horna cuevas show how 'good' the 'top' doubles players really are... i think rogier wassen for example should thank the whole top 200 atp that they are not taking doubles seriously

Oh my... somehow I'm not surprised since they're coached by Daniel Orsanic :o. Not sure if Horna is still with him, they swap coaches like clubbers swap partners in Soho.

Great match LUCHO and PABLO!

HORNA is the second Peruvian to win a Grand Slam title.
The great Alex OLMEDO won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 1959...

I hope to see this team winning other tournaments, although they both repeat
and repeat that Singles is their only priority...

Horna is being coached by Mastelli, has been for a while. Orsanic is Cuevas' coach, as he is no longer working with Acasuso.

I think that Horna and Cuevas win is one of the biggest surprises in the GS in the last few years.
Nobody ever thought of them even coming in the semis.

Thank you. I knew about Orsa being with Cuevas and thought maybe he was back to Horna too, since Cuevas and Horna played this doubles together.

Great success for Peru but like someone already mentioned it's not the first Peruvian win, while Uruguay didn't have such a success since their footie team beat Brazil @ Maracana in 1950 lol.

Very impressive for them, winning the title here by knocking out the top-2 seeded teams. I am very glad for Lucho, I am sure that they didn't take doubles too seriously in the beginning but went for it and took down the tile here.

This result makes me think that traditional favourites in the Olympics like US, France, Austria will find it hard to go all the way, right now I like the chances of pairs like Ljubicic-Ancic, Berdych-Stepanek, Djokovic-Zimonjic.

I wouold say the Brian brother's last 6 months or so have been more suprising, some big uncharastic losses during that stretch aswell!!

Zimonjic seems to have stagefright in finals. He played his mixed doubles match with Srebotnik half-heartedly and was even then in his mind in the mens doubles finals. He admitted so in the award ceremony speech. Serves him right...

Hahahahahahaha, two guys entered this for bit of fun and some cash and they came up with the title.

The heavy conditions helped him, but great result taking out Clement/Llodra, the Bryans and thumping Zimonjic/Nestor.

Time to improve on the singles court for Horna and Cuevas.

Cuevas-Horna beat Nestor-Zimonjic for men's French Open doubles title

The Associated Press
Sunday, June 8, 2008

PARIS: Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay and Luis Horna of Peru won the French Open men's doubles title Saturday, making them the first all-South American duo to become Grand Slam champions in the 40-year Open era.

The unseeded Cuevas and Horna beat No. 2-seeded Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

Neither Cuevas or Horna had won a major title. They played only one previous tournament together, and that was on the challenger circuit.

"Winning a Grand Slam in doubles is a wonderful experience," Horna said. "The French Open for us South American players is the most important tournament of the year."

"We were not expecting to go that far," Cuevas said.

They upset the top-seeded team, American twins Bob and Mike Bryan, in the quarterfinals.

In the final, they raced to a 4-0 lead and held every service game.

"Today was one of these days you feel on the court like everything is going slow and you have time to think and make the right decisions to get the points," Horna said.

"I don't think right now in this moment we're going to realize how huge this is. Maybe in a couple of weeks or couple of months or couple of years. Someday we will figure it out."

Ecuador's Andres Gomez, who won the singles title at the French Open in 1990, presented the trophy to Horna and Cuevas.

"Gomez has been like an idol for us Peruvians," Horna said. "To have a trophy from him is, I think, one of the important moments in my professional career."

Another match showing doubles tennis is at a similar level to the WTA. No wonder Murray wants to play singles.
