Hurrah for tennis being an Olympic sport! Maybe I miss out on Grosjean in Wimbledon and Us Open because Danish TV seem to bear him a grudge and never show his matches, QFs or not - but the Olympics - both Danish state channels go crazy when it comes to the Olympics, and they show sports around the clock!!! I really do hope to get at least a glimpse of him...boohooo, haven't seen him at all since last summer!

Bummer! But I'm sure he will be singled out and will be shown in close up in the procession at the opening. :) And of course there's still a chance that he carries the flag at the closing ceremony if he wins the Olympic title :p

And Ulla, just wait until the Wimbledon SF - even Danish (and Dutch) TV must show Seb then.

I like the ice-skating (??) matches with Jochem Uytdehaage, bcos he's dutch and one of the best of the world.. But now for summer, yeh Wilma I'm going 2 watch the opening ceremony 2.. I'm actually looking forward to the games.. I dunno exactly what they are going to show, coz I didn't exactly followed it last time, but we'll see..

I don't much care for ice skating, and quite frankly I can't stand Uytdehaage! I like other ice skaters, though, like the tall guy from the cheese commercial (forgot his name). The trouble with Dutch tv (i.e. NOS) with events like the Olympics is that they start showing something, and then when you're half-way through a match, they go to something else, because they want to show everything. But they can't! You never can watch sth from start to finish and in the end you haven't seen anything at all. That's so irritating. I will try to watch swimming, volleyball, gymnastics (ladies only) and tennis, but I'm not going to watch all day, waiting for the tv programmers to be so kind as to show us a few random snippets.

Lizan
07-13-2004, 11:38 AM
Yeh I think they are going to show snippets in Studio Sportzomer.. Why only ladies gymnastics? I think men are soo good with the rings (?? I really dunno if english people understand this word, but I'm sure Wilma does LOL)..

I thought Marine wrote somewhere that he just wasn't focussed, being too busy in his mind with the Olympics. OK tough draw, but as long as he puts up a big fight and lets the opponent run for his money, I'm satisfied :) ALLEZ SEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ubrunjensen
08-13-2004, 02:38 PM
Ok, he's just never going to get anything for free, is he??? What a field to meet! Arthurs is unpredictable, and Safin can be a real obstacle - let's just hope the Russian will have one of his "I hate the entire game" days - then his mental state isn't too robust, and his confidence crumbles easily...God, I just want Grosjean to WIN!!! He needs to get a few victories under the belt. The summer hasn't been too good.

Didn't see Seb either :( although I see on the pic that he's walking on the camera side :) And Federer and Nalbandian were hard to miss, weren't they? The director must have been a huge Nalbandian fan for all the close-ups! Saw a glimpse of JC Ferrero as well.

Yes I saw Fererro, Youzhny, Federer, Nalbandian, Schrichaphan (with the flag guys).. Too bad I didn't see Seb, but it was a very beautiful show.. I liked the fact that our dutch DJ (DJ Tiesto) the best DJ of the world!! Had the honour to play!! Soo cool!!

wilma

Did Schrichaphan carry the flag? I nodded off somewhere around the letter 'O', I'm afraid. It was a cool show, but it's so irritating when the commentator is talking through the music all of the time commentating on things anyone can see for themselves :(

Woowww, O saw the matchpoint at tv, and his interview after match: he was happy of his match because there is much wind and it was not easy. He was asked about the fact to be in a olympoic tournament, and he said that it was weird because ht had to go to stadium by bus (!)from the olympic village and he was glad because some french athletes were there to support him.
What else ? ah yes, he said he was going to be ready for the double, 2 hours after his single, they're motived. :)

Sad they lost the double - but still, it's an okay bargain to lose the double if you win the single, in my opinion!!! And he sure did win his first single match! Do they play every day in Athens, or does it work the same way as in Grand Slams? I still haven't seen any Olympic tennis, as Danish TV is much more interested in badminton, sailing sports, rowing, and what have you - as if I really care whether or not Camilla Martin won yet another badminton match??? I'm no fanatic patriot, as you can all guess, and of course it would be nice if Danish athletes won loads of medals - but honestly, deep down, I just want to see the sports I favour (football and tennis)...

I like all the pix from his match - he's really goodlooking again, with his flowing locks and his cap!

Well, I've only seen a bit of swimming and volley ball so far, which are both sports I enjoy watching. The tennis tournament isn't hugely covered, to put it mildly, by stations I can watch (i.e. Dutch, German. Ehh, I followed all the games that Chinese players participated. :)

I must admit that badminton does not interest me much altho Chinese and Denish players(for Ulla) often do well for the matches. Regarding swimming, coz I've never learned to swim well even tho my father teaches me every summer vacation, I admire every swimming player truly from the bottom of my heart. :worship:

My fav of the Olympics is outdoor shooting (trap , double trap & skeet). I enjoy every posture of it and eagerly want an air rifle with a sight while my father told me it is illegal in China. And the people who influences me most about shooting is my best friend's mother who used to be a professional shooting player of team Shanghai before she got married.

Under normal circumstances I would grieve a little as I rather like the big Russian log, but considering the Olympics and the progress of Grosjean, I think it's just dandy that Safin lost!!! Lopez ought not to be too intimidating an opponent, and it seems to me that Grosjean is quite on a roll these days. Keep up the good work, Grosjean! And give us more pleasant news from Athens!

Sugarcult - Back To California

Artist: Sugarcult
Album: Palm Trees And Power Lines
Title: Back To California

How long I’ll wait
Just to say goodbye
Ten different ways to enjoy this night
Can’t do this anymore
Won’t feel you anymore

How long I’ll wait
Just to say goodbye
You could never let me in
Holding on until the end

The time I waste just to say goodbye
Out of your way
I could do this right
Can’t see you anymore
Won’t feel you anymore

How long I’ll stay
Just to say goodbye, say goodbye

Leaving all the fights and all
Summer’s getting colder
Drive all night to hold you tight
Back to California

Days went by
We waited and I guess we’re getting older
We couldn’t win in the end

You’re gone
I’m miles away
Turning out your lights
Ten different ways I couldn’t miss light
Can’t do this anymore
Won’t feel you anymore

How long I’ll wait
Just to say goodbye, say goodbye

Leaving all the fights and all
Summer’s getting colder
Drive all night to hold you tight
Back to California
Days went by
We waited and I guess we’re getting older
We couldn’t win in the end

You’re gone

Marine

I just watched his interview post match. He said he was very uncomfortable because of the reflection of sun on the blue court, he didn't see well the ball.
I guess this weird light hurt his eyes, as we can see on the pic.
He looked sad and disapointed anyway.

Ya I've heard about that...it shouldn't happen!
But I wonder if there're many players think so...or only himself...

Lizan
08-24-2004, 12:20 PM
hmm I didn't hear anyone else complain about it.. but I've seen seb have trouble with his eyes more often.. But i dont think it's weird that he has trouble with it as the light is very bright overthere with the sun..

Sammy

 about his eyes and his not getting through to the semi's.

Yet again, I reckon he's done really well. My daughters (who I am slowly converting to be Seb fans!) and I think he's a champion just for making it through to the quarter-finals of the Olympics. Especially when you look at the other top players who didn't make it that far.

Out of all those players in the first round (don't know how many men were in the singles draw) he was one of the last 8. That's a pretty good achievement! I take my :hatoff: to him.

So no more tears okay!

He's still a damn fine tennis player! :tennis:

Instead we have to keep hoping he'll win another final! :bigclap: And soon I hope!

And I can't wait to see him again next January at the Australian Open! (Perhaps he will win this?!! Who knows?!!!)
If he's in the earlier tournament (I think Esther and some others from this board went to this? The Commonwealth classic one or something or other? ) I might go to that one too. :)
