It is sad about Rome, but given his record lately in regular events, much smarter to play challengers until he can get back up in the rankings.

He's 117 this week. Winning in Tunis should pull him up quite a bit (unless the way the rankings are done screw him yet again.).

As far as I'm concerned, he should just play challengers until after the grass season. Play clay challengers now, and then move his butt over to challengers on hardcourts after RG, and then move to the regular hardcourt circuit after Wimbledon so he'll be match ready against top players for the Olympics and the US Open.

As you can imagine, I'm sticking to my original argument. :haha:

He can gain the points in challengers between now and after Wimbledon.

Then he has to prepare on hardcourts for the Olympics and the US Open. He has done the clay thing every summer since I've started watchign him, and then it takes him until the US Open to get into hardcourt shape. It's insane. And he normally does very well at the US Open - best of all the Slams results-wise. Whether Nico likes it or not, hardcourts are his best surface. They are where he's gotten his best results. Time for him to put some effort in to get better there. These decision based on how he "feels" are annoying at best.

Tunis SF = 40 points (F 63 / W 90)

He must defend 90 points from Rome 07. I guess he won't climb in the rankings on monday. But he has nothing to defend after Rome on the other side, except 35 points from Roland Garros 07.

Good grief, he was so horrid last year, but he's still getting screwed over points wise.

So he has to win here just to not fall further down the rankings.

About the points ;)

Yes, he has more titles on clay, but his two best "big" results are in Madrid (a final on indoor hardcourt at a Masters Series event) and the Olympics (hardcourts).

And he's admitted that. He just says that he "prefers" clay over hardcourts because he feels more comfortable there. My point has always been that if he just would play hardcourts more, he'd get more comfortable there and get a few title there also.

it seems that the Rome points will be for the next week, this next monday we'll see the result between Tunis and the points from Munich :retard:

I agree with NicoFan, he should keep playing challengers on clay until RG and then more challengers, for once please forget about playing on grass or I'm going to kill him :armed:, and then start working really hard on hardcourts, challengers and then the US tour in hardcourts, 'cause I know that it's almost impossible to win a medal again in the olympics but it's going to be so sad to see him lose in the 1st or 2nd round there

and yes he has more titles on clay but he has the game for hardcourts and his great achievements have been on hardcourts he knows this and he keeps saying this, that's why he says that the USO is his fav GS event, so he better works hard this time to get ready first, for RG playing challengers in clay, and then playing whatever he can in hardcourts for the Olympics and the USO :yeah:

We don't know where he is going after Tunis. He was supposed to be qualifying in Rome this weekend but since he made the SFs in Tunis, he can't be in both places at once. So don't know if he'll try to get into another challenger next week or just take the week off.

It is disgusting. I am going to email atp and ask a simple question--why in today's world with the spectacular technology why can't there be live scores for any tournament that is considered professional.

They will probably tell too expensive, but i will be curious at there excuses.:mad:

Poor Nico...

Oh well - it least he finally got a couple wins in a row. Have to look at the bright side. :)

We'll find out on Monday what this does or doesn't do for his ranking. And if he's going to go to another challenger or not. I don't think he has a lot of choice on that - he's got all those Rome points to defend.
