thanks, jiat and denise. I have seen a message on theguyfromrussia.com said:

Official News : 1st July 2004
Marat's goal is the US Open and as it is a long summer, including the Olympics, he will start easy and build up to it [US Open] slowly - that's his main focus.

Tentative Schedule for Summer 2004:

Withdraw from Mercedes-Benz Cup, LA
1 month vacation (in Alaska ?)
Toronto : 26th July
Cincinnatti: 2nd August
Olympics: 9th August
US Open: 30th August

It's been suggested that Marat will avoid 'minor' tournaments this summer to avoid tiring himself. This schedule is not definite, it's just a guideline.

so, which means that he'll play in LA even being a "small" tournie???

u welcome june ;)

I don't think he will play in LA. instead, he will have a one-month vacation!

If this is the definete scedule....well.
Again long vacations for Marat. LOL! Well, maybe it can help him to find his desire for tennis back.

But I don`t think it`s smart to only concentrate on the big tourneys. In my opinion he should play some small events, and if he wins one it would be very, very good for his confidence and probably a keypoint. He hasn`t won a tourney since 2002 and he doesn`t seem to bother about it  He is only talking about gaining points and bla bla, but he needs the feeling back of WINNING something and then i believe it will turn around.
But after his logic probably, he will suddenly have a great week, play from the down, and win a big tourney... ok might very well happen with M A R A T, but WHEN?
Anyway he should know what to do and lets hope for the best.

Look at what happened to Lleyton when he decided to play less tournaments, that's all I need to say

oh...I think it's only a tentative schedule...although I have the feeling that the real schedule might be worse...
I agree with u, andrea! the feeling of winning is really important to marat. winning a tournament might be a choke point to him! so whether the tournament is small or not, victory makes for his confidence and all the things!
what we can do is waiting and support...hope he makes decisions with his head!

:haha: I love a comparison between Mr. Obsessive and Mr. Idontgiveashit!
I get what you mean though. It's hella hard performing well (let's not even talk winning) on the big tournaments. But what the hey, let's give it a shot!

Haha, it's not funny really! He won't be able to win a BIG tourney after such a long break (look at AO!!! and all the draws he's had this year b/c of his ranking which is going to drop now even more!) and without playing in some smaller tourneys, no way!

Merle, he came pretty damn close at the AO, didn't he? And his ranking isn't going to drop this year as he has nothing to defend, although obiously he will get passed by others if he underperforms.

I'm not saying "no way" cause on the other hand we have to admit that Marat hasn't been able to play tennis for long amounts of time without getting sick of it (I guess winning some tournies would "ease" that though). And chances are with playing smaller tournaments before a big one, he runs out of mental gas. The beginning of the year was ideal of course, 1 small no pressure tournament where he does well, some time off/practice and then AO. I'm hoping for a fresh start when he gets back. But with a trophy in his hands, it's about fucking time!

But I guess ANY tournament will do, when it comes to that trophyholding so that's another argument for playing smaller tournaments. Time is long overdue. He needs it. Hard.

Completely agree with you on that!
But about his ranking - it won't go up when he'll lose like 1st rd or smth at the American TMS events & US Open with bad draws and bad preparation! I hope of course that he'll get great draws everywhere and will be in top form & motivated back from his "vacation" so he is able to go all the way to the title this time! I haven't given up on him just yet!
On the other hand so many back-to-back weeks playing will be hard, IF he'll get far of course! So from this point the vacation is a right thing, but that's exactly the point - WILL he get far in these big events in the first place? Some early losses may make him dispirited again! So here we go! Better just to wait and see I guess!
