Colin Ebelthite top 100 here i come.

05-02-2008, 05:37 AM

Colin Ebelthite is a man in form and on the move.

Since joining the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Pro Tour squad in January, Ebelthite has been in scintillating form and lost just three of 24 matches this year.

In a mammoth month of tennis, the South Australian won three Futures titles including Sorrento (WA), Perth and Wellington.

His impressive run has seen his ranking rocket to a career high 230, an outstanding feat given only sixteen months ago he was ranked No.703 in the world.

Ebelthite has a simple explanation for his dramatic transformation.

"Joining the AIS and working with a coach and a trainer for the first time in quite a few years that definitely got me into better shape and I've been working a lot harder off the court and the rewards have been a lot better on the court," Ebelthite said.

"It helps me a lot just having the coach when I play matches giving me advice, doing the training and doing the game plans.

"Then the physical side of it having the strength and conditioning party there helping out as well, for me it's really important and so far it's been great I'm really enjoying it."

The 23 year old knows there is a lot of hard work ahead if he is to take the next step onto the ATP Tour but is planning to stick to his current winning formula in the hope he will soon reap the rewards.

"I just want to enjoy playing tennis and stay healthy and fit and keep on improving on all the little stuff to keep heading in the right direction," he said.

"[Ultimately I will] hopefully be in the top 100 and maybe even in the top 50 in the world, I just want to reach my potential as a player."

Ebelthite is now at the end of a three week training block and will soon resume his charge up the rankings when he competes in a Futures event in Korea, several Challenger tournaments in India and America before hopefully contesting qualifying for Wimbledon.

Tennis is now a full-time job for Ebelthite and keeps him on the road for much of the year but while the window of opportunity to make his mark on the world stage remains open he is determined to give it his all.

"I think this year I've maybe been home for a week and a half for the whole year so it's a lot of hard work and a lot of travel," he said.

"It is tough, I was just home for the weekend and really enjoyed it there but I guess my mates and family are going to be there forever and I've got one crack at the tennis so I'm going to try and make the most of it."

I guess goodluck to him

they also posted this after he just like 6-3 6-2 to fellow aussie Matthew Ebden at a Korea 15K

Well done Azza for starting this! I wish Colin and of course, my heavenly one , keep climbing and pushing each other up the ranks. I wonder if they like each other as a doubles partnership would fit perfectly here!

05-09-2008, 10:02 AM
Good luck to him, but I don't think he'll go much further than he already has.

05-10-2008, 09:51 AM
Go Colin! I have faith!

05-18-2008, 02:10 AM
Colin made the QF of a weak india 50K losing to number 1 seed Lu 6-1 6-4

and is back at another 50K in india facing a WC in R1 which he should win

05-19-2008, 03:05 PM
Good luck this week Colin!

05-20-2008, 03:03 AM
Ebelthite Won his R1 6-3 6-4 :)

07-11-2008, 11:51 AM
After a bad week of dropping from 209 in the rankings to 247 hes hit back with a semifinal in Israel. Hes got Ivo Klec in the semis and is the second highest seed left in the draw. If he is able to win the challenger he will move inside the top 200 which will be great for him. He is playing in Manchester next week and then heading to North America for some more challengers.

Hes definetly putting himself in the position to attempt to crack the top 100.

07-11-2008, 10:26 PM
he lost in the SF 64 63 but i think this will push himn back up to 220

07-11-2008, 10:58 PM
Some great form here from Colin. Keep it up. I think this new group are really pushing each other which is wonderful!

07-16-2008, 01:41 AM
Shitty first round loss overnight in Manchester to a Japanese player in a third set tie break. The score of that was 8/6!

07-16-2008, 07:33 AM

Oh well, hopefully with a few more good tournaments he can crack the top 200 :)

07-16-2008, 09:23 AM
He must not like the grass at all. not many wins on grass this yr with the 4-5 grass tourneis hes played

07-17-2008, 01:43 PM
I saw him play the Wimby qualies this year and his game is certainly not matched to grass...but it's largely a matter of attitude as well. He didn't hit a single volley that I can recall and was actually retreating from the net after getting almost to the service line to hit ground strokes. He would've been better off travelling to the US to play some of the hardcourt events.

I have to say, from what I saw his chances of getting into the top 100 any time soon were very very slim.

09-21-2008, 06:17 AM
A really nice win in the Kawana final today against Marinko Matosevic who was certainly in great form during the week. Colin was the top seed and there were some really good players competing so well done.

09-22-2008, 12:59 AM
Yes a great win for Colin, good to see him win a title again and regain some confidence.

Good to see the South Australian No.2 doing well :)

09-22-2008, 02:54 PM
Top seed this week again in Gympie. Be great to get another win and creep closer to the top 200.

09-25-2008, 07:14 AM
Eek lost to Josh Crowe 76 in third:eek:

01-06-2009, 07:50 AM
Anyone know where Colin is playing next week? Sydney Quals I'm assuming??

01-06-2009, 09:17 AM
I hope so. I will find out.

01-06-2009, 09:24 AM
I've been following Colin's progress in the ranks and I must say definitely some good stuff, let's hope he'll take advantage of the bigger level (than futures :o) tournaments in Australia that are played now; I think he has a good shot at the challengers that will be played soon, hopefully will also qualify to Sydney.

01-06-2009, 09:32 AM
Good on you Nathalilia! You obviously know your tennis and thanks for supporting our Colin! Good on you!

01-06-2009, 10:01 AM
And Colin's a South Australian so extra deserving of all our support! ;)

Hey Scotty! :wavey:

01-07-2009, 04:16 AM
Colin is a wonderful fella too. He will be playing in New Zealand qualifying next week.
Cheers geetee!

01-08-2009, 08:28 AM
NZ Quallies aye? good on him as he won alot of matches in Futures level last yr im sure thats why hes going for the fact that he has good memories

01-08-2009, 12:42 PM
Good luck to him in NZ. He has really surprised me of late with his wins over Luczak and Groth in the wildcard playoff and then his very close and unlucky 3 set loss to Gilles Muller.

01-11-2009, 08:48 AM
Wow the results keep getting better. Defeats Spadea in three sets to set up a very winnable final qualifying round match against Hernandez. If he could progress through there it is likely he would have a nice first round match against either Serra, Montanes or a qualifier.

01-11-2009, 09:31 AM
Awesome win there over Spadea. He was actually down a match point at 1/6 3/5 even more impressive for his fighting qualities.

01-11-2009, 02:44 PM
"[Ultimately I will] hopefully be in the top 100 and maybe even in the top 50 in the world, I just want to reach my potential as a player."

Playing ATP qualies and giving yourself a chance at qualifying is the quickest way to get yourself into the top 100. I'm hoping Colin can win a couple more matches in Auckland and have a good Grand Slam debut in Melbourne.

01-12-2009, 03:17 AM
Colin lost to the King Hernandez 5-7 6-3 2-6  hope he gets LL maybe

01-12-2009, 12:48 PM
Sadly no Azza. Back in Melbourne aleady. Lucky he won the wc play off as he would not ever have won a wild card as he is over 21!

03-06-2009, 03:17 AM
Colin is heading to Japan to play a Kyoto Challenger. Wishing him well.

03-09-2009, 05:16 AM
Playing Ivo Klec in the first round.

04-10-2009, 09:35 PM
Good luck with the qualies this week.

10-25-2009, 03:54 AM
About three weeks away from a comeback after injury. Cant wait to see what Colin can up with. best of luck mate!

12-04-2009, 04:51 AM
So glad Colin is back and getting matches under his belt before the summer!!

He just beat brydan klein today in three tight sets at bendigo!!

04-30-2010, 12:57 AM
Bournemouth 10k Clay Futures
R1: Ebelthite def (Q)Bettles (GBR) (1576) 64 57 64
R2: Ebelthite def (LL) Pritchard (GBR) (1462) 62 62
QF: Ebelthite def (Q) Sakharov (FRA) (946) 67 75 75
SF: Ebelthite vs Vasiliev (RUS) (648)

Probably expected given his opponents and had a few unexpected struggles but good to see Colin into the SF with a chance of a final berth. Other half of the tournament is a lot stronger.

05-01-2010, 07:18 AM
Colin was beaten comfortably 63 62. He also lost the doubles final with Australian Junior Jarryd Maher. Good week nonetheless. It appears as though his next tournament will be the Edinburgh clay futures next week.

05-11-2010, 04:46 AM
I heard Colin has officially "retired" - he's actually a coach now and is just playing these futures because they happen to be tournaments where he is coaching anyway....

05-11-2010, 01:43 PM
I heard Colin has officially "retired" - he's actually a coach now and is just playing these futures because they happen to be tournaments where he is coaching anyway....

Thanks for the information. Sad to see him "retire" but good to see he is staying involved.

07-07-2010, 07:04 AM
I heard Colin has officially "retired" - he's actually a coach now and is just playing these futures because they happen to be tournaments where he is coaching anyway....

Colin played in a UK future last week and this week. I'm wondering if he is actually retired and coaching now because he has had a different doubles partner at all of these recent future events which doesn't seem to add up. You would think a coach would play with his player in doubles consistantly. Hopefully he isn't completely retired and is eyeing a return.

07-11-2010, 10:28 PM
I believe Colin is coaching a female player, so can't play dubs in these tournies with his player. Doing ok in the Futures singles events, so maybe will make a full-time return. Most probs depends on funding, like many others...

07-25-2010, 12:31 PM
Colin was coaching a female player...Alexandra Cannizaro. Now not coaching her anymore and concentrating on his own career again which injury free should go well I hope.

08-01-2010, 10:29 AM
got a semi final result this week again ina 15k in the UK so slowly but surely he is getting some results. Come on Colin.

08-01-2010, 10:56 AM
Yeah, good to see Colin firing again. Hope he can make it back to Challenger tournament level.

10-09-2010, 05:28 AM
Colin's comeback is certainly gathering steam with his second consecutive futures final.

R1: Colin EBELTHITE (AUS) (5) defeated Nima ROSHAN (AUS) 6-3 6-1
R2: Colin EBELTHITE (AUS) (5) defeated Yuri BEZERUK (AUS) 6-1 4-6 6-1
QF: Colin EBELTHITE (AUS) (5) defeated Brydan KLEIN (AUS) (2) 6-4 6-4
SF: Colin EBELTHITE (AUS) (5) defeated Eric CHVOJKA (CAN) (6) 6-3 6-2.

Nice to see him beat Chvojka and make it an all aussie final against Lindahl. Should be an interesting final when you look at Colin's form and Nick's ability.

10-11-2010, 12:03 PM
Colin won the final 36 75 63. He will look to make it three in a row this week in Happy Valley where he plays Nima Roshhan in the first round.

10-14-2010, 03:15 PM
Happy Valley 15k Hard

Rd 1: [5] Colin Ebelthite (AUS) d Nima Roshan (AUS) 6-7(6) 7-6(5) 6-3
Rd 2: Michael Look (AUS) d [5] Colin Ebelthite (AUS) 6-1 7-6(8)

No third title in a row for Colin this week. Bundled out in the second round which is a little bit surprising but Look was always going to be a tough opponent. Hopefully Colin can get back on his winning ways soon.

06-22-2011, 03:09 AM
Ebelthite is still active on the Futures Circuit.
Word was that he and Feeney, back from some serious injury problems, were going to play the doubles circuit and build a doubles career.
Feeney developed an injury a few weeks ago, so perhaps Colin is just biding his time on the Futures singles circuit while Feeney recovers?

Anyway he had a few wins in Italy last week and is playing in Holland this week, where he won his 1st round match 63 30(ret), and now faces the No.2 seed Bastian Knittel

06-22-2011, 10:46 PM
Knittel too solid for Ebelthite and eliminates him, winning in straight sets 63 64.
Heard Feeney is back training with the Aussies guys in Sutton, so should be back with Ebelthite in the dubs soon, maybe, if that is the plan?

06-29-2011, 04:27 AM
Colin is playing a Futures Tournment in France where he beat Benjamin Marty 6-3 6-2 in the first round. Takes on the number 4 seed Jonathan Eysseric in the second round.

06-29-2011, 05:27 AM
Good win but Eysseric will be a lot tougher.

06-30-2011, 09:54 PM
Well, well... Ebelthite shows his class and cleans up No.4 seed Jonathan Eyesseric 61 60 and advances to the Qf round.
Playes No.5 seed Chilean Jorge Aguilar next.
Go Colin

07-01-2011, 07:39 AM
Colin WTF? What a win. Good luck in the quaters.

07-03-2011, 01:35 PM
Colin heads to the challenger circuit this week playing in Schveningen where he had to go through quallies. Won his first match against Bossel 2-6 6-4 6-4 then in the final round beat number 3 seed Renavand 7-5 7-6(4). Good lukc in the main draw.

Also top seed in doubles with Adam Feeney. :D

07-06-2011, 01:24 AM
Colin has a solid win against Vincent Millot 6-4 7-6(5)

11-04-2011, 06:59 AM
Collin playing in a futures tournment in Australia had to qualify to make the main draw is through to the semis where he will take on Matthew Barton.

12-31-2011, 07:53 AM
Brisbane QR1: Ebelthite Def Gruel 6-1 6-2. Great win!

01-01-2012, 08:06 AM
Colin has/had potential but always struggled with constant injuries....that Greul smackdown was a good win for him

Unfortunately he went down today to Michael Look 63 64

01-01-2012, 08:16 AM
Gruel must have played terrible.

01-08-2012, 05:31 PM
he plays AO qualies?

01-09-2012, 11:16 AM
Colin and MM played beautifully to win their first round doubles match in Sydney against the number three seeds. Keep it up boys!

01-09-2012, 11:23 AM
Colin used to be my coach.

Awesome form mate.

01-09-2012, 12:26 PM
The Poles were initially targetting Colin but soon realised he was no push over...far from it! He was moving well, volleying beautifully and anticipating. MM and he were communicating so well too. So proud of him. He was awesome!

01-29-2012, 03:31 AM
Burnie QR1: Ebelthite Def Verryth 6-4 6-1
Burnie QR2: Ebelthite Def Whittington 7-5 6-1
Burnie FQR: Ebelthite Def Lindahl 7-5 3-6 6-3.

Good luck in the main draw Collin.

01-29-2012, 04:27 AM
Colin is now transferring his wonderful doubles form to the singles court! Great efforts in both Sydeny and Melbourne must have filled him with great confidence. I was really impressed to see him beating the young talents such as Verryth and Whittington so easily. Lindahl should have been much easier but great for Colin to get through to the main draw.Do some damage mate!

01-30-2012, 10:08 AM
Colin went down 5-7 6-2 7-5. He served for the match

01-31-2012, 06:38 AM
very sad to see this result. Win the doubles now.

01-31-2012, 07:42 PM
Got through a tough match in the doubles.
