I have a question or an idea

I am watching the match between Nadal and Djoke. I see Nadal standing soo behind to return the first serve that he is almost standing close to the line umpires.

why cant these guys (Djoke and Fed) serve an underarm first serve like a drop serve and get a point?? that will also keep Nadal guessing and he wont stand that far behind which gives him an advantage to return the serves deep.

I agree its beneath the standards of a World No1 and No3 to serve underarm in a grandslam. but if it helps to keep Nadal guessing and gives you an advantage, then why not?? my idea might sound stupid to a few or most of you, but I would appreciate any answers. Thanks!

Hehe, I'd love to see it but it would have to be amazingly accurate otherwise it's an easy point for Nadal.

Besides, it's poor etiquette even at amateur level to serve underarm.

Usually you only do underarm serve when you start to get cramps in the moment you are streching (remember Chang vs Lendl).

Because Djoker and Fed would get lynched by the French crowd...:p

Bad etiquette, just hit some amazing drop shots of the return of serve.

Federer has way too much dignity to try this. Djokovic, although irreverent at times, wouldn't do this either because he'd rather win on his own terms. It would be hilarious to watch, though.

Yes it was hilarious but it was certainly the final nail in her coffin in terms of the crowd rallying against her. That remains one of my all time favorite women's matches to watch.

I miss Hingis. :hearts:

You have just partly answered your question...Nadal can return the serves deep....

Back in the days when women's tennis wasn't an endless repeating gruntfest of error, error, error, winner, error, error, error, error, error.
