No matter how much big talk and hot air Roger blows about beating Rafa at Roland Garros, he seems to be getting further and further away from him on clay. He's supposed to be the second best clay court player but Rafa made him look worse than a chump. He took him to school, beat him up, rubbed his face in the mud, gave him a wedgie and then shoved him in the gym locker. Total domination.

That was unreal to watch. Rafa is positively absurd. Even Nole won more games than Roger did today. Hell, even Andy won more games when Roger annhiliated him at the Aussie Open last year. I would put Rafa's performance on that same level Roger showed at the AO, it was numinous and out of this world sublime.

It was just one of those days, a match for Roger to forget and for Rafa to remember.

Definitely agree. It seemed like one of three things happened when Fed approached:

(1) Rafa passed Fed.
(2) Rafa lobbed over Fed.
(3) Fed's volley found the net.

But it's not like Fed was holding his own in the back of the court. There weren't too many instances where I thought Fed should have come up but he failed to do so.

All i can say is Fed has nothing to be ashamed up, he got to the final and truthfully the score doesnt matter, all that matters is he lost to be the best clay court player in the world and the beatdown was expected...hell nadal was hitting winners from all over the place....Nadal deserves this trophy...Fed, i love you, i always will, and nadal, this was a great match from you....

It's like previous years for Nadal...amazing on clay...good on grass (so far)...average during HC season. Unfortunately for him, being amazing only on clay will not get him that no.1 spot. Even if he does goe to no.1 he won't stay there for very long. To be no.1 you have to be all cour player nowadays, which Nadal is not.

That's why he lost the match so quickly, after being broken in that 1st set for the second time, he started not thinking clearly, he was rushed on everything. And why oh why play everyball on Nadal's backhand ?? His own backhand was quite pathetic. He's not getting in position very quickly, actually it's getting worse and worse each year against Nadal at least. Too much topspin, not enough depth...

After that Nole easily kept his service and always gave Rafa a hard time keeping his, broke him twice and got really near another, having a set point. if federer gets a beatdown like this on grass or chokes like pete when he was 2-0 on corretja, then go ahead and criticize.

His performance was shameful for a nr.1 of the world, no fighting spirit at all, even if the best Federer wouldn't have won against this Nadal, but there are ways and ways to loose a match, this surely wan't an appropriate one for a player like Federer. We will see how he reacts in Wimbledon, but after this performance I am really doubtful we will see Federer winning again on the english grass this year, unless he suddenly finds again his magic tennis, whose sign we saw in maybe one game today.

I think you're being too harsh. Fed isn't the most demonstrative player out there. He wins with such incredible ease most of the time and he rarely shows unbridled emotion. He is a champion and, although I'm sure he had his doubts coming into today's match, he really did try. His game plan was suspect, though.

Anyone criticizing Fed is retarded. You could see the drastic change in strategy in his game. He tried to come to net as much as possible, he went for winners to avoid long backhand rallies, and basically did everything in his power to prevent the same thing happening as has happened the past 3 years. Obviously, the strategy didn't work because Fed's 1st serve was off today, and Nadal was playing amazing. But after 3 tries already, you can't blame him for trying.

But still... 4 games... he won less games off Rafa than Safina won off Ivanovic :o

C'mon people, it's called matchups. Fed's worst matchup on any surface is Nadal, and on Clay it's amplified 10 times. From the back court Fed can win 1 set, maybe 2 sets if he plays amazing. Today he learned a serve and volley game will win him no sets. Either way he can't win. His best hope is for Djokovic to take out Nadal next year or have Nadal be injured.

Shame Federer played bloody awful, but even on a good day he wouldn't have stood a chance. I hope he can recover from this.

I still think that it was right to think that Federer has improved, and in fact it was logical to think he had a better chance. Being so close in Hamburg and Monte Carlo.

But it's up to Roger to bring the improvement and mindset on the court, but obviously he didn't.
Fed was close to beat Nadal on clay even in previous years. I didn't see any difference or improvements this year.

Rafa's a great champion and I have so much respect for the way he handles himself, both in victory and defeat. I think even he was surprised how easy the match went; no resistance at all from Federer.

Hopefully Federer can repay the favor at Wimbledon.

Rafa was very classy in the end. He continues to impress me with his graciousness. No over the top celebrations.

I'm a big fan of Federer and not so much a fan of Rafa but I have to say Federer's attitude today was extremely poor and Rafa was professional in every single aspect. Fed needs to get back a little bit of the passion he had as a youngster. Sure he was gracious in defeat but I kept expecting him to fight during the match and it NEVER happened. Jesus man, break a racket, have a shout, hit a winner and scream to the heavens....SOMETHING!!!! ANYTHING!!!!!.....I dont understand it....
