Samuel Groth is on fire from the win against the Tipster in Qualis. Nice draw for him, he's a good chance of winning against Jamie Baker. Groth in 3 sets.

However, Guccione is a slim chance of winning against Monfils who has just recently reached the semi final of the French Open. If Guccione plays his A-game with consitent serving throughout the match, the pressure should build up against Monfils. However, Monfils in 3 sets.

Guccione today lost to someone ranked just inside the top 300, in straight sets no less...

Is this guy really what we had hoped he would be?
He was hoping to be top 50 by the end of this year, at this rate, he will do well to stay top 100 :o

Sam Groth is definitely one to keep an eye on, seems like the AIS is doing wonders with him :)
Also, Brydan Klein, slowly but surely creeping up the rankings, he will be top 300 soon.

Hopefully he or Groth get the US Open wildcard

Carsten Ball is on fire in the USA. I hope he can beat Kim and get to the final of the 75K in Aptos. This for me is enough to give him the nod for the wc, just edging him over Groth. Those were sucky losses for Smeets and Groth in the quarter finals in GB.

Jaymon is a blast from the past. He qualified then lost first round MD to another qualifier. One of the guys he beat in the quallies was 50 years old if you can believe the bio. Wonder if he is thinking of playing again or just a one off. He was pretty good way back. Beat Agassi once I think but I could be wrong. :D

Juanid's loss was slightly disappointing although Sousa seems to be a good enough player. What was disappointing though was him and Marx going out in the first round of doubles.

Gooch has serious problems it seems but Looch is going along alright with a nice win against De Chaunac and the next match against Darcis will be a tough one.

The Teneriffe Challenger had a whole heap of Aussies but only two remain. Smeets has a winnable match against the higher ranked Navarro and hopefully Ebden can do something against Lammer after doing a good job to qualify. MM's loss was encouraging showing that he can hold his own in Europe albeit on Hardcourts but the same can't be said for Klein. At least he won a set though.

At the futures level, Carsten is once again playing them for some reason. I wish he would go to Europe. Hopefully Millman can get a few wins and it will be interesting to see if Kelly can progress any further against the Cypriot Davis Cup player. Should be interesting as well to see how Hensel performs against Niemeyer. Hopefully he, Roshan and Hubble don't get affected by the swine flu or any measures put in place such as closing the borders if they do it.

Nice report. The bloke MM lost too is good and he qualified for the Aussie Open. Mm battled him for 2 plus hours. I agree with your comments re Guccione. What is going on there??

Lindahl needs to show commitment and buckle down. Dayne Kelly impresses me.......hope he can go much further!

Promising signs for Luczak against Darcis. In the third set he had served so well until the final game. And then apparently he made a vollying error and a net touch went against him. Hopefully he can build on this and get somewhere back near the form he was at prior to his injury. His ranking is now at a dangerous 211.

Smeets was disappointing against Navarro. Although Navarro is ranked at 89, I feel Smeets should have won this game. Prior to this tournament Navarro had been on a 12 match losing streak if you discount the win by retirement he had so this was a huge opportunity for Smeets to get a win over a top 100 player and he blew it. Ebden did alright to lose in two close sets to Lammer . The second set went to 9 and provbably could have gone anyway.

Good to see Millman consistently racking up wins on the clay futures circuit although his next match will be a tough one for him to win. Surprising win for Lemke to get through to the QF although he too has a difficult challenge in the next round.

Still nothing on Hensel. Ball and Kelly did not play last night.

James Lemke is into the final of a US Futures Tournament. Has put together some good results in the second half of this year on the futures tour with two semis in German Clay Futures and three QF appearances. Also took Simon Stadler to a third set tiebreaker last week in challenger qualifying. Turns 20 next january so perhaps he might be able to develop into a player capable of holding his own on the challenger tour.

Lemke defeated the number 1 seed Conor Niland in the final and is now into the semis of another US Futures tournament with wins over the promising Domijan and third seed Sitak. Great form from him and plays Bocko who he beat last week, for a place in the Final.
