Does anyone really believe that Blake deserves his ranking?

IMO it is severely inflated.

But maybe there's someone out there who has some insight to James I'm not seeing.

his ranking was determined using the same system that ranks everyone else.

so, if it seems a bit inflated...[fill in the blank]...

Yeah, he deserves it and why shouldn't he? He earns the points you know. If he just sat in his ass not playing or losing every match he went into, he would lose ranking thereafter.

Everybody deserves his ranking as long as he doesn't cheat.

Yep, for reasons already mentioned. Yeah, he sucks on clay, but the majority of tournaments are played on hardcourts under the current system and Blake's pretty much a specialist.

No, Blake is crap.

You mean the ATP is secretly giving him extra points without anybody noticing?

Blake has his particular brand to the way he plays that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't but the results affirm that he's doing a pretty good job overall. He's true to himself, and I like that about him.

Of course he bloody deserves it...were you asleep when he registered QF results in ALL mandatories so far this season? If anything, he is stronger than ever (if you forget Nishikori and Granollers-Pujol :o).

He deserves to be a stable top 5.

In mugs ranking.

Simple true. Of course he does - he wasn't donated points. Blake won it on court.

He totally deserves it like anyone another in ATP tour! He`s got a realy solid year, reaching AUS Open, IW and Miami quaterfinals losing only to Federer and Nadal + two other atp finals despite of losses to japanese kid and unknown spaniard...

Why doesn't he deserve it? His ranking is made up the same as anybody else's, these threads are stupid.

If Boredo can make top 10, then Flake should be world no 1.

I don't know guys.
This is what I see.

He's only beat two top twenty players in ATP tournis in 8 months.

He's lost in two tournaments in the US in which he didn't play one top 100 player, San Jose and Delray Beach.
It might as well have been a challenger tournament.

He's lost in two finals against players ranked outside the top 75.

Even if he did win Houston, does anyone feel that the tournament deserves the same amount of points as Estoril which has been historically one of the tougher lower tier clay tournaments?

If being ranked in the world means being the 8th best player in the world, do these things reflect being the 8th best player in the world?
He hasn't lost before a QF since Sydney but 3 tournaments have been slams or Master Series, another other three have been International Series tournaments with really no top players, and then there was Syndey which was a international series with some top players.

no. hes lost 2 finals to mainly unknown players in 2008 that is bad.

hes played better than gasquet and berdych and they are in the top 10 and theres a pretty good chance hes won more matches this year than federer and ferrer. im sure if blake had the luxury of his opponent choking a double break lead in the final set or retiring he would have a title too

That's where the bulk of the points are and he's getting them. Doesn't matter who he loses to in optional finals if he keeps putting up results in the required events.

I cannot stand the hype around the guy nor his on court personality. Only Roddick is worse. But he deserves his ranking.

Blake's ranking is based on the previous 52 weeks. Obviously he's had some good results in that period of time. Thankfully, the ATP points system rewards some amount of consistency and results by using the 52 week system. If James doesn't continue to put up the results, he will slip down the rankings, and rightfully so.

It's so neat-o when things work out the way they should.

Everybody deserves the ranking they have. James earned every point he has just as everyone else has done. I'm not a fan, but it's crazy to say someone doesn't deserve the ranking they have.

People only seem to complain about this if they're not fond of the player in question. Every player deserves the ranking points they earn, regardless of how much you dislike them.

Oops! You already said it! :tape:

I'm no Blake fan, but the only thing he's guilty of is choosing his events wisely in order to attain his ranking.

Stupid thread, the same one about Blake was posted a few months ago. Same consensus as last time, a player deserves the ranking that they have earned!

A lot of his points do come from tiny events and wins over lesser quality opponents, but those options are open to all the other players, as well.

I don't think he's a top ten guy in terms of talent, though.
