I thought for sure he was done after he choked it at 5-4 so badly, so I went to do some laundry and came back and he won. Good for him I guess, but pretty poor from Blake for the most part

James just couldn't win a clay court title. Even on 'fake clay'.

Very smart choice to play in Houston with a weak field on slow clay -- in Valencia he probably wouldn't have had a chance.

James, seriously, you need help. Losing this one after blowing through the second set and getting up 3-0 in the third. You're pathetic! How anyone expects him to do well at the French this year is beyond me.

no surprise.
james got punked by frenchies, serra and benneteau, last year at home (indian wells/miami)
now he gets punked by no name japanese and spanish players at home (miami/houston).

I guess from now on, every young player who has yet to make any mark on the ATP tour at all, is going to start having fantasies about making the final of an ATP tournament and then discovering their opponent is none other than James Blake.

First loses to unknown Nishikori, then loses to unknown Granollers:eek: Blake can't handle being the favorite in those finals it seems:confused:IMO, this one is worse than Nishikori.... Nishikori's game is more powerful than Granollers's, he just woke up and went on a hot streak and took the match away from James. This one was more James's fault IMO. He missed so many balls he should've made and usually makes and he didn't return up to his standards. Granollers fought til the end and deserves all the credit in the world especially after his pretty major choke serving at 5*-4. If I were James I'd kick myself over this one for a while...

Oh the comedy never stops with James Blake around :)Truer words have never been spoken

Nice effort for Marcel to get his first ATP title, as for James, it is hard to imagine him winning a clay title (at the ATP level) if he couldn't do it in Houston with this field.

Bernard Black

Blake is always second favourite when faced with a competent player on clay. People should know this by now.

ServeAlready81
04-21-2008, 03:11 AM
James did pretty well in this tournament considering how badly he sucks on clay. Yes he's bad enough to lose to a no-name SPANIARD on clay.

And enough with the "Blake sucks", "Blake is a mug" crap. Say something new and innovative if you're going to talk crap about someone who's accomplished a lot in 28 years.

Spain could put Granollers Pujol, Ventura, Hernandez and Garcia Lopez in the Davis Cup semis and they would still beat the US 4-1.

If by "fake" you mean "green", it wasn't.

If by "fake" you mean "red clay not on a court in Europe", it was. :)

It was a pretty entertaing match. I caught the last half last night. It's always fun to see a guy win his first tournament. Granollers was pretty restrained about it though. :)

River Oaks is a nice place. Loved the shots of the live oaks.

Well... What should we say about Paul-Henri Mathieu then :)
You're going too hard with James. After all he's well known for not being good on clay, the guy doesn't spin at all ! Reaching the final was already an achievement.
