Good stuff this semi :smoke:

Very tough draw for Federer facing a bad match-up for him, he won't even have crowd support this time

Monfils' has just had a magical run, and if he doesn't let the moment get to him, his BH is much better than it was even at MC where they played last. Crowd will be with him, if Federer isn't ready it could be interesting. For the hell of it, Monfils in 5 (yeah right)

Some nice quotes from Gael before the match :haha: :haha:

Q. This is probably your greatest victory in all your career, but you're not overwhelmed with joy. You seem very calm tonight.

GAËL MONFILS: Once again, I've not reached my objective. I'm very happy I won this match. I'm very happy I'll play a semifinal on the central court, but this is not my last objective.

Q.Julien Benneteau was saying before facing federer that it was like playing Bresil in football

G.M: It's going to be very tough : I'm getting closer to my goal but it's not "game seven" since THE match is the final... I've been wired to get a "hard-on" (his words not mine :spit:) during moments like this for 21 years, so of course I'm going to be very motivated

Be very afraid Roger :rolls: :bolt:

Whilst Ferrer struggled tactically and with form Federer is far better at constructing points and he should be able to do so against Monfils. Form isn;t looking too good so maybe the Frenchman can get a set and send the crowd into raptures but more than that would be a real shock.

AO 08 semifinalists Fed, Nadal, Djoko and a French- Tsonga
RG 08 semifinalists Fed, Nadal, Djoko and a French- Monfils

Two things come to mind. First, Gasquet does have a chance to get into Wimbledon's semi this year :woohoo: And second, if parallel universe still in place, Roger should lose to Monfils :tape:

Nothing Monfils can do to hurt Federer, he can only win if Federer plays a complete stinker of a match which isn't going to happen now that Roger has played his way into the tournament.

Great chance of another final, extremely impressive considering his shaky form this year and supposed decline.

Monfils has to have a different gameplan than the one he had going against Ferru today. he will need to serve like hell and be a lot more assault minded and hope he hits his targets with regularity.

bottom line is that Monfils doesnt really stand a chance. the best he can do is take a set but i dont even see that happening.

My thoughts exactly. It has become some sort of habit for Feds to lose the first set lately and with the crowd behind Monfils + him being in the Winning Mood, it might enable him to snatch a set from Feds. But three in a row? No way.

This is how it will play out:

Fed hits 1st serve, winner, unreturnable, weak reply=easy put away, out
Fed hits kicker on the 2n serve to a monfils standing stupidly far back=easy putaway/dropshot etc.
Rallies:Fed moving him around constantly until Monfils is standing in Morocco=errors, dropshot, etc.

I seriously don't see how Monfils can win this unless the Fed that lost to fish at IW turns up.

I forgot Murray, that one too was an expected cutting. Murray scares Roger with his Ugly face and get a psychological advantage and not forgetting that he plays defense quite well a strategy known to trouble "the great one". What I am saying, that wasn't completely out of the Blue. Why, if he can get his act together he will be a Spartan in the future.

It looks like the swiss moonballer has surprised me a little bit with his stunning upset of gonzalez. but winning the semis against the precocious talent of gael monfils is one big upset too many for the transitional champ.

Its a remarkable foresight on part of the ATP to award the "emerging player of the year" to the frenchman while never bothering about the moonballing swiss. They atleast cannot be accused of lacking an eye for real talent unlike the fed worshippers on this board.

The giant killing run of the arrogant man ends today barring some untimely big occasion choke from the inexperienced youngster.
