Sorry, no report today, it's late here and adee-gee's brilliant report pretty much covered everything I would have said anyway. :) I'll probably be reporting on things later in the week though, when I go back or at least giving details.

GOOD NEWS! This photobucket account has NO PASSWORD. So feel free to look..
http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn64/pfboa/2008%20Queens%20Qualies%20day%20one-%20Sat%207th%20June/?start=all

Sorry about having to use crummy Photobucket, I just don't have the time to resize them all to post here. Maybe I'll post a selection here on MTF later in the week, as time dictates my resizing.

No time to list players either; I saw a LOT of people anyway, hope you enjoy the pics and I'll use this thread to report back later in the week. :wavey:

edit: added very small sample pics just to give you an idea what to expect.
edit2: little reports and pics now added from Mon to Thurs.
edit3-16/06: added pics from Sunday's finals.

Merci Jenny!

:secret: Could you please tell PHM that I will sue him if I have a heart attack during his match? :p

Sorry that I'm updating all in one go...have been pretty busy.
My reporting isn't full or about all matches I saw- I have a goldfish-like memory- so I'm just going to go on some notes I already made earlier in the week...I realise most of this is now dated/useless information but oh well.

Monday

Matches/practise etc:
Troicki/Sela- was impressed with Troicki overall although Sela did blow early break leads in both sets and many times looked superior on the BH side especially and volleyed well. Alas, he made too many UEs at crucial moments eg. in the 2nd set once had 0-40 on Troicki's serve and then made 3 UEs, 2 into the net.
Lee/Verdasco- good quality match start with Nando hitting great FHs (especially 1 particular FH dtl). Lee was volleying well and playinga nice all court game. 4-3 0-40 to Lee, he had a nasty fall and hut his left knee. He tried to continue after the injury but he couldn't move so had to try and hit winners off Nando's serve, thus losing the next 5 points easily, Nando held and Lee retired. Wish him well.
Vliegen/Gulbis- wasn't a particularly high quality match, Gulbis just did enough for the win although both did have strong serving performances. Gulbis won by being stronger from the back of the court and being patient; waiting for Vliegen's errant groundstrokes to come.
Gasquet/Mahut vs Murray/Vallverdu- Like Vallverdu, he has a game well suited to doubles and was probably the best player on the court. Murray fluffed a few easy volleys but did serve quite well. Gasquet and Mahut both played well too, it was just a couple of stupid errors that cost them in the Match TB, 1 missed FH volley by Gasquet into the net and 1 long makeable FH from Mahut.
- Mahut wearing his French flag shirt on the practise courts. Allez!
- The fact that no matter when I go near the practise courts, I always find Verdasco (as long as he's not playing a match naturally!).
Quotes of the day
In the queue to get in:
"Which court have you got tickets for?"
"Ooh, I've got Court 1 but I've no idea who's playing there. It shoudl be a surprise."- Middle aged woman (I'm sure she probably had no idea when she saw who was playing either)

"I quite like this Mr Troicki; let's cheer for him!" Enthusiastic woman late 30s, sitting next to me at Troicki/Sela.
"(to me)So how well do you do know Troicki?!! (because I was cheering for him)"- Older woman to my other side.
(me)"Intimately!" She didn't ask anyone questions after that.

During Murray/Vallverdu vs Gasquet/Mahut;
Australian guy and woman, youngish.
guy: "I think that this Gasquet could get to be top 20"
(about a point later)
guy: "I think this Gasquet might even make top 10"
me: (audibly but without turning round) "He ALREADY is top 10."
(sorry about these quotes, I know I'm overly harsh to Queens visitors)

Tuesday

Anderson/Isner- Got in as Isner was serving for the match. Isner hits 4 service winners to win the match, 3 of which are aces. I'm pretty sure that sums up what happened in the whole match, judging by Anderson's frustrated face. I got a laugh out of the matching Nike outfits though.

Mathieu/Cilic- Dramatic for me as Paulo's fan.
Beautiful FH volley from Paulo- yes, PHM can volley (sometimes :p)
Paulo had trainer and falls and massages but came back to serve for match.
Paulo serves for match- f***, s*** and the rest all game- errant backhands, LONG, game goes, racket goes. Vamos Paulo.
Sometime in the 2nd set called himself and idiot/stupid amongst other stuff, he was pretty ranty all match really.
Cilic thought a Paulo serve was out at 5-5 30 all so he rants at the umpire and from then on has lost the plot UEs, endless. So Paulo came through but wasn't pretty to say the least.

Ancic/Verdasco- quality match with some great groundstrokes. Mario served well and was a little bit more consistent off the ground, which was the key. I still wish Mario would come to the net more often. Shame this was a 2nd rounder, both probably deserved to get further. Seems like Fernando's endless practise sessions were alas not enough to save him.

Mathieu/Safin vs Hanley/Perry- (I didn't see the 1st set) Simple truth is Hanley and Perry can actually play doubles- for a start it helps if you can/are willing to actually play in the forecourt(both Paulo and Marat stayed back on almost every serve). Mind you when they were in the forecourt, there were some pretty awful volleys- both kept hitting them short. Marat missed one right at the start of the Match TB, resulting in the net getting massacred. Paulo tried to focus him, saying "Allez, Allez" which was quite funny after Marat's net tirade. These forecourt errors probably cost them the match because in teh part I saw they were superior to Hanley and Perry from the baseline and Marat also hit some great BH return winners.

Quote of day
(women unknown description, on phone)
"We're watching Cilic/Mathieu but we're sad because Cilic is too young for any of our daughters. He's only 19."

Wednesday

This is when the lame reports stop, for some reason I can't find anymore notes but here are the pictures: http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn64/pfboa/2008%20Queens%20Day%203-Wednesday%2011th%20June/?start=all

Thursday

pictures here: http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn64/pfboa/2008%20Queens%20Day%204-%20Thursday%2012th%20June/?start=all
include Mathieu/Gulbis/Murray/Nishikori/Nadal/Fish/Roddick/Tipsarevice/Djokovic etc..

Quotes from Thursday:
"Where is the nearest place I can get a glass of Pimms?"
"Is that Andy Murray practising? Oh yes darling, it is him, look darling it's Andy Murray practising." The practise was Gulbis/Mathieu, which her husband politely let her know eventually (well he told her it wasn't Murray anyway). She was really excited too and then she rapidly lost interest, when she realised it wasn't Murray after all.

I hope some of you enjoy this post but it's ok if you don't, I'm posting it for my own benefit too to collate my memories together (well the more interesting private stuff I won't share) but the main memories.
I'm going to the final tomorrow, so I will make a final update about that (with pictures, of course) hopefully.

Thanks a lot for your report and the photos (that I'm still busy going through).:wavey:

Your report inspired me to pack a pen and paper instead of a camera next time I go to a tournament - people's quotes are indeed priceless sometimes. :D Well, maybe the tourney after the next - my French isn't good enough...:tape:

P.S.: OMG, poor Paul Hanley! He has a scary resemblance with Tony Blair on this one...:haha:

Davis, yes he does look rather like Blair in that picture. It's a bit scary!

OK, I'm not going to write a report on the final since most people saw it but I do have pictures of it here: http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn64/pfboa/2008%20Queens%20Final-%20Sunday%2015th%20June/?start=all

and because people seem to like the quotes from people at Queens, I have some to share from last year's tournament:

people on Clement:
Man- "I've never heard of him before."
Woman- "Yes, there are a lot of new players around at the moment.."
Man- "and French!"
Woman-"He looks so young and fresh!!"(fresh was emphasised :aplot:)

on Grosjean:

"Where's he from? Spain?"
"I don't know but he's such a funny little man next to the other guy. He's a proper man."(the "proper" man was Safin btw)

on Safin:

"What's he doing after this? (doubles match with Bogdanovic) because I could use a plumber to plug my holes!"
"Oh my, he isn't very happy." (you have to imagine this one in a typical Queens corporate voice, complete with Pimms fuelled tipsiness/disapproval for that OAF Safin)
"Doesn't he live in France? Monaco? Wannabe Frenchman."
"We'd rather the real Frenchman (Grosjean- actually this quote comes from the same person who thought he was Spanish at first) won than the Psuedo-Frenchman" (Safin!).

on Bogdanovic:
"Oh he's British? Well that explains it!"
Later..."Oh, he's actually quite good..."

Novak/Umpire:
Umpire (to crowd)- "Sit down, players are ready for you."
Novak- "We're ready for them?!!!"
(to crowd)- "Yes, sit down we're ready for you."

Tursunov:
"Is this how we do things in London?"
"Why do we need linesmen? We may as well just have you!" (the umpire)

Anyway, enjoy! :)
