MC semis: top 4 in the world

Ok, I know that Djoke hasn't won yet, however I cannot' see a surprise in his match vs Querrey (jinx). So it would make 1-2-3-4 semis. When was the last time when in the semis we saw 1-2-3-4 players in the world ?

French Open 2006, maybe something later

BTW, pity that Gasquet lost and Youzhny was injured, it could've been 8 top seeded in QF, which would be a great exception to the rule that unknown players go far in clayevents

Only once before have the top four seeds all advanced to the semifinals of an ATP Masters Series event. That first happened in Cincinnati in 1999, when Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter, Andre Agassi, and Yevgeny Kafelnikov all made the last four.

I don't know about clay, but the commentators said something about cinci in 1999.

Heh, i forgot about that Ljubo's famous road to a semifinal with wins over numbers: 82, 131, 103, 79 and 95. But it was not his fault after all :)

Yes - that must have been the last time - RG'06

That's exactly the point, genius. If it weren't a weak era, other players would have made the semis, especially clay specialists.

I think he's saying that because it happens so extremely rarely, it's a sign of depth, and as such the era isn't weak.

But if that interferes with your trolling, I withdraw it.

Yeah. It's rare for me to agree with GM, and I'm not a fan of the weak era argument, but yours was a foolish comment zcess81. The top 4 making the semis backs the weak era viewpoint.

Unless you meant that the fact this happens so seldom disproves the weak era claim. In which case I agree whole-heartedly and am in the unusual situation of agreeing with you.

seriously, the gap between numbers 1-7 is not that big atm
anyone can beat anyone

but after #7 (Nalby) there is a big gap to Blake, Gasquet and the rest for now...

As for me, Nole and Davydenko are the best so far of 2008.

Blake vs. Nadal 3-2
Blake vs. Ferrer 1-0
Blake vs. Nalbandian 1-0
Blake vs. Davydenko 6-0

(Roddick 2-6, Federer 0-8 though)

No trolling here, just simple logic. Weak era.

@l_mac

Wow, this means that Sampras and Federer are won 14/12 slams only because they are play in weak era. I have think up to now that is because they are "simply the best"! How wrong am i being :retard:.

Blake is still crap though.

The last time I know of is Cincinnati 1999 where all the top 4 players reached the semi-finals.

at grand slams, the top 4 seeds thing is quite common though, i seem to remember.

AO '05 with Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin was also such a case. There are quite a few others just in post-2000 but i can't remember them.

Didn't Fish reach the finals in IW??? Didn't Sam reached quarters this week? Didn't Tsonga reach AO final? And all that happened recently. Lower ranked players reach finals/semis/quarters all the time...doesn't prove anything.
