Federer has two fairly easy rounds, but then has Nalbandian in the quarters and Djokovic in the semis. Not easy.

Nadal face good players, but is too good on clay to be bothered. At least until the semis where Almagro or Davydenko might pose a few problems.

Ljubo should beat Kuerten IMO. But he's out 2nd round :(
If Ivo's knee is fine now he might beat Grosjean, but probably out in 2nd round too...
Cilic might make the third round and there's Davydenko and Marin has beaten him before :D
I can't wait for Ancic-Nadal match :D

djokovic-murray...great stuff! :) this might be the first time that i'm really rooting for the scot.

will be sad to see haas getting crushed by nalbandian though. gasquet could have quite a run if he pulls himself together - until he faces djokovic in the semis. kohlschreiber's draw is pretty alright as well once he gets past acasuso.

Should be an interesting tournament.

quarter final picks:

Federer - Nalbandian (Federer will hope that Robredo or Haas takes him out)
Djokovic - Moya
Almagro - Davydenko
Nadal - ?? (should be Ferrer, but he's not playing well at all)

No, it's just over the top pessimism, when there is no reason to be. I know Ancic is no clay clown and he has shown that quite a few times, but even then it's not like Nadal is some chump and the match up favours him anyway.

I believe this particular breed of pessimism is in fact natural here on MTF. It is caused by all the obnoxious gloating by the opposing camps, and people sorta try to envision the worst case scenario so that they handle the blow easier. :) People can be reeeeaaaly nasty in their comments here... when I first joined MTF I even had this silly and naive idea that it could ever change...

No, it's just clownishness, especially for a guy who has hardly lost a match on clay since 2005. If it was fans of Lisnard ( they do exist somewhere outside of his family) or someone who doesn't win very often, then it makes a lot more sense.

You learn pretty quickly, what this place is about.

The draw is not favorable to Federer. First of all, rarely does he win two tournaments in a row in a 14 day period but then he is faced with the potenial sequence of matches - Nalbandian QF, Nole SF and Rafa F - the task seems a bit too tough... I don't even think he will beat Nalbandian....

i think we'll have a surprise semifinal contender coming from the davydenko quarter. could be almagro or monaco, even andreev might have a chance there. but then again, having those names finally in a clay masters semifinal is hardly surprising, to be honest; it's about time.

When was the last time Nalby made a major impact in a Masters Series on clay? He did come close to beating Roger in the semis in Rome on clay in two years ago, but other than that what exactly has he done in the last couple years? Therefore - and despite the fact that I'd love to see Nalby do well and beat Federer - it is a huge stretch thinking he'll find his Paris/Madrid level just in time for this tourney.;)

Not to mention he's got nemesis Wawrinka in his quarter as well..

How do you mean? Lisnard fans (if any ) certainly have no reason to worry about anyone's nastiness - it's not like there is an anti-Lisnard league here at MTF who's gonna drag his name till the doomsday. No, it's particularly the favourites that attract the worst barrage.

And yes, Nadal is clearly the overwhelming favourite, but then again, Fed won 40+ matches against Americans and then lost 2 in a row. Would you really expect Fish to beat Fed 6-3 6-2? Bottom line is, anything can happen - the fact that there is a low probability of it happening, is offset by the expected unearthly barrage of gloating if it should indeed happen.

I'm not sure if I said it clear enough - consider flying for example. There is a far greater chance for a car crash than an airplane crash - but if an airplane crashes most likely everyone aboard will die, whereas if you bump into something with your car there's a probability you won't even get a scratch. So it's reasonable, actually, to be more afraid of flying than driving a car.

This part of draw is very interesting for me:

[12]T. Robredo vs S. Wawrinka
R. Stepanek vs R. Soderling
T. Haas vs Q
Bye vs [6]D. Nalbandian[6]

Another duel of Nalbandian-Soderling would be very exciting however it is not predictable at this time that Soderling will win his first 2 matches .

Nadal should win this tournament. I hope.

Gasquet-Santoro sounds good. If he wins , Gasquet could reach the quarter to play against Murray/Djokovic (there are not clay specialists in their quarter).

Davydenko draws his nemesis Chela.

No Roddick, Blake?
Will they ever play a Clay TMS(or 1000 series...) again?
If they don't have injury, they can just choose not to play?
Or do I just miss something?

Roddick/Blake are clowns for avoiding the clay masters.

There were 2 matches I wanted to see here: Djokovic-Almagro and Nadal-Nalbandian. Ok, 3, add Djokovic-Federer. It is very unlikely I will get either one of those.

 Nalbos quarter

If it's Mahut he will.

If it's Volandri he'll be 3-6 1-3* down and then his odds will shoot up and he'll be overwhelming favourite and he'll win 3-6 7-5 6-3 in a fixed contest.

toughest quarter ever.. it is not predictable nalbo would beat haas either.. 0-3 in H2H :o and never even close of beating the german  besides he is still a bit worn off from DC + IW.. im not sure he is 100% recovered

You're talking as if Haas would beat the Q...no **** way! :haha:

Gicquel, Lapentti, Montanes, Vliegen, Minar, Benneteau would all beat the shit out of him.

All players in the top 7 have won at least 1 title in 2008. Except for Nadal....

Federer
Djokovic
Davydenko
Ferrer
Roddick
Nalbandian

Nadal will be in deep doodoo if he doesn't win MC.

What are the chances of Stepanek and Nalbandian being in the same section of the draw at three consecutive MS tournaments? This time with Haas as well.

It will be Rochus in 2nd round , not Haas.
