I agree with that assessment. Marat hit a good serve on match point and Tursunov returned well. Marat couldnt' get enough stick on the volley and it was an easy put away for Dimitry. Dimitry was very respectful of Marat and did not celebrate his victory at all.

Marat was more flat than tanking in the tiebreak, and of course Tursunov was fired up.

And yes, Marat didn't look very fit.

Thanks Star. I actually like Max too, and it's a shame to see him out of Wimbledon so early. This was my least favorite 1st round match of the whole draw. I had heard from one of my site regulars that Max has been playing well his last two tournaments, but losing close matches (both were three setters). MM and JMG have played close matches before and they have a lot of respect for each other. So, it's a great relief for me, but not too much celebrating. He's got another match tomorrow.

Umm... SW19.... (is that right!?) it's 2.36am here in Aussie land. I do not have time for these shennanigans. Wimbledon should go athens style... Just throw a big tarp over the top of the stands and everything will be fine. Although you might have to tell Alexander and Ivo to bend down a little...

I know they're sticklers for keeping each half playing each day, but I'll be surprised if they make him play twice in one day. Although he does only need two points to win this one ;)

By the way, if they had given him a Tuesday match it might actually have been worse - he might not even have got to play.

heehee the commentator just said 'henman cant afford to have any slip ups here". The timing! Does Coria play soccer (football to some  ) in his spare time? Since you said he looked like he was faking it... I just thought maybe he practiced rolling on the ground in agony, in another sport ;) (Whoa am I asking for a red dot :o ) I cant even imagine the guy angry. We've not had any significant rain here (I'm about 30 miles from London) for a few weeks. It's been saving itself up especially ;)

I don't think missing a day or so's play in the first week is too worrying. It's worse when it's the end of the second week, because then they don't really have much of an opportunity for catching up. The forecast for Friday and Saturday is good afaik, so if necessary they will start matches earlier on those days.

Sometimes I don't know what all the panic is about when it rains at Wimby, because they cope very well and hardly ever run over or force players to double-up on matches. The US Open seems to get as much rain as Wimbledon most years, but then their basic scheduling is  anyway, so they don't have much room for manoeuvre. BTW I'd love to know what the stats are to compare hours lost during these two Grand Slams.

Siobhan I don't know what to say in those things :tape:

jtipson last I checked there's now chance of rain on Saturday... and even if not, it's still going to be more than "a day or so" of lost play if tomorrow is bad too (and maybe even some on Thursday).

Looks like they're pretty much done for the day, on the webcams it says "Play is Abandoned on All Courts" so I assume they're done for the day anyway. I almost wish he did  . They probably shouldn't have even restarted the match. His was the only one that had been restarted as far as I know. I'm beginning to wonder in Wimby doesn't want to see him get through. Grass is my least favorite and Guille is making me enjoy it more.

LOL  ...well, I think the only one he should have smacked is HIMSELF... if he did complain less and spend less time expressing his "annoyance", then maybe he would have gotten two more points and the match would have been finished today and the decision to restart the match would have been justified :p

I agree that Coria complains a lot but he didn't today. It made no sense to have them out there and no one else was playing. The officials have an obligation to make sure everyone plays under safe conditions. It was raining. Not cool.

I think I would be complaining too if I was slipping and sliding all over the place. Guille doesn't have the type of serve to get quick points all the time so he has to depend on his legs and he has to run all over the court.

The point is that the match should've never been resumed to begin with. They didn't start anyone else's.
