:(

There goes my Sunday afternoon. Can I at least have something exciting like Venus/K-Lina

Dirk

Rogi inspires people to play tennis, so you would think they would show one of his matches. I have yet to see him. I'm so so sick and tired of all the USA repeats. I WANT FUCKING ART DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!! :fiery:

Or they could at least show Roddick v. Federer repeats e.g. the Wimbledon semi 2003. What, was there something wrong with that match?

ESPN showed Venus and Sprem for the 800th time already... ESPN re-played many matches, a variety of matches in my opinion

and for NBC to show Roddick, well, that shouldnt be surprising, they have to show SOMETHING, but it isnt a big deal to me b/c a variety of matches have been being replayed all week

as for Rogi, he is wonderful to watch, he makes cakewalks look beautiful. That's how great it is to watch him. But I wouldnt want to see a replay of his matches. They have been one-sided in the best representation of the term

This sounds like sarcasm Baseline, lol. Nevertheless I will say, I think ESPN did replay that match a day or two ago, didnt they?

Yeah the wrong guy won. I hope they show Rogi after this Andy match is over. Don't they realize how important Rogi is to tennis? I know he doesn't look like a backstreet boy and acts like a typical USTA brat but he has brought back classic tennis and the more people see of him the more they like him and tennis. It could lead to higher enrollment in tennis camps and lessons. Of course I'm just a fan so what do I know.

I agree with you baselinesmash, They should so us the match between Federer Vs Roddick. Infact Federer Vs Phillippousis would also do.

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:26 PM
Well Andy's matches have been one sided. At least with Rogi the one sidedness is artistic and pretty.

I'm impressed. The BBC wouldn't replay Henman's shameful loss to Hewitt in 2002. :music:

lol, i wish Andy's matches have been one-sided. If they have been one-sided Dirk, then what have Roger's been? Divine?

Frederick??? You mean that guy who won...what did he win again? Is he that dude they show holding up the trophy at the beginning of the Wimbledon coverage???

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:28 PM
Well his lost wasn't that shameful. Everyone knew Henman was fucked.

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:30 PM
Andy hasn't dropped a set or been broken so yes his matches have been one sided. Rogi will never get big here and even if he does they still won't show him unless there are no Americans playing. They better show his match tomorrow and just not fucking clips.

Roddick upset about something? Hitting himself upside the head with the racquet, throwing his racquet, questioning line calls with his racquet...Did he win this in straight sets

BTW, JMac announced the DC crew Roddick, the Bryan brothers and a bunch of out of shape guys.

Hey whatever happened to George Bastl?

06-26-2004, 07:31 PM
Well his lost wasn't that shameful. Everyone knew Henman was fucked.

If he can get into a position where he's serving to go two sets all with Coria on clay at Rolland Garros, as he was this year, there's really no excuse for losing 7-5 6-1 7-5 to Hewitt on his favourite surface.

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:32 PM
He has a big block with Hewitt mentally.

Gonzo Hates Me!
06-26-2004, 07:33 PM
Well Dirk, yeah, Andy is winning in straight sets. But just look at his scorelines and Federer's.

NBC commentators "shocked" that Roddick only got polite applause from the crowd. Maybe he will get it later when he meets Henman or Flip in the semis

These reruns are really going to drive people crazy and I don't see why they can't at least show matches from last year like Federer vs. Roddick or even the men's final.

Tennis Fool
06-26-2004, 07:42 PM
Jimmy Roberts asks if Fed goes on to dominate, will he hurt men's tennis? :(

Well, yeah, if you never show him and people don't know who you are talking about!

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:46 PM
 Mac thinks Rogi will get 7 or 8 slams. I feel bad for Rogi. Now if he loses at wimbly this year some of these media types will say he is over and such.....

Gonzo Hates Me!
06-26-2004, 07:47 PM
TF, i think people would be surprised how many not even casual fans actually know who Federer is! The most random people have told me, "I like that Federer guy" or "That Federer, he's so cute." ...

Dirk, lol, you're so sensational! I dont think anyone could feel like Rogi is over if he bombed out of Wimbledon... there was that big period when people wondered if hed ever get his head together and win a Slam. That seems like a lifetime ago. If he bombed out of any slam, I think people would be saying, "he'll be back, on to the next"

Dirk
06-26-2004, 07:51 PM
Yeah but the media will put up a fuss.

Interesting Mrs. G: Regular folks do know about Fed? That's great :D

I think I'm the only person who hasn't seen this V/K-lina match. Verrrry interesting. K-Lina is Monica Seles

I'm sick of it.

I heard Star Sport even showed 2001 final when it was raining.

There are a lot of people who feel that Sampras single-handedly killed tennis.

I could hear that in my local tennis club, but I can't recall such statements on national TV.

DC Team? No, the US Olympic teams were announced today. They went strictly by the rankings and the cutoff was June 14 and Dent was ahead of Ginepri by a couple of spots at that point (too bad for Ginepri he's playing well NOW, a week after the cutoff). So the top 4 singles players - Roddick, Fish, Spadea, and Dent were selected. Plus the Bryans in doubles and Andy and Mardy are gonna play doubles too. I don't think they'll announce the DC team for the September tie til sometime around the USO?

Sunday: More Roddick. At least it wasn't a rerun, although it was tape-delayed.

Roddick really amped up his game from the last round. Dent is just...he needs a full-time trainer and lose about 10-15 pounds. He also needs to get mentally tough. If he had won the 1st tiebreak (he had 3 set points) it could have made this match interesting.

Alas, the only thing interesting was showing the matchpoint of 18 year McBrat winning over (a very different '70s "pimp style") Phil Dent.

Of course, I had to turn off the tv after the middle of the second set. I was not interested anymore and was not interested in the crossover to the Henman/Arazi match.

Hope tomorrow brings better coverage!

gotta admit, found the match highly not interesting myself. I have been watching VH1 instead, the channel for losers with no lives

yeah, German TV also showed it

This weekend I've been seeing double. In the morning, ESPN coverage. In the afternoon, NBC coverage. Same matches, same people but with slightly different camera shot mesurements. I think I've memorized all the people in the audience.

06-27-2004, 10:37 PM
So...why am I supposed to dip out $60 a month to get cable when I can see the same matches free on regular tv

Guyz, remember HBO Wimbledon coverage in the early-mid 90s? They had cameras court-side and the way they caught the shots was a work of art. The commenators were Arthur Ashe (RIP) and BJK...

Well, in Switzerland they now only show Federer's matches, which is a bit lame but at least i can also see BBC 1 and 2 and the german ARD and DSF, so all in all i get a pretty good coverage of Wimby now :)

Are you kidding me? Please tell me you are joking?

Let's see, Roddick vs. Peya has been shown probably 4-5 times, Venus/Karolina 4 times, Henman/Hidalgo 4 times, Serena/Zheng 4 times, Serena/Foretz 3 times, etc. The repetitiveness of ESPN's taped match selection while live tennis is not being played (or sometimes while it is being played) is annoying and pathetic. What about seeing some of the other contenders? Or how about watching some of those 5-set thrillers?

tennischick
06-28-2004, 09:27 AM
so there are advantages to not getting ESPN coverage after all. who woulda thunk it? :p

i have a theory that ESPN is scared to show live tennis bec one of the female players ust might flash a breast ;)

did anyone see the adverts with Roddick with the word "Superstar" at the top. it was enuf to make me barf. but ESPN's agenda is pretty clear. hence the repetition. and the sad truth is that no-one will remember Peya bec none of the commentary is about him.
