A big deal is being made about the 0-6 set Feds suffered in the RG finals so I decided to take a look at all of Fed's set scores throughout his reign as #1. The numbers are amazing.

140 or 14% of ALL sets played have ended in a bagel or breadstick in favor of Federer.

17% of all sets won have ended in a bagel or breadstick in favorFederer.

In TB's, he's 124-46 which is phenomenal. He's 190-69 in close sets.

He has won almost as many 0 and 1 sets as total sets lost.

Wow... You really know Fed. There is no doubt about Fed's talent and domination. It is just sad always having to read that Roger was dominating because his opponents had already given up before they stepped on to court. On the other hand, Nadal was just too good for any players. I am ok with Rafa too. But Medias are just so unfair. No one seems to remember Rafa's bagels nowadays.

Yup. It's always, "What have you done for me lately?" Nadal's scores against Nalbandian X 2, Federer, Youz, Tsonga, Davy are all forgotten.

Looking at it another way, Fed has won at least 6 games in 866 out of 984 sets played while #1. That's 88% of all sets played which is truly remarkable.

Those stats are truly remarkable
Those close sets and TB's record is really really good.
And the % of sets won underlines his dominance..
Thanks NYCtennisfan :wavey: Great stuff as always.

Thanks for ths stats Alex!

By the by, For comparision of Bakery Products in relation to the GOAT debate Sampras was bagelled 10 times and received 46 breadsticks in contrast to Rogers 4 and 31(?). So Roger's still way ahead on that account, hopefully we won't have to see too many binaries next to his losses in the future. :)

It's the best stretch of 1000 sets (soon) of anyone along with early-mid 70's Connors (split tour), Lendl, and Borg. He wins 6 games in 9 out of every 10 sets in the highly competitive TMS era. That's just astonishing.

Amazing....Simply amazing

Winning 6 games in 9 out of every 10 sets no matter the surface is just beyond anything that I thought we would see in the TMS era.

The years Fed has put together since being #1 are the best in history by far and I don't know how anyone can even think about topping them. He set such high standards for himself that when he drops a little (which has to happen to everyone especially considering his age) people think its the end of the world.

Please allow me to be the nitpicker of this thread!

You forgot the 5th set against Tipsarevic at this years Australian Open: 10-8.
Also, Federer lost 9-7 to Safin in the seimifinals of the 2005 AO.

Has Federer played more 5th sets that went beyond 6-6 at slams? These are the only ones I recall.

Great stats, btw!

I forgot about those! I stopped counting at 6-7 sets. :o I'll update the stats after Wimbledon.

BTW, I believe that Federer played his 1000th set as the #1 against Soderling yesterday.

:p

Do you come up with these stats manually btw? Or do you have a good database and a knack for SQL?

My guess would be the former.
