And he is a world class player in all surfaces. Why not?

Great match! I'm so happy! Tsonga is a good player but I think that, like Baghdatis, just had his moment in AO. When he met a player with a similar style, the experience just won. And besides power Ancic has also a finesse that Jo is lacking.
Hopefully Croatia will have a full winning day this evening! ;)

Those balls are relatively new asset of Mario's... he was known as one of the biggest chokers on the tour, giving tourney finals away like a charity organization, and generally choking anything on sight. Became surprisingly tough after winning that decisive 5th rubber in the DC final, I'd say.

Sadly, ever since then he's going from an injury to sickness, back to more injuries and ever worse illness.

This is true, as well as the fact that Mario has had plenty of fans for a while now. It's just hard to cheer for a player when they're not playing, so now that Mario's making another comeback it seems like everyone's jumping on at once. ;)

Yeah... and just to add, I think there's nothing wrong with just noticing a player doing very well after such an awful strain of injuries. It's not bandwagonning, it's just being happy to see him back after all he's been going through the past few years.

I like Tsonga too, and will continue to do so. It's not like I'm writing him off at all - I guess he's been partying too much after the DC, and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of him in the near future.

Tsonga's not a particular favourite of mine, but spare him some thought too :p He's practically played non-stop since the start of the season. SF in Adelaide, winning the doubles in Sydney, finals in the AO, then straight on to DC (with some partying at the side..) it's got to start taking its toll somewhere.

Hey All,

Mario is a super player. He is no joke and means bizniz. He has a remarkable all around game and serve. Good on him for playing well. He's very solid. He don't be messing around. And whatever the score at the end of his matches (if he lost) - and like many other names we could insert here, they are always close.

To allude to Jo-W's partying after DC and all of the attention he's been receiving is something to wonder about - but these are not the reasons he lost. Even he has been quoted saying that he needs a rest. He lost because he was outplayed on the key points. He was leading 5-4 30-0 in the first set when Mario started serving like a scientist to hold serve.

The match was decided by a few points here and there - and like most close ones are. In other words, if the factors attributed to T-Man's recent past wasn't about the partying, attention, tiredness, nerves (DC ones) and the high he's been on since his AO final and DC win, Mario still might have won. It appears these two play close matches as the results of the only two they've played reveal.

I'm glad they are both in the league, for they are both talented. I hope both stay injury free.

I like Tsonga very much but this is an important win for Mario's confidence. Good to see him back :yeah:

Don't know if it has been posted but there are some highlights of the matches there:

Really nice points in the Tsonga-Ancic game. I hope Tsonga comes back in great shape for the US tournaments.

Very close match, Tsonga trying to play his game as he always does, but he was little bit flat. On the other hand Mario was also far from his best, but he played very smart and didn't push too much and mixing it a lot and that is a receipt against Tsonga. If he can't impose his game he is lost cause he doesn't have a capability to adopt.

Very entertaining match !

Lost of powers on the two sides, big serves and really nice net play.

A very good match to see by two players which could be ranking higer if they would have not so much injuries..

Its jsut one match people. This result doesn't mean that Ancic is back, or that Tsonga will have a bad year for the rest of the season, like some popel are saying!
