I'm now watching Roddick vs Wang and the stupid commentator keeps talking about his serves how fast it is and how slow Wang's is compared to his...etc...

Stop it! it's not as if he uses his serves to win all the points... the game of tennis is all about breaking serve too!!! He must have some skills of returning and good shots rite? or why does he win match????

Get with it and discuss more on the whole match and not just the serve...

Agree with you, but you got to at least say that its his main weapon.....
isn´t it?

A fast serve helps, but against good returners, you need more than that too. Also, you need to break the other. It is a nice weapon to have though.

I know it's a bit harsh on me to scold them...but really...how many times do they need to mention that he holds the fastest serve?? If having the fastest serves helps, then he better win all the title for the whole year!

Stupid people!!! they obviously dun do their homework too...there was another match bet Sveta Kuznetsova vs Razzano and they were like "wow, she's so good...why is she ranked 100++?"

for goodness sake, she was injured and did not play for a long time... what do they expect? the points are retained? the ranking may be protected for seeding purposes but the points still fall off!!!

Razzano was 50++ and climbing before she was injured!!

Stupid people!!! Stupid people!!!!! :fiery:

By the way, Razzano won.

At least you get to see that match AND the commentator doesn´t continuely make comments about Sharapova´s hot look and screaming...love a 50 year old guy drooling over a kid!

Well you know that the return winner and backhand down the line and all that stuff... so what what the commentators say. But it's his main weapon, so they're gonna talk about it. When Coria's on court they talk about his speed, when Tim is on court they talk about his volleying... no difference :)

yes... but they could focus more on their other aspects of their games... it's not like we don't know what are the various players' strength...

I'm just easily irritable today...sorry guys...

I don't know where you're watching, but in the US they've been very careful to mention how much work he's done with his volleys, backhand, and return. When he hits a good backhand or serve-volleys or whatever they always make the comment like "he and Brad have been working hard on this" or whatever. I suppose it's different because the US commentators know him more closely but nah I don't think it's that big a deal. I understand being easily irritable though, we all have our days :)

In US, the commentators have to say things other than Roddick's serve, otherwise, how are they going to fill up that 15 minutes (and numerous occasions during coverage) talking about Roddick BEFORE his match starts. ;)

And Buddy, sorry you feel so irritable today  blame the weather.

I totally agree with this! I mean come on! There's so much more than the serve! And Wang's serve was decent, I think 110+ is fast! But they are supposed to be commentators on the sport, so they should know that it's also the serve used, technique and placement. Better hose them down, because they are all under the speed gun fever!

I don't know what network coverage you were watching but I was watching ESPN's. It's so funny that you mentioned this because when I was watching ESPN's coverage of the Carlos vs. Olivier Patience match, they were also saying something similar about how come Olivier isn't ranked as high with how he plays!

Thanks guys.... actually i was watching many another matches too but this commentator sort of disturbed me as the other two were quite good...

One of them was very observant and made a lot of comments of certain shots and how come points are won and when the replay was shown it was what she described!!! That was good!!!

but the roddick one was so dead almost like he din know what to say and was saying for the sake of saying....

eg: "great forehand shot... he has the fastest serve...oh great down the line shot..." i think i can say that myself too!!!

the better ones -

"Notice how she wins the points as she has a short backswing thus when the balls come back fast at her it's just right and she can place it anywhere she wants it...on a good day she could place a ball on a dime on the court"

"I've seen her play in Australian open and i'm not impressed...she wasn't doing well and her ranking dipped, but today's match is excellent... it seems like she is quite lucky the her shots are right on the baseline, but i dun think it's luck as she placed many balls right on the line and not just one or two..."

So you see the difference between one who did some research before the match and those who did not and just go out there to chat...it makes tons of difference...

But thanks guys...i just hope i get the better commentator tomorrow... :) to all of you too!

by the way, I will not shut the volume cos i like to heard the crowd's cheer/clappings and the ball whacking sound as well as the player's agonished shouts when the missed a shot or fail to break serve...

Well, but it's a big part of his game. And you know commentators, they chew on the same curd all the time.

yea well... today, his serve was the only thing that he did well... so that's why they commented on it today

Wang really surprised me today, but he had nothing to do against Roddick...
But still he played good, so good luck in the future Wang

I saw this in the women's forum and i think it takes all cakes with regards to terrible commentators...

(Serbian commentator at Serena's match. Venus is shown in the crowd.
The guys goes:
"There's one of the older Williams sisters. I don't know which one it is."

After 15 minutes:
"A Williams sister calmly watching the match."

After 30 minutes:
"There's no Oracene next to Richard and one of their daughters. Their marriage is in crisis."

After 40 minutes:
"Actually, this might be Venus, but I'm not sure."

After 60 minutes:
"Yes, that's definitely Venus.")
