearly as much against any other opponent.
