James Blake in Barcelona

Quite surprising considering the fact James played a lot of tennis last 6 weeks, including final in Houston a week ago. Does James feel on fire and wants to make some run in Roland Garros?

Well at least he is playing on clay  I think Querrey withdrew from a tournie this week. Doubtful to me JB is playing thinking about getting some practise for RG. Either the money was good or he wants practise for Davis Cup. Don't know ;don't care and I like James in small doses ;)

Lots of players take WC's occasionally even though they could've made direct entry if they had signed up. Blake doesn't do it often (I can't recall him doing it ever actually, but I could be wrong). So long as players don't do it too often (i.e. Safin) I don't have a problem with it. Priorities, schedules, appearance fee offers, and a host of other factors can all change which may change a player's decision to play. It's impossible to plan for everything.

Plus, it's nice to see him on clay earlier than usual. He should make it to the quarterfinals, although I don't think he'll be able to get past Almagro or Murray on clay. It'd probably take some luck to get to the semis.

Who cares about Blake playing a non-american clay tournament?

The draw is quite friendly for James, there is a tiny chance for him to get to clash with Rafa in semifinal and then I expect him to take a set off Rafa.

If Blake can take 1 set off Nadal, Robby Ginepri, the real caly master can take 2 :retard:

I think Querrey withdrew from a tournie this week...

he did? he must've done it pretty early then because i watched him play gasquet a couple of days ago and when he had the usual chat with the umpire during the coin toss thing he got asked "where are you going next, sam?" and he was like "rome". or "home". couldn't quite figure that out. guess the latter makes perfect sense as well since he was facing an pre-match in-form gasquet. :D

on Barcelona clay:

Nadal - Blake 6-1 6-2

James is not getting past Almagro / Murray in QF if he ever gets that far (well, I think he is not getting past Gremelmayr / RRH, although he was indeed quite lucky with the draw and all the mugs in his parts of the draw)

Sam was signed up for Munich but withdrew.

Almagro and Murray aren't bad match-ups for Blake if he makes it that far.

Mugro will probably be trying twice as hard to outbash him after their last meeting and land every 2nd ball in Corsica. And Blake can hit winners off Murray's 2nd serve on any surface even if he returns with his dick.
Although I wouldn't be too surprised to see Ancic, Volandri or even Melzer come through that section.

He said after he lost in Monte Carlo that he was going home and taking 3 weeks off and not playing again til the week before RG. Where's all the support for him now, he'll actually end up playing less on clay than the others who got all the hate

WTH, Sam Querry isn't going to play Rome? Doesn't he understand he's the #1 contender to knock off Rafa? That huge serve can do it!

He's been sent on a secret mission to get a sample of that Spanish clay and see if the USA can find a weakness for Davis Cup.

I never like to predict on how James will do in a tournament because he is just as likely to crash out in the 1st round then go far, particularly as this is clay. However, he has a great opportunity to get to a semi of a European clay event looking at his draw. He will have a awkward start against either Hildalgo or Gremelmayr who both caused Fed problems recently. A potential QF with either Almagro or Murray will be interesting but he has beaten both previously on clay before. Good luck James!!! :)
