Do it for Juliette in Gstaad!

Incredibly Roger will be back in action in a day or two in his home country.

Plays first round match against Berdych.

Given that this is on clay I don't think Roger will get very far but after what has happened yesterday, I don't really care ;)

Still good luck Roger! I am sure winning a tournament in his home country would be as special as Wimbledon but in a different way.

Yes I agree Wyv. If I have to bet, I would bet Roger would win his Semi final match than his first round match. ;) This first round match will be crucial if he wants to win this tournament. Even if he is tired, I am sure he will be ready when he walks onto the court and hears the cheer from the audience. :)

:haha: at the title

though all I can think of is still that "bored, uninterested and confused" look of Juliette's face (like the one in suktuen's comic) :haha:

But ya, it's a pity that one of his home tournament has to be right after wimby and worse on a totally different surface.

Let's hope he managed to pull through few rounds for the sake of his home fans :D

Yep, Rogi must be very keen to play in front of his home crowd. It's a special tournament for Rogi that's why he receives the invitation even though it's held right after the grass 'season'.

I don't mind how far he'll go... i am just hoping he won't get too tired for the hard court season.

This year's present? An alphorn :)

Federer blows into alpine Gstaad for mountain music serenade

GSTAAD, Switzerland, Jul 6 (AFP) - A year after receiving an
800-kilogram Swiss milking cow in honour of a first Wimbledon title,
Roger Federer was Tuesday presented with a traditional
three-metre-long alphorn with which to serenade his bovine friend.
Officials at the Swiss Open tried to outdo themselves as the
double Wimbledon winner returned to his home event following another
resounding trophy success on the grass of the All England club
Sunday.
With millions of dollars in the bank after 17 career titles
including three Grand Slams, there is little that the modest
22-year-old needs or wants to buy.
So the tournament handed over another typically Swiss momento -
an instrument so long that is has to rest partly on the ground -
which he might never have dreamed of purchasing himself.
It all happened during a centre court ceremony at the
high-altitude clay event where Federer is playing as top seed.
Just a few weeks after Swiss cows completed the summer trek from
low winter pastures to the alpine highlands to feed on the sweet
mountain grass, city-boy Federer from Basel was temporarily roped
into the rural ambience of his home nation.
The national sporting idol, clad in t-shirt and jeans, walked
out on court to a standing ovation from proud fans and - putting on
a dark, short-sleeved Swiss herder's gilet - took a trial run on a
huge wooden alphorn.
The musical effect was more than decent, according to the two
professional artists who serenaded the winner with a song before he
had a go himself.
With his cow Juliette - now mother of a calf - described as
"lonely" high up in the fields surrounding the VIP village by emcee
and former Swiss tennis star Heinz Gunthardt, Federer was goaded
into trying to hit a note or two.
"We know you'd never have thought to have bought a cow," said
Gunthardt. "Now, you have an alphorn. Please take it with you over
the next year and practise a bit."
Quipped Federer: "I'm sure they'd just love it when I try and
bring this on board a flight, especially when you try and put it in
the luggage compartment."
Federer tried to describe the emotion as he lifted a second
consecutive title at the All England club 48 hours earlier. "On
match point, my knees got wobbly. I fell backwards on the grass, but
luckily bounced back like a spring."
As for any potential music career, Federer prefers to
concentrate on what he does best. "I think I played piano when I was
a kid, but I gave it up pretty fast."

The Swiss organizers are so nice. They always come up with special gifts that Roger wouldn't buy that also has deep meanings for the Swiss. There was a welcome event on the center court just for Roger and celebrating his win during the day. :)

Thanks a lot for the article Jtipson. I am also going to post it in GM to share it with others. :)

Federer: “It’s amazing, I’m very surprised myself because I’m extremely tired. I have no very high expectations for this tournament but it seems with my relaxed style I get through these kind f matches. I had only 25 minutes of play on this surface before I play the match and I’m very pleased that I had a win today.”

“It’s very relaxing, I think the people enjoy very much that I come here. They support me and they like to be close to me. For me it’s nice to share this moment with the Swiss people and the tennis fans. I just go out there and have fun and it like they are enjoying it too. The more match that I win, the more party we can have.”

It seems the final will be best of 3 sets if it rains on Sunday. Maybe Mirka will be doing a rain dance while Roger plays on the alphorn?

That's great. I mean I have my personal troll akin/ale following whenever I post something and told me I needed brain surgery, then again what can I say to that, except they haven't found his brain, just an empty mass inside a cranium.

Mirka doing a raindance would be quite funny, and we know she is the boss in that relationship.

Why does Gstaad change their trophy design around so much? I liked the piece of modern art that they used for years but last year they changed it to a crystal vase trophy and now its a rock like structure with a brass ball in the middle. I like the new design and hope its sticks.

True Dirk. You know the USO could learn something from Båstad about fair organising within rain delays. Example, the QFs they were all played at the same time on 4 different courts, so no one player got an advantage and the same for the semi finals as well.

You're one of the most uptight, humorless 'fans' of Roger here so the fact that you take offense to every little harmless thing is to be expected. Congratulations Einstein, this will one of the most enjoyable posts of all time.
How many errors do I need to correct here. One, Dirk and myself have had many arguments, but these have been sorted out and it was directly believe it or not. Two, he has bagged me many times and vice versa, so that's not a secret at all, then again of course you would have missed times when I have defended him.

Next, since someone known as Tangerinus called me a Nazi, and there was never any evidence of racial purity theories, eugenics and other stuff associated, which never came out of my mouth. You know I have absolutely no respect for you ( great avatars) and that goes both ways, so how is that a secret? That's the same for virtually everyone at Ducknation, it goes both ways the mutual love.

Yes, even people I like here, I have argued with and have told them the same thing to their face. Get it right tangerinus I mean, call me arrogant, tight-fisted, rude, unfriendly, surly, unhelpful and that's alright, but at least get somewhere near the truth.

What are you trying to prove? It's very well-known you don't like me and vice versa and it's never been hidden.

Calling me a sheep actually shows your complete ineptitude and apart from your great avatars, the masses are waiting for your great intellectual contributions to MTF.

Go for it, Dirk. I can't wait to rip you a new one.

Before you start ripping anything perhaps you should fix some holes in your arguments.

If Heya found it then that forum is not some secret society. My point is that there is very little difference between talking about people on the Roddick forum and talking about people on some other public forum.

Your point is moot because I never said it was a secret society, I said that nobody in the AR forum knew about it until it was brought to our attention. The Queen's sheep trash people behind their backs knowing full well that the people they're talking about isn't aware of it or the forum they're in. If you don't grasp this simple concept then I can't help you.

And it's a good indiciation that you should MYOB and STFU.

Before you start ripping anything perhaps you should fix some holes in your arguments.

Perhaps you should let Dirk fight his own battles and quit being his protector, Mom.

addendum.....

And also, WyverN, my beef isn’t with you or Queen Midol’s forum. If they want to talk about us to their wits’ end, that’s their perogative. It’s rather pathetic that they follow us everywhere and are obsessed with our every word, but they can have it. I don’t care. When heya posts their links, I crack up because I can’t believe so much energy is spent hating on us. I’m floored by the vitroli and I’m honored that we take up so much of their time and life that they have actually dedicated an entire thread to us. We rule! :rocker2:

But no, my beef is with Dirk and his inane comment that I’m not a “real” Federer fan; a PHONY Federer fan! Can someone explain to me what exactly it means to be a “phony” fan? How does one fake fandom? This is new territory for me. If I don’t like somebody, I don’t like them. I don’t pretend to like them just for the hell of it. And I sure wouldn’t spend money buying their matches on tape.

As you said, WyverN, if somebody wants to be a fan of Roger because “he wins a lot” or for whatever reason, then that’s their business and it’s not Dirk’s place to proclaim them a “real” fan or not. Just because somebody doesn’t fit into some myopic mold of Dirk’s of what a “true” fan looks, sounds and acts like, doesn’t mean that one is a better fan than the other. Star is a fan of Andy’s but he’s not her absolute favorite, he’s like No. 3 or 4 on her list. I can’t imagine anybody in the AR forum being so stupidly presumptuous as to accuse her of not being a “real” fan of Andy’s.

I am calling Dirk on his bullshit and I’m waiting for him to provide proof that I’m not a “real” fan of Roger. I can’t wait to see what crap he comes up with.

Hee-hee! I was going on your apparent lack of friendliness with Roddick fans, or maybe that was Fedex I was thinking about... ;)

May your first verbal conflict with Andyroxmysox be a perfectly acrimonious one! After all, I've got bucks riding on that match.

lol at the thread...what does all these have to do with Juliette? :haha:

I tried contributing to this "off topic's topic" but I gave up...besides being too lazy, I'm also more in the celebrating mood than to engage in any arguments

So I should just stick to what I'm supposedly here for, to cerebrate another tournament thread closed with victory :

:bounce: :woohoo: :bounce:

Well done Juliette!!! :haha:

Tangy in my last post in which I mentioned your name I said I was deciding whether you were worth it or not. Given that I have not responded to you, its obvious its the latter.

Don't worry there will be no arguement here anymore because the people I don't like I will simply place on ignore. First I have to figure out how to do it.

hi everyone, i will be in switzerland almost all of August.
a weird thing I am tempted to do is visit the farm where Juliette lives and see the famous cow for myself- -- anyone know if this is even permitted? and where is this?

BaselineSmash

Hmmmmh, so we're thinking of stalking Roger's cow, are we? Not a bad idea. I advise you remember to bring a balaclava and binoculars. Whilst you're stalking Juliette, I can go take a few snapshots of the famed Alphorn. And if it's not out for public display, I may just have to stalk it, and mention it more times than Federer in any articles I write that are supposed to be about his tennis.

yeah... stalking Juliette now! I will surely try to take pictures, if I first find out more about the whereabouts of this Bovine Form :)

I remember when Marti (hingis) was at the top of her game and I was such a big fan, I was very keen to go to Trubbach to just see if I could run into her!! But then I thought that it would construe being obsessed and/or stalking so I never did. Thankfully Juliette will not report to anyone that this crazy person came all the way to see a cow!

Dirk, its quite simple. First view your public profile. Then, under where the signature usually is, is 'Add to my Buddy list' , and 'Add to my ignore list'. Click on the latter, then type in the name(s), you want to. Thats it.
