to anyone who hasn't seen Gael play in a while and was wondering about his court positioning. well when he had break point at 2-2 in the 2nd set he swung at the ball and took out the fuzzy microphone at the back of the court.
Same again when he had a bp at 4-4. he ended up running along the court cover that was bunched up against the back wall and had to stop to avoid the running into the linesman's chair.

If he'd had his way the south stand would be off the coast of Corsica to give him enough room to work with.

Really solid for the most part throughout the match, especially when serving, while Verdasco just crumbled at the worst times to get broken. Can't say I'm particularly sorry about that since the Spaniard is very much on my naughty list - no, not that one pervs :p - but credit to the Frenchman for making the most of his break opportunities and giving the 'home' crowd something to cheer about :D

Yes, Monfils was still playing from waaay back for much of the match :o Still, he had quite a few nice attacking moments and I could almost swear he stepped inside the baseline more often today than when I last saw him against Davydenko at Wimbledon :confused:

I thought Monfils was going to be something special after his stellar junior career. But you see him on the court and your thought is...this is not a natural tennis player. Can somebody drill him on attacking tactics? or is too late?

Verdasco wasn't just able to outhit Gael properly. Monfils was just hitting the ball back every time, plus his serving in the last game was just fantastic. And this smash - nice way to finish the match

Between the constantly freezing 7x5cm Bet365 screen (yes, I measured with a ruler, and it only increased by a couple more either way when I changed my screen resolution), updating the livescore thread and the fact that two years of high school French didn't stick at all, I was left wondering what Monfils' running dialogue with the umpire was all about :scratch: Thanks for clearing it up - now if only his coach (or anyone really) would do him the same favour once and for all...

I'm glad Gael won, even if it was at the expense of Verdasco. I like the crazy dude, even if 95% of the time it looks like he doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing. :silly: Rafa ain't got shit on Monfils in terms of how far back they play. Monfils is almost completly out of the frame on just about every point.
