How many matches will Nadal lose on clay in 2008?

What do you think? Will he remain to be the clay god?

Last year he lost only once - to Fed in Hamburg, he had nothing left in the tank they said later.
Can he go unbeaten this year or there are some surprises waiting for him?

I say he'll lose one, it's 2008 afterall. :)

he can't lose more than 5 matches as he will only play 5 tournaments! (unless you're also counting his doubles matches)

How about those MM clay tournaments after wimbledon (i think they are called Gastaad, Bastaad and Stuttgaad).

I think this is a not too unrealistic scenario:

Nadal wins Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Rome and then wisely decides to skip Hamburg having played 3 weeks in a row. He'll then go on to win RG. That's zero losses on clay, then.

MonteCarlo, Barcelona, Rome, Hamburg and Roland Garros. I think! I could be wrong though.

It doesn't matter. This is actually a more interesting thread than the one "Montecarlo's contender". We all know what everyone is going to say: Nadal.

Though I can't rationalize it, "2" is my gut feeling. I don't think Fed can take RG from him this year, and I don't think anyone else is ready to take 3 from him on red. He would have to be in really bad form to lose Monte Carlo, and I don't think the field will be strong enough to get an upset at Barcelona. Anything after RG is his by lack of competition.

That leaves Rome and Hamburg. I think he will lose at Rome. Fed has already pushed him there, as has Davydenko. Going deep will mean three weeks in a row, and I think that at that stage, either of these guys, or Djoke, will get him.

I can't really predict anything about Hamburg as I've no idea who will show up and in what form. If Fed and Djoke both show up in good form, I think he could be beaten again. I'm not sure that Rafa will even be there though.

My prediction:

MC: W
Barcelona: W
Rome: SF (loss to Djoke or Davydenko)
Hamburg: F (loss to Djoke)
RG: W

One. At Rome. If he wins there I think he'll drop Hamburg this year and as such lose none on clay.

I don`t understand why so many players give so much credit to Djokovic on clay. There is absolutely nothing that suggest he is in that great of a shape. He hasn`t played a match for some time.

He will lose one match against Nalbandian, maybe the finale, in RG surely

and maybe also in Rome with Djokovic, because the clay there is very speedy

after seeing his draw in rome, i think nadal can win it

assume he withdraw from hamburg, he probably wont lose any match on clay this year

otherwise, he will lose 1 match in hamburg, before he reaches SF..... so not to federer or djokovic....

Uh, no. Rome is actually the fasest of the European clay events.

Federer and Davydenko definitely have chances there. Not sure about Djokovic though.

No it is one of the fastest along with the RG.
Hamburg is the slowest, and I think also Munich was a slow one.

There is no such a thing as a friendship on a tennis court. Off a court it is OK, but on the court believe me there is no such a thing.
