Don't know him, but of course... all the best to him! This sucks.

04-24-2008, 11:11 AM
ohh, Jamie :awww:

I was wondering why he was pulling out of the tournaments, and it seems serious, fortunately he will recover. He was making the transition futures-challengers and was the player of the month at ITF site in February

So sad, hopes he gets better

Here's another article. es_Baker_facing_long_recovery_period.php

Sounds really nasty, I'm so glad he's ok. hug: I like him a lot, I hope he makes a full recovery. It'll be sad if he'snot able to play Wimbledon, but better that he rests if he needs to.

04-24-2008, 11:52 AM
Get well soon Jamie

Does anyone know they exact virus? Was it staph? I have/had that and it's very infectious and can also be deadly.

04-24-2008, 02:11 PM
Wow, thats scary. Best of luck for a speedy return to full health Jamie :)

04-24-2008, 02:13 PM
In The Herald link that I posted at the bottom of the last page it explains a bit more what the virus was. :)

04-24-2008, 02:15 PM
saw him play once. all the best jamie. my uncle just got out of intensive care as well. hope you he makes a good recovery.

04-24-2008, 03:47 PM
When I saw him in Indian Wells, he was coughing and blowing his nose badly during his match. :scared:

Wishing him speedy recovery.

04-24-2008, 04:44 PM
That's such a shame, he was starting to kick on too

Get well soon!

According the second article it's been three weeks since he was intensive care, and he has been recovering.

The article describes him being given (cortico-)steroids, which is a strong anti-inflammatory drug used to treat auto-immune diseases. That probably means that the presumed virus may caused his immune system to attack the platelets in his blood. It also means he could be suspectible to other auto-immune syndromes if it is a chronic condition, I certainly hope he will play competitive tennis again.

OMG! Get well soon Jamie :awww:

04-24-2008, 10:45 PM
All the best Jamie  Hopefully this won't halt his rise too much as he has been doing pretty well recently.

04-24-2008, 10:49 PM

Jamie Baker is back playing, he is in Australia playing Futures events, last week he made the final in Darwin and he made another final this weekend.

The last event before he was in Thailand won it as a qualifier.
