Serena Wlliams' experience told against 16-year-old Tatiana Golovin. She defeated the French girl 6-2, 6-1 in 54 minutes and set a Championship record for the fastest women's serve.

hmm..maybe she should have a kid with Andy.....purely for tennis purposes...:haha:

I was pretty sure Venus had hit a 127 mph serve before at Wimbledon, so is this a record?

that's also exactly what I know! I don't think it's a new record for Serena...

Venus' serve speed record from the tournament in Switzerland in the year 1998 is still active.

I think Serena Williams just set a Wimbledon womens record rather as Venus Williams still has the 128MPH serve.

Venus hit a 127 MPH serve back in 1999 i think. Some indoor tournament vs Pierce. This 126 mph is a record at Wimbledon, amd I'm sure it's Serena's personaly best.

It's the record for the tournament, not sure if that's this year's only, but haven't there been some speculation about the reliability of the British speedguns?

As far as I know Venus still holds the record at 127. And I sincerely doubt that Serena hit an actual 126, but why not make Wimbledon more interesting by having a fuck-up speedgun.

OTOH if she'd played Stella Artois she'd already have the record.

yep, Venus hit a 127 MPH (205 KPH) serve in Zurich 1998 against Pierce;)! It's the all-time record for WTA!

OK people. It's the record for the tournament and obviously Serena's personal best.

But really, who puts stock into what the gun says? So unreliable.

Well, even though Venus still has the fastest serve in the WTA, Serena's is still definatly better. The way she diguieses it, and her placement and power make it the best serve in womens tennis. Also very nice, fluid service motion, she has.

I remember I think it was the 2001 U.S. Open and they were talking about how Venus' average first serve speed and fastest serve was faster than Andre Agassi

Too bad she couldn't hold a candle to Andre if they were to play a match. ;)

Yep Venus still has the record for fastest women's serve ever, at 127 MPH. Serena's 126 MPH is her personal best (her previous personal best was a 124 MPH delievery). The 126 MPH is also a record for being Wimbledon's fastest (for this year?).

Is it me or is more emphasis being put on what was marked on the radar?! What is this? A serving contest now?!

I remember something similar at Wimbledon 2002 in the serve stats between Henman and someone like Maleeva or Schnyder.
