He is back...lol.. Impressive form from Bellucci, playing Berdych at his Home Challenger in Czech. Although it is not berdych's favorite surface.

Indeed a very good result from Bellucci! Unfortunate that he had to draw Nadal in the first round of RG otherwise he would have been sure to win a few rounds! Well, let's see how he does on grass!

Impressive stuff from Bellucci, this guy has a future.

Berdych was average today, could barely hit a winner except the moment when he was fighting to get back into 1st set when Bellucci was serving for it. He didn't really look like he wanted to be there, was making ridiculous errors and the serve also wasn't perfect. Shame to lose like this in front of a home crowd.

berdych better pick it up, he has a lot of points to defend in the upcoming weeks

Bellucci's first win over a top 20 player (actually top 50, but top 20 sounds better).

Berdych will have to wait at least another year to win his home event.

Bellucci looked pretty good at RG already. :hatoff:

Tomas...
You'll be doing better in Halle, I'm sure of that.

Interesting that Bellucci's incredible run of form seems to have been sparked by blowing a 2 set lead at home in Davis Cup v Giraldo

I watched this match. When he had this Lead he started feeling heavy cramps and could barely move on the court. But, you are correct after this match he really picked up his best results.

I think he has the potential to be a regular at top 40, 30. Dunno if he can be better than that.

It's a shame Bellucci wasn't drawn in another section of the draw at RG. He might have made the quarters in some sections of the draw.

Good win.

he is quite young if i am not mistaken. has a very impressive game. could be top 50 before the year ends. clay has helped him develop his ground game. that big serve never hurts either.

that's a bit OTT. quite the leap between challengers and a grand slam and he might still have some stamina issues over best of 5 sets based on what GugaF1 posted about his David Cup defeat to Giraldo

he already have two surgeries, so stamina and fitness will always be a issue for him

after wimbledon, he´s playing indy. he likes fast courts...

:rolls: Only top 40 or 30, not a chance, the guy is heading to the elite.

surgery has nothing to contribute to stamina and fitness, movement yes if it is in his lower body and stroke mechanics if it is in his upper body but i dont get your point.

Having surgery doesn't affect your engine...

He's not that young, CD. 21 I think.

I wasn't being entirely serious, maybe I should have added a :o to the post, but there were some very weak 1/8s of the draw.

He is 20 years old born in December 1987. The surgeries he had were to correct the cartilage growth on his Knee. I don't think is a serious issue because it was in 2004 when he was still at around 15 years of old, in the Jr. so his body could recover completelly from that age.

If he was concerned about his fitness, he wouldnt have played 3 Challengers in a row win them, one right before RG where he stopped in the QF, then Go trhough the RG qualy and have that good match with Nadal and now at a SF, in a very short amount of time. So It seems he is very confident with his body resistance....

it is a challenger and top 50 players rarely play for real.. anyway, big kudos for thomaz!

Good stuff- his game vs Nadal reminded me of a Puerta-kind of player.

Top 50 for sure, maybe top 30, I wonder if he can go higher than that.

Beating berdych even if it is challenger is great achievement.(Berdych is TMS winner and an ex-top ten.)

BTW why are top 20 players alowed to play in challengers.?

He was playing pretty well in that match but then got nervous and started getting cramps in the middle of the third set.

I think the turning point was when he qualified for his first ATP event in Buenos Aires in February, beating very good challenger players to qualify (Lopez, Andujar, Junqueira) and Eschauer in the main draw. He hasn't looked back since.

That's what I thought as well (wouldn't it be rather strange that if you bolt out early at a GS, you aren't allowed to enter a minor tournament?), and besides that, this is Berdych's home tournament.

FYI, top 10 players are not allowed to play challengers at all, even if they are given wildcards. Only players ranked 11 and below. So Berdych will have to make sure he's still outside the top 10 next year if he wants to play this tournament again. :p

I think he will play it as often as he can (and as often as he doesn't play RG during that time).

thank you for the info, very interesting indeed. It could explain that last year Tomas played in Prostejov, but only the DOUBLES. He was seeded 10 at FO.
