FAST losing patience with the LTA, BBC, whatever

From one of my favourite tennis journalists, Neil Harman: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/tennis/article3761107.ece :worship:

The essence of the article:

"...how much of the sport there will be to commentate on besides the Wimbledon Championships in years to come is a matter that is occupying minds at the LTA:"

My interpretation, and I hope some of this is an overreaction.

- implication that Queen's tennis might no longer be covered by the BBC from 2009 / 2010. :retard: In my opinion, this event provides an important "warning" to the average British sports fan (NOT particular tennis fan) that Wimbledon is almost upon us. Besides, this is a hugely important part of the sporting year, for Christ's sake. :hysteric:

- Albert Hall coverage dropped. :retard: A number won't be all that bothered (can't say I am), but this will hit plenty of others. So, we finally get it recognised as THE event of the Seniors Tour, a perfect finale to their season, and we drop it off the TVs of the majority of UK viewers? :retard:

- "Any future deal between the BBC and the LTA - which has hired Sunset+Vine to produce the coverage for the pre-Wimbledon grass-court events - will be outside the contract between the All England Club and the BBC." :retard: What the hell is that, and who are Sunset+Vine?

- "Although the BBC recently signed a five-year extension to its Wimbledon contract to remain host broadcaster until 2014 and has three years on its Davis Cup deal..." Don't even think about dropping the Davis Cup! If we're trying to encourage more kids to take up the sport, and move the older kids into competition, this is NOT the way to go about it.

...if this is the way that the broadcasting (of lack of) of our events is going to go, how the hell are we to convince the average resident of the UK that anything other than Wimbledon matters? :retard:

its a joke that the BBC could even consider dropping coverage of the very limited tennis they show. it seems to me like their priorities have changed and they want to broadcast different events

Roger Draper, the LTA chief executive, said yesterday: “While we have had some success recently, it is vital we start to identify younger players who are capable of thriving in a Davis Cup environment.”

no one in this country is going to fucking play the sport if they dont show it on the bloody tele

The BBC is having budget problems aren't they? Perhaps that is part of their decision making, along with the ratings. How popular is tennis in England during the month of June and how popular was that Albert Hall event? If they don't see the numbers, they'll give up on it just like ESPN did here in the states.
