Today he won against Mertinak 60 75 in Barletta Challenger and in R2 plays against the winner of Eschauer/Coria.

he played well against Canas, just needs more experience
the last 3 tournaments have been great for him

I like this guy, but I must say his coach must be quite poor... the potential of his game is quite massive, as he is also showed in the juniors, but he more or less stayed still for 3 years now. The weaknesses in his game are quite apparent and at the age of 21 should be clearing up. Someone with the weapons he already possesses should be challenging top 100, not out of the 250 mark.

indeed, his game is massive, even better than Fognini I might say, but Fabio made the breakthrough already and Naso is just making the first steps in that direction

Fognini has a more solid game though... and has good shot making ability, but also consistent and doesnt make that many errors. Fognini is clearly the type who will make top 50 and possibly even further, but his injury this year came at the wrong time. Naso on the other hand looks like the inconsistent type who can fire on all cylinders one day and be absolutely dreadful the next.

Well Naso has gained more experience now. I dont mind which player wins, but it would be good to see Naso qualify for this.

Indeed a very good chance for Naso to qualify here and go further up the rankings. I think its good in some ways he cant qualify, instead he can try and get far in some challengers and gain some needed ranking points he may not get at RG.

Gianluca is losing almost every match he takes part this year.

Hopefully he gets the confidence back, he should have better results according to his game in my opinion :yeah:

indeed, it was exactly last yer when he was doing rather well in some clay tournaments
he'll lose the points now and is losing confidence as well

Rome could be a good place for him to do something, but Gianluca lost to Youzhny in 2 sets.

Maybe he could play some Italian futures to get some rhytm and confidence.

Man...some more losses and just an atrocious year, especially when you consider how well he was doing last year.
I agree completely, he has been playing challenger qualies but I think it would benefit him greatly to play a few of the Italian futures to gain confidence and seriously remember what if feels like to win matches.

Sad really Naso looked like he could maybe get near the top 100 sometime, but now its unlikely.

Last couple weeks weren't terrible....ranked 300 in the world right now.
I honestly don't know why he doesn't just play the Italian futures circuit. It is the incredibly easy answer, honestly. He can gain confidence by winning some matches, and with all these Italian futures being 15k he could also gain some pretty good points.

Well he got the bronze medal in the med. games, so lets hope that makes him a bit happier. Did he get Gold in the doubles aswell?

Gianluca was up *5-3 in the third against Andujar in the 2nd round of Orbetello and ended up losing 7-5. It wasn't a pleasant choke to watch...that's his year in a nutshell.
