Easy, expected. What a friends!!!

Novak gave Ljuba first serve, at the end they changed shirts (like footballers). Glad to see that.

the changing of shirts and the hug were nice, better than nowadays when you mostly just see people just touch palms for less than a second

Pretty good match from Djokovic for a first time on clay. Some shocking errors (especially at the net :help:) but also some very good shots and he played the big points well. Ljubo showed some good BHs but was standing WAY too far back to trouble Djokovic especially considering his poor defense on the FH side

Pretty ugly match, but I didn't expect that much to be honest.
I could barely watch the 1st set with all that electricity problems, as if the camera angles weren't enough of a drag..

Very nice from both of them at the end, but they're good friends off the court, so it's no surprise.:)

Well done Novak, keep it up.

Much closer than the score suggests. Well done Nole.

It was only close till 3/3 in the first set!
After that Djokovic didn't have any problems even though he had to save couple of break points.
Ivan is hopeless so far from the baseline!

Great to see Nole mixing it up on clay, adjusting his usual game for the surface.

Ljubicic was pretty awful, but he had a lot of chances, even though he played 30 feet behind the baseline

I actually found the match boring. =/ really
ridiculous unforced errors from both of them. the difference was that in the crucial moments Djokovic didn't fail.
Still, that's the first mtach on clay. Let's hope he can improve.

I was encouraged by the way Djokovic played, and loved that he looked to come in when he could and stayed glued to the baseline. I do think his stamina is suspect, and a good clay courter can take advantage. We'll have to see what happens in later rounds. Who does he play next? I haven't looked at the draw. :o

I like Cro players a lot (Ancic esspecially) but Ljuba seems loose his spirit often (I would say). When he start to lose....that is the end usually.

The country where the tournament is held doesn't have live streamings. It's that easy. As this tournament happens in France (considering that Monaco is France) you cant watch it.

It's the same for footbal, I can watch the Spanish league here from Portugal, but I cant watch my team playing.

Too bad I couldn't watch the second set. But from what I saw in the first one I felt like he was always in a total control and I am sure in one thing I said previously: Djoker has definitely learned how to play and give as much effort only as it is needed and no more. I am really surprised by the level of confidence he gained in 1 year to dare playing in that manner.

It's only safe when he does it against people he's played against before. He tried it on Anderson and got a bad result. He also tried it on Wawrinka (IW), Fish and Tsonga and also did not perform as well as against better players, although at least in those cases he won.

I don't know if the tactic is derived from laziness or there's a broader strategy of conserving mental energy for the all out assault in the semis and finals against Roger and Rafa.

That kind of play conserves every kind of energy and leaves you with full tank when it is needed the most, but requires being calm all the time, besides having superior skills and was shown in a match against Anderson. Once he lost his calmness(incident thing) he lost the match.

Murray or Volandri.

I'm suprised to see Nole fan pleased he came to net, he's awful at the net

You never seem to check his net point stats. When he's on and playing his game, he regularly outdoes "proven good" net players - e.g. he did better than both Fed and Tsonga in Melbourne.

Sure, when he misses a volley, it usually looks painfully stupid, but in the big picture you have no case.

Back to the topic: I think Nole's looking good on clay (certainly much more competent than last year), and expect great competitiveness in the following rounds.

Interesting to hear they are friends, I couldn't think of two guys more different. Nole is much younger, and such a show off, while Ivan is definitly a serious guy.
They shared a coach a few years ago, did they not? From everything I've read about Ivan he seems a nice guy off the court - very popular with all the players

Oh God. I knew you'd be back in time for Nole vs Murray :sobbing: :p
