I've seen him choke really badly at other tournaments... I don't know what the deal is with him and Wimbledon. He's won challengers before, but in his career he's had mononucleosis, a wrist injury which kept him out of the game for 4 or 5 months. He's doing very nicely so far :)

yes, the most recent example is as he was up *5-1 to Clément in Halle and lost the set 5-7.

I'll sign that... well, Roddick needed two tiebreaks today against Dent what shows that he couldn't break his opponent's serve good enough. There's not that much difference between Dent's game on grass and Popp's. So Roddick should better watch out, I think this could be a great match, and a tight one, too.

 Dent went into net like 90 times today and Popp has been in 9 times in two and a half sets.

sure, in regards to net attacks they are of course not the same player... ah damn, well, forget about that part of post #6 then.
I meant both are able to serve well. Popp's serve speed-wise not the biggest, but some great angles.

LOL Neely! So they both have good serves, but it doesn't look like they play the same style at all really. Well anyway, like I said that's what Andy pays Brad for, to do the research;)

Anyway, it's nice for Popp to do well at Wimby but it's too bad he doesn't get any results anywhere else!

Popp doesn't seem to hit so many aces, but he has a fabulous winning percentage on his first serve. Plus he isn't missing many first serves. :)

yeah , I guess he knows how to play well at Wimbledon. I met him once at the 2003 Thailand open (indoor hardcourt), the first round he was playing well but the next day he lost easily.

Popp was leading 2 sets - 0 in last years wimbledon against Philippoussis and managed to lose the match.

He seems to play well every year on grass, i think he is just a grass courter. He seems to be in good form now, I think he'll take out Roddick, who isnt looking his best.

He's futher evidence to the claims that grass court tennis is all about finesse... *snort*

yes, it was a great match. Philippoussis came out a little bit flat after his match against Agassi and Popp was able to win the 1st two sets. Set 3 and 4 have gone to Philippoussis, who was hitting his serve better and better. Then at 2-2 there was a rain delay and the match was postponed to the next day. The fifth set was again very close and maybe some people remember that fantastic play of Philippoussis as he saved a break point, at 5-5 in the fifth set, with a diving backhand volley as Popp tried to pass him crosscourt (if I remember correctly, I think this volley turned out as a volley dropshot, unreachable for Popp).

That was really a fantastic play, maybe the best and most important of the whole two weeks. This action saved Philippoussis the win because I think Popp would have been able to serve it out if he broke to make it *6-5.

And the end of the story was that Scud won 8-6 in the fifth.
