RN vs ND: what happened at 2-0 sets and 3-0 games up?

Nadal was demolishing Djokovic up to this point of the match. Djokovic looked lost and in despair. What happened to Nadal after this point? I know Djokovic picked up his game and started attacking more, but Nadal stopped going for winners and became too passive...

The match could have finished at 6-4, 6-2, 6-0/2. Did Nadal loosen up?

I borrowed my friend's calculator and jinxed Nadal. He dominated in the tie-break as I returned the calculator.

:haha:

Nole picked up his game and started trying again! Nadal was still playing good!

i think nadal thought novak would just give in, but novak started getting much better, and got more confident, too bad, that match could have been more interesting had novak played like that from the start...
hopefully there will be a rematch in the wimbledon semis and novak can take rafa down

Nadal didn't want to humiliate Djokovic so he let him get into the game to save him from total embarrassment. Then Djokovic got too greedy and wanted the set, but Nadal said "hey, wait a minute friend, I gave you a finger, and you want entire arm" so he beat him in tie break easily.

Nadal was expecting Nole to retire on whatever excuse at any moment. It was late in the set when he realized that, surprisingly, that wasn't going to happen, so he pressed the gas pedal again in the tiebreak and finished it off.

I agree with the last post. Nadal was just expecting the usual pansy retirement.

There is a match result thread where this question could be asked.

Nadal wanted to give the French value for money.

As far as I could see, it was a combination of Nadal losing depth in his shots and Djokovic gaining confidence because he could hit winners off them.

Excellent observation!

I think you are right. It was exactly that. Short placement was the tactic that 'harmed' him – I was just surprised that he resorted to that tactic in the middle of an outstanding performance

Rafa's intensity droped a bit, he played one bad game and let Djokovic break back. Then Novak started playing better and he started beleiving he could come back, the crowd gave him support, Rafa was too pasive at that moment. But in the end he saved set point and won the tie break.
