In my opinion (and going against odds) Gael whithout any kind of doubt. Davy´s match doesn´t make me change my thinking about Ljubo.

H2h is 4-1 for Ljubo

5/2007 ATP 's-Hertogenbosch (NED) Grass Ivan Ljubicic 3-6 6-3 6-0 First
24/2006 ATP London (GBR) Grass Gael Monfils 7-6(11) 7-5 Third
10/2006 ATP Indian Wells (USA) Hard Ivan Ljubicic 6-3 6-2 Third
2/2006 ATP Kooyong (AUS) Hard Ivan Ljubicic 6-3 6-1 First
40/2005 ATP Metz (FRA) I_Hard Ivan Ljubicic 7-6(7) 6-0 Final

They never played on clay, but if GAel is going to stay 65 meteres behind the baseline there is no way he is going to break Ivan's serve, and i am sure that Ljubo will get and of course use his chances...

Ljubo IMO easily now to the semis, Radek is going to defeat Ferrer, and then lose to Ljubo...

Im thinking about place a bankroll on ljubicic over monfils @ 1.70 tomorrow.
I just cant see monfils winning another long match and how should he break ivans serve if he will again staying 50 meters behind the baselines.

What do you think about this wager?

This will be a dire match between two pushers. They should both just go for aces on every single serve.

That said Monfils will prevail.

Monfils was very relaxed at the end of the last match. I don't see fitness playing a role in this match. He also mentioned that he is far less tired compared to last year, I think monfils will win and I would like to see a monfils/federer sf. Hopefully stepanek takes out ferrer,

If Ljubo serves good Monfils wont be able to win a set...Monfils is a hit or miss player. if he comes out cold it will be a short day for him.

If Monfils can play that match without many unforced errors he may reach 1/4 finals.

Great performance by the French players with Monfils, Chardy, Llodra and Benneteau in 4th round. Well done!

Monfils got here by beating a clay clown(Clement), a cripple(Horna) and just a plain clown(Melzer).

Ljubo is starting to play his best tennis and serving like a beast. Monfils will be struggling to break that serve.

if he goes too far back Ljubo will hit it short/wide and middle/kick and move in, if Monfils stays in the 224 heat is coming.

I agree...Monfils will have a lot of problems with kick serve, especially (this kick is best in business) and Ljubo should keep this serve for crucial moments

I stand by what I said, I didn't say Ivan would win. I just Monfils talent is squandered and he won't ever amount to anything. He's lucky that he's gotten as far as he has. Ivan is a much better player than Monfils is and not just because he has more closely maximized his potential.

That's your opinion and that's fine but how is Ivan better than Gael after losing to him? Maybe a couple years ago but not anymore.
Quarterfinals of a grand slam is a pretty good achievement to me...

More complete player, smarter player tactically, etc.

Monfils is a great athlete at the moment, that is all.

Monfils beat him on clay, keep in mind this being his best surface not Ivans.

QF of slam is a good achievement to you? Then you are thinking like Monfils as he clearly hasn't committed himself to the sport yet, and he has no business at the business end of a grand slam. Let me clarify, unless some radical changes are made by Gael he will never rise to game's elite; as he was once so heavily touted to do.

I'm saying it's a good result for anybody really besides the top few guys.
Keep in mind he has missed a ton of time with injuries, and if you have heard what Champion has said about Gael, he has talked about how Gael can't come back firing winners after being out for months. I agree though, he does need to become more aggressive, everyone knows that.

I'm a gigantic Gael fan and i have to agree with everything you said.

He was in pure pusher mode today. The thing is that he has the potential to be a more aggresive player. He said he wants to be like Blake, but i don't think he needs to be that mindless. More aggresive like him, sure.

At least he's not like Serra or Simon who's only talent is pushing.

Monfils has a very similar/maybe slightly better track record (ranking wise) at the same age. Imo he is going to do far better at the slams than Ljubcic ever did.

Injuries because he plays a style that disagrees with his large frame, because he doesn't do the proper conditioning and training off court. It's no secret that Gael isn't hardest working man off court. He can't comeback firing winners because it's something he simply doesn't know how to do effectively.

Well, Blaze we usually see eye to eye on things and in this case it's true again; I'm also a Monfils fan. I enjoy the entertainment and energy he brings to the court. He's good for tennis!

But my criticisms of his game are real. He has poor footwork, many of his shots are not technically sound, and he simply isn't committed enough to the sport to ever rise to the top. He's very athletically gifted, more so than Nadal or Federer. Monfils lacks drive, he cannot realize the potential of his game until he gets his act together off court, some players simply never do.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

The guy just doesn't put in the work off the court. Probably because he is too busy recovering from the latest injury due to him throwing his 6'4 self around like he is 5'9 :o

He is still young, 21-22, so all hope is not lost, not at all. It will be very interesting to see his development in the future. Guys like he and Sexy are good for the game, a constrast of the robots that are around

Agreed. Monfils is a spectacle for sure. He's fun to watch, no doubt. ;)

I however, was just talking about his game. It needs work, and the first step is Monfils head.
