Are you better than Xristos?

Don't worry, you don't have to answer that question. Seriously, who have you beaten in the last six months? If the answer is 'no one' or 'no one who is ranked' than don't even think of playing in Futures because you will get your ass kicked. Play some local tournaments (juniors, opens, whatever) then try some Futures events.

You will not get a profile on the ATP Website until you win matches and earn points. Read this:

http://www.itftennis.com/mens/startingout/

then read all the pages linked on the left side. That's a good place to start.

Good luck. :wavey:

Yeah, you need to rearrange these in a hurry...

1) Get into a qualifying draw and win three matches
2) Win a main draw match
3) Get a ranking point, maybe even 200 of them.
4) Get a profile page when the ATP gets around to updating it (usually once a year for the lower ranked guys, and maybe they'll put your photo up there after five years or so).

Very unlikely you will get into a future tournament unless you get lucky and find one qualifying list to enter thats last direct acceptance is a bye then you will be put in. I believe you need an IPIN number also to enter a pro tournament. Otherwise you need to impress Tennis Canada enough to grant you a wildcard into the tournament. You should start trying to play Junior ITF tournaments and get a junior ranking and in doing so can enter other event and you have around 3 years to get that ranking higher. If you can get it high enough who knows you could be play junior Grand Slams. All you have to do is believe you can do it, never waste an oppurtunity and train like your life depended on it. The reason being there are kids out there that simply want it more than you, you have to want it more than anything in the world. Commitment is key, its a tough business and very few players break through but prove me wrong. Your going to have to create in your mind a whole nother reality when your on the court, be a completely different person. No time for friends, your going to have to be incrediably selfish and use a lot of people. You need to find a hitting partner the is of junior ITF standard so you can get used to the standard and not be completely blown out when you play. I wish you luck and you really need to never be on this forum ever again.

Doesn't really depend on how old are you but how long have you played tennis up to this moment.

First of all, slow down, getting an profile on the ATP site is the last thing you need to think of if you intend to compete on the pro level. Yeah, play some local and state-wide competitions, see if you can handle the stress, see if you can beat the good guys.

After A LOTS of practice and competetive matches you need to get an IPIN and then, if you're lucky or very talented, there is a possibility that you will recieve a wildcard into the qualifying draw (or get a DA for it, if there are not enough players interested/available for qualifying).

Of course, you need to lose the attitude you presented in your first post, becoming a pro isn't that straightforward and it is everything yet not easy.

Be prepared to sacrifice much of the following: time, socialising, money. Playing tournaments and practicing consumes a whole lot of your free time up to the point when you only sleep and play tennis on a regular basis. :)

Anyways good luck and keep us informed if we haven't forced you to give up. ;)

Easy. Change your nationality to Ugandan and move there. Chances are you'll be in the top 3 or 4 in the country and will get a wildcard into the Futures event for the next 15 years. All you need is for one of your first round opponents to injure himself in the warm-up and you're home free. If that fails, try paying a local to lob a spear at him during the changeover. Or train a monkey to attack his face and arms as he tries to serve. You may end up with Malaria but at least you'll have an ATP profile.

Playing at Futures level is pretty simple.

First, go to www.itftennis.com/ipin and register. Once you have done so you can enter, online, any Futures tournament of your choice. However as you will be unranked and pointless you can't automatically enter straight into Qualifying online but will instead have to just turn up on the first day of qualifying and sign in [obviously taking your ipin details along with you]. Aside from this it is useful to be registered with your national tennis authority as there may be certain benefits and you will need to be registered to enter national/local tournaments.

Good luck in your endeavours; keep us updated.

Xristos v. 2.0

Xristos wannabe.

No, according to his signature he's actually won matches and earned a regional ranking, 2 things that Xristos doesn't have.

From the ATP site

http://www.atptennis.com/5/zone/1.asp

This information is useless to Winnipeg at this time because he does not have an ATP point.

i just got back from playing 3 hours of tennis,
and the qualifying draws for most futures are full of unranked players

In North America, the Futures qualifying can be very tough, even if the players in them are unranked or only have one or two ATP points. You can look at all of last year's draws at Steve G Tennis or the ITF site, and you will see some names come up over and over again, guys who are still trying to get their point or trying to get more than one point (I know some of these guys, or know of them through someone who coaches a few of them). It's not nearly as easy as you might think.

Another thing to consider for some of the US draws... you don't recognize those names, but a lot of those guys are ranked college players or regionally ranked juniors and they are very competitive tennis players. You have to win four matches to get one ATP point (3 qualifying, 1 main draw), unless you can get yourself a main draw wildcard (you can try buying one into some tournaments I suppose).

Get an IPIN number from ITFTennis.com (as suggested earlier), then get the schedule of Futures tournaments in Canada for the rest of the year. Show up and sign in for qualies with proof of your regional ranking, and see what happens. Once you've played your match, hang around and talk to the guys, see how long some of them have been kicking around the circuit, trying to make a living at tennis. Those guys can give you a better education than anyone on this forum.

Fee
04-17-2008, 08:48 PM
You don't 'buy points' you buy a wildcard into some poor challenger or futures event and then win a match. Not sure how much it costs. How much do you have and how far are you willing to travel to do it? Remember, you still have to win a match and you could draw the top seed, so the money you spent to buy the wildcard could all be wasted since the ATP/ITF do not award points for a first round loss anymore.

Just make sure to use a fake name and a disposable cell phone until you find someone who seriously wants your money. Wouldn't want you to get into trouble.

JustJames
04-17-2008, 08:57 PM
Before you start buying WCs why don't you attend at least 5 or so Futures Qualifying events and try and find your feet. Even if you do successfully buy a wildcard into a Future/Challenger event you will be going in blind without any experience at that level. Just my 2 cents.

It depends. You have to have an IPIN number, then show up and take your chances. If ranked players don't show up, you might get in. Sometimes it depends on the size of the qualifying draw, or the location of the tournament.

OK seriously, I dunno the process, its on the ITF link someone posted. I read it before and it makes sense. Dont let ANYONE doubt you. I started playing tennis (seriously) at 15. Considering there are thousands of players like you all over the world, you need real talent, hard work and some luck too. Go to qualifing and try to make it to main draw. It is quite embarassing to get into the main draw directly, getting No.6 seed as your first opponent and get demolished 6-0 x2 :tape: I experienced it.

When you watch some No.156 mug with no big shots playing at the challenger and winning, it looks easy to become a pro...but in fact it usually is a long, twisty road. :worship:
If you make it to a challenger tour one day and stop playing only futures with that disgraceful prize money, you can already be very proud of yourself.

Good Luck mate.I'm shocked to see too many negativeness among MTF members! does it mean everyone is jealous of seeing someone else having a little progress?

P.S.you've got to register in ITF for your IPIN ASAP,then enter the futures events that you see is possible to have weaker players...then show up at their site and if allowed play the quallies first, then win three matches and win 1 single point! the following week ATP and ITF both will create your player profile and you'd get an atp rank, that's not as easy as it looks though!:wavey:

This is just too good to be true! I still dont understand you wasting your time on MTF.
If all you said is true, go concentrate on playing tennis. If you won tournaments in Manitoba, don't they have enough contacts in Tennis Canada so they can give you a qualifying spot on challengers? Go ask them, not MTF!!

I still see nothing believable on all ur post. I'm sorry but this is just not right.

Ive been playing some tournaments in the u.k this summer and coaches have shown me the steps to becoming a pro, basically:

you got to work up national rankings in local, regional and national tournaments. If you shoot up the rankings then you have to apply to your national tennis centre and the ITF to see if they will accept you on the tour.

At my club we have several ITF juniors ranked all around 200 300 and 400.

Being 17 you got get moving because you really want to start on the ITF tour 15 or 16 and also they dont give much prize money if any at these tournaments so you got to get some rich bastard to sponsor you or have a rich family to back you up.

That's if you survive the Sharkish Crocs there mate!

I highly recommend you talk to doctors who can provide you with ingredients that make you moonball your opponent to death. We all know who the dopers are on the ATP but nobody can prove it. So don't let the technicalities block your dream. Go for it and you'll be up there in top 1000 at no time.

He's still had more tennis success than I've had in my eleventy billion years upon this earth. At least he's not enhancing his TT achievements, and that's what really matters. :yeah:

He did try to punch above his weight by playing the U18 competition and losing 2 and 4, stick to your age bracket Ty!

Also, this Ty fellow won the "LM Architectural Group Jr Open" bronze medal beating Minuk,Alex 2-6, 7-5, 14-12 in the match of the century!(junior edition)
