Niki Pilic academy buddies who have had "crazy experiences" together off the court meet in an official match for the first time. Who will win? I say Djokovic but I hope Gulbis will be able to take at least a set from him.

Gulbis might get a set if he's lucky, but Djokovic's experience, mentality and solid game should get him through.

Evita, make a poll for this one :)

Answering question: Djokovic in 3. He will be too solid from baseline for Gulbis.

If Gulbis leaves his head in the locker room (not unheard of before), he'll be an easy meal for Nole. However, I don't expect that to happen, so I go with a tighter match, but eventually in Nole's favor.

It's what Novak said in his interview yesterday that they had "crazy experiences" together on and off the court.... wouldn't go into more detail than that

Crazy experiences? :aplot:
Should be Nole in 3, maybe Nole in 4 if his head isn't in the match at first.

I voted Gulbis.

For me, a Djokovic win is a surprising disappointment each time. I've been quite surprised and disappointed for the good part of a year now.

It happens when footballer dares to play tennis. Always a surprise.

too much experience on Nole side. Really cant see him losing to Gulbis. Maybe the latvian will be a hard nut to crack but in the end Nole should be the winner without a doubt.

On Topic: Gulbis didn't beat anyone serious so far, so no chance against Djokovic.

Off topic: For all Troicki fans, what is the deal with Troicki and PANTS/pants/shorts whatever. I can't figure it out.

I can't even begin to explain but it's a long story/inside joke. Even if you knew the story you wouldn't be able to figure it out. I pretty much created it and I can't even figure out how it happened. It's something that kind of took on a life of its own :tape:

But it has nothing to do with anything Viktor has ever done or said... it has to do with a crazy bunch of fans on MTF being crazy. :p

If Erno could somehow pull this off it'd be my favourite result of the whole year.

I'll be satisfied if he pushes Novak hard, and gets a set maybe.

Novak to win in 4.

This is good for tennis. Expect to see a lot of Djoko/Gulbis battles the next 5 years.

Poor dear. Life must be hard for you.

As for the match, didn't see Gulbis play this tournament, but Djoko losing or even playing an espacially tough much against him would be a huge surprise.

Have seen so little of Gulbis it's hard to judge but like what I've seen so it could be tricky for Nole. But as it's a QF his nerve and experience should tell. Doubt we'll get to see it though - both BBC and Eurosport will probably decide to give us wall-to-wall Ivanovic.

Go Ernests!:hearts: Glad to see you being "discovered" :tape: lately.

I picked Djokovic in 4 though.

I love how these quarterfinals have shaped up. Going in, all 4 matches are interesting in their way.

Way more than the quarterfinals of some recent RGs.

Novak to win in 4.

the real deal is consistency. Gulbis is not consistent enough yet. he has to learn to hit with more topspin. consistency and point construction is the name of the game on clay. its good that he can drive the ball off either wing and finish the point but you also need to be able to hit with little more topspin to stay in the rallies.

he is little bit like Blake but has a bigger game off the ground and a much bigger serve.

I voted for Gulbis simply because I hate Djokovic :p I know, I know... but this poll is hardly scientific. Besides, it's always the little guys that seem to beat Djokovic, so hopefully Gulbis can keep up his stellar performance so far.

What I like about Gulbis is the 'no fear' mentality against higher-ranked players. He's going to play freely, since he has nothing to lose. I'm looking forward to a highly competitive match. In the end, Djokovic will be too solid and experienced and will pull off the necessary win.

Djokovic said something like that he knows Gulbis very well on and off the court, and that during the trainings Gulbis often was beating him. He would like to see if Gulbis can bring that out in an official match.

I would love Ernie to get at least a set but Djoker is too strong in tight situations.
