62 62 vs bjorkman, even if he is 36 is a good result imo.

I'm always nervous when Rafa makes the transition to grass, but there was no need to be today. He handled that with relative ease. It wasn't just Bjorkman making errors, although he did make a few too many, but Rafa just played very well. He was aggressive when he needed to be, shortening that backswing when he needed to, standing closer to the baseline, etc. All in all, a good opening match on grass (in singles, anyway). He doesn't come to Queens for the trophy as much as he comes for a couple good grass matches, and he's doing a good job so far.

Never in doubt.
If Rafa keeps the momentum and his form for few weeks more, I think that he will win Wimbledon.

Great job from Rafa

better start than last year. he made a short work of everybody at Roland Garros and that helps. at least he didnt arrive somewhat spent.

i am not expecting much here. 2-3 more matches on grass would be nice before going to Wimby. he doesnt have to kill himself to try to win this.

remember he is playing doubles as well.

remember he is playing doubles as well.

Not anymore, he lost yesterday.

However, at 19:00 he was watching soccer and at 3:00AM he was watching the Lakers, then a short nap and back to the court to destroy good granpa Jonas.

yes, Rafa certainly looks fresher this year.
love his more agressive attitude and keeping the points short...this will certainly do him good not only for Wimbly but the rest of the season.

I saw most of the first set and Nadal looked quite comfortable on grass. He was quite aggressive on returns:eek:. Good showing. But will probably lose in QFs.

This is what I was thinking after seeing him play his last 3 matches in RG. I'm not sure it's about clay anymore, Djokovic was running from side to side, so was Almagro and Roger, he was inside the court, and alternating topspin with slice, and evan flat, quick shots.

It's great to watch Rafa on any surface, but on clay and grass his ball striking seems to be more spectacular :worship: I thought that Jonas would win a few more games, but hopefully he has a good grass season anyway :)

Good first match on grass for Nadal, dictated play nicely when he got the chance to. Bjorkman didn't play badly he made a few too many errors though, but also a couple of nice volleys at the net

Only saw bits of the match but Rafa seemed to be playing well.

I like watching him on grass, with all the baseline prowess he has I forget that he's capable of more stylish, varied play. Great to watch how he approached the grass game.

Yes, and he made it look so easy against a tough opponent (who made a few errors but also played some very nice points). Pure class!

his prayers will be answered. Clay Monster has undergone a major metamorphosis:

he is now Clay Monster the "high Priest of death". His Royal Vamosity wasnt happy with being called just called the Clay Monster.

credit: "high priest of death" was first used by another poster here. i refuse to take credit for it. i invented the terms "Clay Monster" and "his royal vamosity".

Bjorkman still on the tour? how much atp pension points does he have now?

He goes to Halle hoping to draw Haas and getting a walkover.

Andrew Castle showed complete disrespect towards Bjorkman during commentary and in the pre-match interview.

"Jonas, you're too old for this. Still enjoying it?"

During match, Nadal 4-1 up first set: "Let me get a word in about Bjorkman before he loses this match". Him and Rusedski kissed Nadal's ass for the whole match.

Good performance from Nadal. Thought he might be a little rusty, but looks to have found his feet on grass already. The forehand was getting plenty of pop.

Andrew Castle is a clown who did fuck all in his tennis career- Bjorkman at 36 is still several standards above Castle's best.

As for Nadal, I saw the first set and he was dictating the points far more than he does on clay, as he doesn't need to on clay. Definitely a contender for the title, and the way Ginepri was schooling Roddick first set suggests to me that he will eat Duck for breakfast from the back of the court if they meet.

Alas they both have tricky hurdles to overcome first, especially Roddick (Murray lying in wait)

I think Nadal's "slump" in the second half of last year and early this year was much due to the tough loss in the Wimbly finals...that really shook his confidence and mostly likely brought about the mental fatigue too...
however, I think Nadal is truly gaining back all that confidence (and I think this is when Nadal is at his most lethal)...winning the two clay Masters and ESPECIALLY RG rebuild his self-belief...
so loving his BH slices and flatter strokes...will surely up his edge in Wimbly and the Hard Courts
BTW, it seems that Nadal is trying out more lobs now-a-days...true?
