What a screwed winning percentage on 1st vs. 2nd serves...

Again, 0 aces for Federer. Maybe it was still down to Monfils that Ivo was unable to hit an ace the previous round. That's twice in a row that good servers were reduced to rather low percentages...

easy boring match. anyways, why was Fed and Monfis smiling near the end? I couldn't see and they didn't show a replay. Federer came up with some lucky shot or something right? but what happened exactly

monfils' hair looks ridiculous. he must've left his fist-pumping temper along with his solid haircut at the barbershop. dull display by the frenchman, no problem for roger.

if monfils doesn't get fired up during matches, he's worth nothing.

Hehe, usually theres three threads open like a second after the winning ball hits the ground.

Anyway, I thought Federer played good, better than yesterday atleast. I hope he his form is getting better throughout the tournament.

Federer seemed to be OK, didn't depend on his serve at all, that's really a good sign I guess.

Monfils was playing 2 miles behind the baseline as usual, hitting as hard as he could, Federer missed some shots but not as many as yesterday and that's it.

Anyone know what happened in Monfils' last service game where they were both laughing about Monfils' shot? I was watching the MSTV feed, but the computer I was using is slow and I had to have it on a low resolution and couldn't see the ball half the time. From what I could make out, it just looked like a down the line winner.

Edit: NM, I see it's been answered.

Monfils is young, fast, and flexible. It might be hard to ace him on clay....
He can get his racquet on it...

Impressive from Federer. Continues to win whilst not playing at his best, sign of a great champion. Although Monfils doesn't have the kind of consistency to trouble him on clay.

Better than yesterday, that's it... But probably that's all you can expect from Federer these days. And tomorrow, he really should be "better than yesterday".

In this match was the first time I ever saw Federer play forehand dropshot! He did it twice, both times it was SUBLIME and won him direct point

Overall he looked much sharper than in previous match, although you could again notice that on clay he can't control the flow of the match as well as he does on other surfaces

That's more like it Feds. Less aggressive, but as a result, a lot less stupid UEs. Still plenty of them, though. :awww:

Monfils sort of handed Fed the match by his UEs and DFs.

Nice to see them both smiling btw.

Monfils was standing so far behind when returning serve..and he has really long arms
nearly impossible to hit an ace past him on clay

Better match than yesterday but still by no means great play from Federer, Monfils was too inconsistent and hit too many errors to make it a really tight match.

As for Gael, it's not easy to slide when you play 20 metres behind the baseline, which means in the sea.

Oh, I saw that bad miss Monfils made but didn't think it was worth smiling about.

Anyway, I thought Federer played pretty well. He started off solidly although tentatively but I felt like he got better as the match went on and started to play with more confidence. He wasn't really going for his shots as much as usual though.
