AN Australian tennis star has been arrested over an alleged date ****, British tabloid The Sun reports.

Paul Hanley, 30, is on bail after a woman in her 20s accused him of sexual assault, the paper reports.

The Sun says the pair went to Hanley's home after meeting at a bar near the All England Club in Wimbledon, London.

A spokeswoman for the UK's Metropolitan Police confirmed an allegation of **** had been made in the early hours of March 8.

Hanley, who specialises in doubles tennis, split with long-time doubles partner Wayne Arthurs in 2006 and now plays with Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe.

His highest doubles world ranking to date has been No.6, but he is currently ranked 16.

Hanley is Australia’s second-highest money earner on the professional tennis circuit behind Lleyton Hewitt.

Poor Paul  I don't know what to think actually..

Yeah exactly. You know them British chicks..MONEY-HUNGRY SLUTS!

She probably got blind rotten drunk, and gave it all up, then woke up in the morning and realised he slept with someone with money and with a legitimate social standing - so she's after a bit cash from him. Paul's a nice bloke, would never do uch a thing..ever!

I don't believe it, surely it's is a girl he has been with and then she realises that maybe he didn't want as much of a relationship as she did and she decided to get back at him. But you never know. What strikes me is the date.. Shouldn't he be on the way to Indian Wells by that date...I don't believe it, i hope that those of us who believe in him wont be proven wrong..

I'd be surprised if this has any truth to it. These kind of accusations happen every week in the UK...usually against footballers. He's publicly denied it and the police are happy to let him travel abroad on bail, which is something they don't always do. It wouldn't surprise me if this girl's first call was to The Sun, then to the police. Having said that, if he's guilty then bang him up.

Classy.

Come back when you've got a sports star who isn't a cheating coke fiend or dosed up on steroids. Argentinians are the epitome of shameless trash.

Maybe you are right.

But people who make such remarks about **** victims are part of the reason that so few women actually report being *****. It disgusts me to see the stuff that you have written when you know absolutely nothing about it. Hanley is innocent until proven guilty, but I really fail to see why you would be so verbally abusive of a woman who may have suffered a horrific crime.

You are entitiled to your opinion, of course, but such generalisations and assumptions about this girl are totally uncalled for imo.

Well it seems necessary when you know the bloke, and realise how much this will tarnish not only his tennis reputation, but his life. My uncle is friends with Paul, and I've met him on many occasions, he's not capable of it imo.

Oh well, I'm sure we'll know more through a trial and all that kind of stuff. Hopefully Paul has lived up to his good bloke rep and hasn't stooped so low. I doubt he has.

Paul's tennis has been in the doldrums since this all came up. What a shame as these sorts of accusations can wreck a career!
