That "meaningless" tournament is worth 200 points, which I'm sure he'd like to have. The more he earns before Indian Wells and Miami the less pressure he'll have as he has to defend A LOT of points during masters series season. So, he's not gonna kill himself if he loses but he'll most definately try his best to win.

If he played with his left hand, he would still beat that mug. A defeat against Simon, the reigning champion will have some respect about it.

He plays in Rotterdam and Dubai - plenty of time to catch up. Not as though all the top 10 are playing this week anyways.

But Simon is ill, he already was completely out of breath against Guez, he wouldn't play if it wasn't Marseille.
Unless he recovers until tomorrow, I'm afraid Djokovic will need to put up a Bercylike tank job to lose that one.

What happened last year vs Troicki in Umag and Santoro in Paris?

Farenhajt
02-13-2008, 08:17 PM
He forgave no mistake in the first, and he kept himself warmed up in the second. Waited for Dodig to crumble, but when it didn't happen, he just stepped it on in the 9th game and finished it off. Still not looking as having nothing left, so tomorrow should be good.

He plays in Rotterdam and Dubai - plenty of time to catch up. Not as though all the top 10 are playing this week anyways.

Not necessarily. Marseille 200 points (should he win) cover for losing 150 points if he cancels both of those, so he'd be in a nice shape to dedicate completely to IW and Miami preparations. (And THAT will be a big and important task - almost a maximum number of points to defend, with Federer bound to face him twice in 2 weeks.)

I was in Umag, I watched that match!

He was 1-5 down in third set, takes two breaks to 5-5, Troicki then played some brilliant tennis and won that. That is not a way to tank some match. They played 2 hours on 30 degrees, rain fall before the match, humidity was very high...

So, don't talk about thing that you don't know!

Everyone I was watching with thought that Novak tanked that match on purpose for Viktor (and probably for other reasons). Those ranking points meant a lot to Viktor while they meant nothing for him. You can't argue the Santoro match was not a tank.

Why would he tank tomorrow if he didn't tank today? He definitely couldn't tank today, it would have been so obvious and the tournament organization would have been really mad at him after all they've done to make him come (they organized a private jet for him, etc.)
The organization certainly prefers him to win tomorrow too, but they won't be soooo mad if he loses to Simon.

I don't think he can afford again such an horrible tank job like in Bercy though. So if Simon plays really well, Djoko might not give his very best then, but that's a big "if".
