Agree - stamina is not his strong point! Can only assume it's because of the Olympics but in that case surely he should play with Zimonjic.

I agree. He didn't play in Estoril, and I believe will not be in Munich/Barcelona either, so he is just getting clay practrice in when he can, while still alllowing himself the occasional week off in-between big tournaments. I actually think it's quite a smart decision - though I'm not sure about Sexy Radek

He has indeed, he and Radek got to the finals of Adelaide in 2007, lost 4-6 6-3 13-15 to Moodie/Perry.

Okay that's the only time. I could have sworn they'd partnered up other times too though :p

But hey, it's a successful pairing ;)

He also played doubles last year in Monte Carlo with Verdasco, but lost in the first round to the Bryans. While it might make the most sense to play with Zimonjic for the Olympics I don't think it makes much sense career wise for Zimonjic since he makes his living playing doubles.

Patient Djokovic ready for claycourt season
By Julien Pretot
MONTE CARLO, April 20 (Reuters) - Serb Novak Djokovic said on Sunday he was better prepared than last year going into the claycourt season, which he will start at the Monte Carlo Masters Series.
The world number three, who claimed his maiden grand slam tournament at this year's Australian Open, said he had gained the patience needed for sometimes exhausting matches on the slow surface.
"I think I am stronger than last year because I am more confident. I have won a grand slam, even though it was not on clay," Djokovic told reporters.
"These past months, my form has been going up, except for Miami. I have been playing at a high level."
Djokovic, 20, will face either three-times French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten or Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic in the second round after being awarded a bye for the first round.
He said his second-round exit at the hands of South African Kevin Anderson at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month might have been beneficial.
"I've had more days to recover and work on things I never had time to work on. I've had more time to prepare for the clay season," he said.
"The approach of matches on this surface is ... different. If you change your game too much, it can turn against you."
Djokovic added he was now mentally strong enough to cope with the demands of claycourt tennis.
"You have to be more patient and I am more patient than in the past years," he said.
"You have to be mentally strong, it takes more time to create points and you have to wait for your chances. You also have to be physically very fit to do that.
"It's what I have been working on in the past two weeks."
Djokovic added he would probably be more able to deliver at the French Open next month: "The French Open clay is faster, it suits my game better."
However, he was not too optimistic about his chances of lifting the trophy at Roland Garros.
"I am facing two players (Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal) who are very consistent. And the truth is that Rafa plays his best game on clay," he said. (Editing by Sonia Oxley)

Sorry for delay in replying - I'm at work, so shouldn't really be on MTF at all :o Well Jamie (my ex) came from the Highlands, so he was very dark with blue eyes - typically Celtic looking I guess, - his accent was almost more Irish than Scottish. Sexy and handsome he was - but, unfortunately as I said before - a total b**tard  He put me off Scottish men for life - which is totally stupid I know, but can't help it

Murray is a pretty typical Scot looks-wise - we are not renowned for our beauty I'm afraid.

There are loads of Scottish men who are pretty :hearts:

I will start with James McAvoy, and I will say that even if there is not a single other pretty Scottish man, that he makes up for everyone else :rolls:

Oh, and Sean Biggerstaff. Also hot. He could teach me about Quidditch any time. :aplot:

Not to mention all the other attractive guys I saw while I was there.

Nope, I am not buying it. When I think of Scotland I think of good looking guys. I think Jamie Murray is pretty cute too :)

Is that some sort of joke or what? :o Luckily there's no Sharapova in Monte Carlo.

It's probably not a joke :) A few years ago, when I was staying in Monte Carlo, my friends and I were staying in the Players' Hotel, and we ended up being invited to the Players' Party. There is a tradition at that particular party, of some players getting together and performing a kind of cabaret or entertainment of some kind - the year when I was there they held a "Beauty Contest" with various players dressed in "drag" as Miss Russia, Miss Argentina etc It was hilarious  So if they are still doing such things, then Nole singing would seem quite in keeping with the occasion.

And - before anyone asks - no I don't have any photos from my party experience. I didn't take a camera, because I thought it was a bit "disrespectful" to be invited to a party and then spend hours taking photos of the other guests in their private time. It was fun though!

Herdwick
04-24-2008, 08:10 AM
Oh I quite believe it - I think I read somewhere that he dressed up in drag last year for the same event. Unfortunately he also lost in the third round and we don't want a repeat this year. He's had his early exit this year in Miami so no further lapses permitted.

TCL - nice life you've got by the way.

:) Well I don't do stuff like that every day - and the Hotel we were staying in wasn't the really ridiculously expensive one they use at Monte Carlo nowadays. But I've always believed that life was for living and you can't take your money with you - so why not enjoy it :)

Am I the only one that think Nole did not play that well?

Murray played really bad in the first set with no energy. Nole lost his focus early 2nd set and Murray tightened his game and be a little more agressive. And I can't believe Murray lost it that easily because of the point to make it 40-0 at 4-4 2nd set. The ball was long from Novak, no call from the line but Murray walked on the mark, thus the umpire could not check on it. Then he showed no life at all serving to stay in the match and DFs the last 2 points :tape:

*Ljubica*
04-24-2008, 03:20 PM

Herdwick
04-24-2008, 03:28 PM
Thoought Nole was superb in the first set, apart from his serve and the usual couple of dropshots of death, nailing everything into the corners. He went off momentarily at the start of the 2nd but then came back strongly. Murray was a big letdown; totally clueless and sulky; I really did expect far more from him today. He is turning into the eternal disappointment, a bit like Gasquet.

Although Gasquet is looking pretty good at present but then I don't rate Querrey at all.

04-24-2008, 03:44 PM
Yeh im angry at nole, hes playing almost like hes on a hard court, not spreadin the opponent across the court with those deep cross court shots right in the corner to keep them back behind the baseline, then again he did do that quite a bit in the first shot, the depth was spectacular but still I dont feel comfortable seeing players hit down the line too much on clay, Im a nalby fan too and i feel so much more comfortable watching him right now even though hes not striking the ball as well as nole and hes been injured but like his game looks a hell of a lot less taxing, hes like agassi, he takes 3 steps in the entire match pretty much and the opponent is doing all the running for both of them, hes in complete control and hes not even taking big risks...

I just hope nole continues to work on using those really deep cross court shots right in the corner, its so much more efficient, less energy lower risk everything, even though he is amazingly talented and can consistently pull off those low risk shots with ease.

I dunno if rafa will make the final this year with that match thrower Koyla in his half, he threw that estoril match and now look at how hes playing, i think hed be tough to beat in the finals for Nole also, but yeh i think Ferrer is a danger and koyla may take out Rafa too so if Nole makes the final he may not face him. At the start of the tournament I predicted the semis to be Nalbandian vs. Djokovic and Davydenko vs. Nadal. Though Andreev's creeping up on them and I didn't think he'd get past R2.

The fact that he should have no problem makes me nervous. Novak doesn't like big servers and Querrey is playing better than I thought he would. He seems to be getting more comfortable as the match goes on. The fact that all four top seeds would be in the semis if Novak wins also makes me nervous because it seems like atleast one upset would have to occur. I still believe Novak will win, though.

Notes to Nole: no matter who's your opponent, there is no unlimited supply of breakpoint for you to squander.

Novak seems to be getting tighter as the match goes on. He needs to break here to relax.

0 for 6 and not even because of Sam came up with a big first serve. :smash:

And finally because of UE by Sam :p

I hate big tall players who do well just because they are big and tall. Atleast Safin in his day and Berdych when his head is together can play good tennis.

Much more comfy in the second. Roll on tomorrow.

Shall now dream of Nole taking out Fed (and a fully fit one after today's showing so no excuses please) in the semis and Rafa in the final - thereby re-writing the accepted world order. Celebratory bottle of red beckons.

I don't think Sam has anything that can hurt Nole on any surface, Nole should win in straight sets.

Bah. I remember the days you were a diehard Fat Dahveed fan.

P.Antonius is an otaku. No point in wasting any time on him.

I was indeed a Fat D fan many moons ago - and then I got to know him, and saw the light ;)

Sam :inlove: Actually I like him - the kid has got heart and character. I wish him well in his career.

PS: :secret: What's an "otaku" :o

What a nice dream :) Btw - did you manage to see the end of the match? I thought of you when Sky's coverage switched to SS Extra at 6.00pm. Can you get that with your Virgin coverage or not?

Yeah - we get all 4 Sky channels thanks- it's just the red button of which we are deprived. OH is now seriously talking of a Sky dish though because he's found Sky are remaking Blake's 7 (:rolleyes:yes I know - he's very sad - he's also a DBA so there's no hope).

Have decided on a nice Claret - I shall drink Nole's and your collective healths (and a kick in the balls to P.Antonius).

Americanized Japanese word (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=otaku) for a loser shut-in who plays video games all day long.

Indeed - was a great match. I had the day off today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Federer seems back to his best level, and I've always been a bit of a closet FedTard :o so I'm pleased for it. :secret: And of course it's always good to see a Fat Dave loss :o :secret:

 Saw your post in the Fed forum!

Glad you got to see Roger's match. I didn't; I was sleeping. It's my week off from school  I actually woke up at the tail end of the last set and caught the last game on livestream. Fed broke at love so it was only four points

Anyway, back to Nole talk.

 If Nole wins, all the top 4 seeds remain in SF. I haven't seen something like this for a long time in big or small tournaments.

On the ATP website it said it was only the second time ever in a Masters Series that this happened. I think it happened at Roland Garros a few years ago...06 maybe?

Novak better win tomorrow/today or else I will be mad. Roger does not deserve to be in the finals after that crapfest in his opening round.

I like both Kolya and Rafa, so . I guess better Kolya than Rafa for Nole in the finals. (Whoa I usually don't use nicknames like that when I post)

Maybe a bit of pressure to follow through with another defeat of Roger? There's probably a bit of "Well I've done it in a GS, why not here?" I don't know how much of it is that, there are probably other things...I hear Fed's not playing to shabby
