Some of you have read my afternoon signature in which I wrote that I'm planning to open a new site: safinsucks.com. I have decided against it and back already... I love Marat, but I don't mind having a site on why I hate him too.
Anyway I'm doing a research and I will appreciate if you guys give me ideas on why you hate/dislike Marat and why someone else might hate/dislike Marat. Give me everything that you don't like in him. Even if you are a safinette or safinou, like me, you surely see something negative in him, no?

Thanks

I love Marat, and will follow him for the remainder of his career. However, I strongly dislike the fact that he takes what he has for granted. Obviously, he has forgotten about the rough climb up and where he started -- where others still are.

Yea I don't hate Safin, he's cool! I think he is great for the game, with his antics and his talent! I am disapointed in him is all. I wish he was around, I want him to play the best he can, and make the best matches. So I am sad, but, I don't hate Safin, I don't think anyone does...

I don't think I need to tell you all the things I love about Marat, but here are a few things that can annoy me:
not giving credit to his opponents
not giving his all on court
thinking that his talent alone is enough to be a great player
staying with his management and all, who imo suck
not learning form his mistakes
having a big mouth and not backing it up with results

That's it i think ;)

If you do a site, don't make it mean-spirited. Do it in a Marat-like spirit, lol. You know OAF, love him or hate him :D

I think that Marat is an extremely likable character. But as much as I admire that tennis is not all their is in his life, I find it hard to root for him because sometimes I honestly feel like he just doesn't care. If he doesn't care about his results, why should I? On the other hand, when I see how he played through his matches at Roland Garros with chunks of skin hanging off his hands, and hear how bitter he sounds about his loss here... I think he does care. He just has an awfully weird way of showing it. He does seem to take a lot of things for granted, but again, I'm not sure that's being entirely fair to him. He's... complex. One second I have one thought about him, and then he turns around and does something that makes me doubt my initial reaction.

I think always there are things about a favorite player that you don't like.... uh... I can't think of anything off hand that I don't like about Guga right now except that his hair is too short... but about my other favorites there are things that really aggravate me. I always think that I get more aggravated with my favorites than with other players because I really don't care that much about them.

Marat is a good guy... he's got a different world view than is normal among most tennis players and that makes him interesting. It also contributes to his lack of results. I think it's hard for him to take winning tennis matches seriously. He seems to be caught up in the absurdity of life in an almost fatalistic way. I've got sympathy for him. But you know, if he doesn't care about tennis or his career, I can't really get up for caring one way or the other about it either.

Well I don't hate Marat.

The problem is that I'm fairly new (within the past year) to following tennis really closely. So my first exposure to Marat was the AO and I was like "wow he's exactly what I like in a player. Talented, charismatic, funny, powerful, interesting".....so I started to really like him but then lately it's all the stuff that's already been mentioned.

If i'd been a fan since the beginning, I don't think I'd be able to turn my back on him so I totally understand where you guys are coming from, but for me the crap he's been saying lately unfortunately outweighs all the great things I saw at the AO. I think it's sad. I feel for him and I feel bad for you guys who want so badly to support him. I hope he can find it within himself to turn it around while he still can.

he doesnt understand that tennis doesnt last forever and life doesnt always give u a second chance. one day he'll regret on giving up so easily. the day when he'll finally become mature and he'll be focused on tennis, maybe he will not be able to play at his best level (cos of age, cos others r simply stronger or cos of injuries).

Enjoy his game, got a nice personality, but the overuse of the word "luck" as the key to whoever won the match drives me up the wall :tape:

I love Marat! He's not just cool! He's ADORABLE... wonderful! with an incrediable personality etc. Ho my Gosh, I really do love him. Anyways, I know his carrer has been pretty tough... specially this last months that he hadn't the best results. I know that some fans are quite desesperated as well, and like I guess he must feel this way too, but I think, I really do think that is possible all these things we were waiting for... THE TITLE!! but unfortunately is not that easy  oki, maybe for marat seems not too possible but it is not impossible!!! MARAT! U can do it! Believe on you baby!!

well said. And I agree. :worship: I like him. But I'm always disappointed to see him lose that way. In that match against Dmitry he was leading one set and a break. I remembered, but losing the second and third easily. And in the fourth set he was a break ahead but still managed to lose the set and match. If he focuses more, he could have won 3 grand slams, not just one.

Well, I've never been the biggest Marat fan, but I pay more attention to him these days because my site designer has a site for him. It was quite interesting to read the comments of his loyal followers today. It is frustrating, as a tennis fan in general, to see that kind of talent go to waste for no apparent reason. It is especially frustrating to me, knowing that if a hard working player like JanMike had half of Marat's talent, he might have won a few important titles by now.

Marat has so much passion, it would be a wonderful thing for all of us if he could focus it on his tennis game.

That really got to me yesterday, shouting at the tv and all. Wanting the nr1 is one thing, but you gotta make that happen at every match you play (anyone saw Coria fighting like a raging bull? he hates grass just as much I bet), you're not gonna get that status gifted just like no one hands you a match "even" if you're a set and a break up.

I'm not a Marat fan myself but I definately don't hate him. He brings a charisma and an excitement to the court that is sadly lacking these days. I think all his injury problems last year affected him more than anyone realised - both emotionally and mentally as well as physically. I wish him all the best.

Wow that's odd.

Well, I like Marat as far as it goes. I think he's tempremental and childish but at least he wears his heart on his sleeve and there's always that element of crazy unpredictability and emotion that makes the circuit more colorful. I think he's a good guy...just way too stubborn sometimes...but thats Marat. Makes him who he is.

People remember you for winning. Not for being charismatic or dramatic or exciting or whatever. John Mac (annoyingly) had all this but he won matches too.

The thing why Marat has this love-hate thing from every one is, if you really love tennis - it is very disappointing to see such a natural talent go waste. It makes you angry because he's got a chance not many get (more precisely that we don't get) and he is blewing it off.

I like Marat - otherwise he wouldn´t make so angry sometimes ;) - and I agree with many things said above. He must realize he can´t live up to his talent without working for it or making more efforts. And he´s old enough to know that a job of any kind is not always fun!

Alisa
06-23-2004, 04:32 PM
i agree with marat that job is not the only thing in the world, you shouldn't concentrate on it so much : there r some other sides of life.

u want him to entertain u but he also has his private life, that he wants to spent with his family and friends.

I think watching Marat is great fun!
How many players have you seen taking their short down or counting the blisters in their hands??? At least he's showing some personnality on the court and although it might not be of everyone's taste I think it's great!
