07-05-2004, 04:36 PM
is this the tournament where all the matches are played at night? i remember there is some small american tournament that is like that.

07-05-2004, 04:51 PM
No, that's Long Island

07-05-2004, 04:51 PM
No that's Washington DC in August. This is on grass, so its played during the day (grass dews up and gets too wet to play at night). The odd thing about this tournament is that the courts are right next to each other in one big stadium. That would be annoying.

07-05-2004, 04:54 PM
I thought Long Island started in the evening too.

07-05-2004, 07:05 PM
thanx bunk18bsb, keep us informed
does it look like there's going to be any play today?

07-05-2004, 08:43 PM
It has been raining there today and all main draw play has been suspended until tomorrow. They are going to try to finish the Qual matches today if they can.

07-05-2004, 08:56 PM
ooooo thanks for that info :))

thanks, so that tells me that I don't have to wait anymore for matches today

I'm a couple hours north of Rhode Island but it rained here, and it rained in NY... RI is in between, and they showed a parade this morning that looked pretty rainy in Bristol, RI (RI is a small enough state so that no matter where Bristol and Newport are in relation to each other, they almost surely have the same weather conditions:lol: )

The weather here has been very Wimbledon-like.... drizzle, brightness, drizzle, heavier rain, brightness, drizzle.......etc. I don't see how they'd be able to play much tennis in it, assuming the conditions are similar (which I think they are as most of S. New England generally has similar weather give or take a little)

07-05-2004, 09:34 PM
I'm really sad now that we don't get results and that they don't play...

what a fucking joke this is all!!! :banghead: :banghead:
:rain: :rain: rain rain rain rain :rain: :rain: :rain:

with Newport, we are on a different latitude, we are on longitude, we are even on a different continent... so one might think that's enough to escape the rain, but NO it's not! :( :rain:

let's hope the other days are going well, or it will be like Wimbledon

07-05-2004, 09:36 PM
:( It was really nice yesterday! LOL

I believe you, isn't this Newport a frigging good place to go for holidays if you want to go swimming and have beautiful beaches?

07-05-2004, 09:57 PM
when will Melzer playing?

07-05-2004, 10:01 PM
hey my friend :D

when will Melzer playing?
not today as everything was cancelled, maybe tomorrow when he is lucky, maybe on Wednesday

Yep Newport is known for the big mansions and rich people. I've never actually been myself as it's quite expensive and there are other vacation spots just as close and just as nice that are less busy and less expensive (such as Vermont:)). Anyway they just did the Boston forecast and I can't imagine it'd be a whole lot different - tomorrow should be better but still a chance of rain. Wednesday looks good but T-storms are possible on Thursday. Preliminarily looks nice for the weekend :)

07-05-2004, 10:13 PM
thanks for the report, Bunk :)
I will take anything more postive than today's situation, let's hope for better weather and for some -hopefully not too often interrupted- play the next days... that's really makes me sick if my favorite tournament this week should be so badly affected by rain.

07-05-2004, 10:18 PM
You're welcome :) I guess when in doubt just check out, here's the link for Newport

I s'pose you could also check out the local tv stations. Here's the weather link to the Providence station - seems pretty comprehensive!

Neely I hope that Melzer can do good in this tournoment
I already saw your message in his cheering thread! :D
and thanks for the news earlier about his olympics

and what do you means with the words longitude and latitude when you was talking about the rain here earlier? don't know this you are talking here?

07-05-2004, 10:23 PM
I think she meant that we're far away from London and Wimbledon but still having rain problems LOL

07-05-2004, 10:27 PM
yeah exactly... don't worry, melx I wouldn't know how you would say for this in Thailand either LOL... main thing is that you know the basic English ;)

Results for Monday, July 5 2004

Qualifying Final Round B Baker (USA) leads (2)R Kendrick (USA) 61
(6)M Mertinak (SVK) leads T Rettenmaier (USA) 53 (15-0)

All First Round Singles and Doubles Matches as well as two more final round qualifying matches were postponed due to rain.

07-05-2004, 10:33 PM
tnx PatatRiek, at least a piece of results :)

well, I think Melzer could do well in this tournament. I mean, he could rarely get any better draw to win an ATP tournament. Or what do you want more than no Roddick, no Clément, no Grosjean, no Federer, no Johansson(s), no Bjorkman in the draw of a grass tournament??
only thing that worries me is his shoulder and his bad form recently. He was on a hot streak until the semifinal in St. Pölten, then a complete letdown and all this rubbish talk about that he even would need shoulder surgery  :banhgead: ... fortunately, doctors said it was not necessary. phew...

07-06-2004, 03:02 AM
oh noooooo what was wrong with Jurgen? Is he ok now, though? Good luck to him in this tourney.... I saw him play in Houston in April and was rather impressed :)

07-06-2004, 03:28 PM
Where we I can find score today from Newport....thanks
