Hopefully Nico will be there. :yeah:

You might want to go anyway. I went to a challenger when I was vacationing in California, and it was nice to watch the young players who might be higher up someday. And much more relaxed than a regular tournament.

Nico should probably takes doubles a bit more seriously - the scoreline shows that they didn't try very hard - but given his lack of success in singles, he might need those pay checks for doubles wins.

Very poor showing... :(

in doubles there are 2 players and Dabul played his single match not a long time before (maybe 1h30 before)and he's also in Wimbly MD ;)so...

Then maybe he should pick his doubles partners more carefully. ;)

I'm serious when I say that doubles may be his future. And no, I'm not being mean - just practical. He might want to put some thought into selecting a partner who he can team up with over and over again. He's a very good doubles player, and I think can be successful.

Nico's ranking in doubles in not that good (I think he's 180 or something like that)...Dabul is #100 in doubles so I think it's not Nico who decides...Having Dabul as a partner was a good choice anyway ;)

Yes I think they tanked because of it. ;)

That's what I think too ;)

Lovely - you aren't understanding what I am saying. ;) I know Nico's doubles ranking sucks. He rarely plays now. But he's career in singles is obviously nearing an end. So if he wants to continue playing, he might consider working on his doubles ranking. In order to do so, he might want to select a player who is willing to repeatedly team up with him so they can try to move up in the doubles world. Many former singles player choose this route when they realize that they can't win singles as much anymore. I don't think Nico would admit that he's at that point now, but I think he's going to have to face the reality of the situation soon.

And he did tank, and that's why I said he shouldn't tank. If he has a partner who wants to tank, then again, he should select someone who won't tank. In my opinion, if he wants to continue to play, doubles may be in the cards and he needs to focus on doubles play more.

He can't select. His ranking doesn't allow him to "select" someone...Players with higher ranking have to agree to play with him ... I think he doesn't have choice because of his ranking...He always has to find someone with higher rank to enter any doubles MD... And it's not easy to play with the same partner in each tournament because there are always 3or 4 challengers each week and each player has his own schedule...

And I don't think that Dabul knew they would reach the semis when they began the tournament ;) And it's just a Challenger so it's not that important if they tanked ;)

NicoFan
06-21-2008, 03:20 PM
That's exactly the problem....just because it's a challenger, doesn't mean that it's not important. His ranking sucks - in both singles and doubles. He needs all the points he can get - even lowly challenger points.

I'm sure he wouldn't have problems getting a higher ranked doubles player - if they knew he would take it seriously. The problem is he doesn't take it seriously - it's only doubles after all  - he tanks when he doesn't feel like playing doubles - so why would someone who takes doubles seriously want to be his partner now?

He needs to change his attitude towards doubles - and then he won't have that problem anymore. Because he's an excellent doubles player - won the gold - I doubt if he were serious that any player with brains would turn him down. ;)

Yeah, Nico should have the rep as being a good doubles players despite his current low ranking-that's how he earned his other gold medal afterall ;) He has to look and be motivated though-even at a challanger. And he has to start somewhere-because it is almost like he is starting out all over again. Obviously it is hard work and it must really suck when you've been in the top 10 and are now playing challengers but that is his reality now. That is why he really, really has to want to continue if it is going to be worth his while.

Precisely. :yeah:

And I have to say that I hate tanking. :( I don't care who it is, or what tournament it is, or what the reason is. It's wrong. It's against everything sport is about. Very disrespectful to the game as a whole, the sponsors, and the fans.

I give Nico a lot of credit for playing challengers - very proud of him for that. But he has to do more - he's got to change his attitude and the way he thinks. I know he's not Andre (there's only one Andre), but I think of the way Andre handled coming back - it's the exact opposite of what Nico is doing. Andre assembled a great team - Nico doesn't have the money to do that but he should get the best that he can. Andre worked day and night - up even on New Year's Day 6:00 a.m. running the hills around Las Vegas. Complete sacrifice. Nico has to have that same attitude if he wants to comeback.

And to make Kid loca here... ... Andre got a good woman by his side too to help him out. ;)

Once again in doubles you are 2...What to do if your partner wants to tank?...

NicoFan
06-21-2008, 11:03 PM
I realize that at times it is the partner who wants to tank.

I just want Nico to do everything he possible can to be successful in every match now. If he wants to comeback, he has to start thinking everything through (including doubles partners) and pick up points everywhere he can. Every loss in singles and doubles is a lost opportunity for much needed points. He has to treat his career with care right now.

you're not making me loca NF, like you said, there's only one Andre so that's why I know that the finding a good woman part won't apply for Nico as long with other things that Andre did to come back to the top. And well not to be pesimistic, just realistic, but actually is not like we could be that proud of Nico playing challengers, unfortunatly with his actual ranking it's the only choice that he has :o ... and all this subject it's the same thing that we have discussed over and over again, when it's not doubles, it's because it's only a challenger and it's because it's only an exhibition, all excuses after all, like NF said, tanking is disrespectfull not only for the sport, for the fans, for the tournament and for everything that didn't come to my mind right now :p

I never said tanking is a good thing but I said that it's not fair to blame Nico for that !!! And I can understand they tanked ( BUT that doesn't mean I agree )...Being in Wimbly MD is more important than a semis in doubles in a Challenger...

NicoFan

Lovely - no one is blaming Nico for this latest lost. We're just saying that he has to take care of his career better. Given his ranking, I think that's good advice.

Others may have leeway to tank, but right now, he does not.

I feel as if I am writing in Greek. :rolls: AGAIN, NO ONE IS BLAMING NICO FOR THE LATEST TANK!!!!! It's the PATTERN that we are talking about. It's happened before. AND WE WANT NICO TO TAKE MORE CARE IN THE FUTURE OVER HIS CAREER!!!!!!!!!!!! We feel that he has no choice anymore but to do that.
