Could Forget, as DC captain, have actually done this?

This comes an interview of Francis Gasquet, Richard's father. He says this:

...If Mathieu had converted one of his MP against Blake on Friday, we would have been 2-2 before the 5th match and I think, without any flattery that Richard would have beaten Blake in the decisive match. He would have been praised by the medias and everybody would have talked about a turning point in his career.

If PHM had beaten Andy on Sunday, it would have been 2-2 and there would be one more live rubber. Could Forget have replaced Llodra with Gasquet for that decider, even though it would have been #1 vs #2 instead of #2 vs #2?

Doesn't matter, Llodra would have beaten Blake on sunday, not Gasgay.

Could have, would have, should have.

Didn't.

But why is this allowed? It's like, just in case, I can sub in my top player against your second player so I have an automatic advantage in the 5th rubber.

he wasn't the top player anymore. PHM was. the #1 player distinction is based on who plays on Friday, i think.

Gasquet said he was prepared to fight like crazy to win a decisive fifth rubber, but it was a dead one. Looks more like he gambled and lost big time.
