I read that Jonas has had a great attitude during this tie and has really enjoyed the atmosphere. He even asked if he could get some of the music that they were playing during the changeovers, etc.

Nice win for Jonas and hope to see Israel at this stage again next year.

The part about the music was hilarious, we're talking standard Israeli music here, all in Hebrew. He really liked it, wanted a copy on the CD, said it was "perfect for Tennis" (?? :-) and wanted the organizers of the Sweden Open to play it in the change-overs. Good stuff.

He had such nice things to say about the crowds, how playing in front of that crowd made him feel 20 years old. He signed for the kids. He gained a lot of fans in Israel this week.

The Swedish team desrves it.. They played so well in this tie (And Tojo really surprised me..!) and they are great people as well, I'm glad they came here, and the crowd knew to appriciate it too.

The crowd misbehaved against Russia, we were perfect angels to the Swedes, Bjorkman and Thomas had nothing but great things to say, Bjorkman even said that he would have groaned to Sharapova if it was him in the Israeli crowd, because she groans way too much!

He made a lot of fans, the Sweedes lived up to the streotype though, cool and collected.

We have some very passable countries to play in order to remain in the World group, but some can be a disaster - Chile would be a NIGHTMARE, Gonzo would be hell-bent on revenge, and the crowd? Oi.

Roger's Switzerland in Switzerland? Nuff said. The thought of Israel playing Switzerland is more than bareble if it was in Israel, I would gladly lose the tie 4:1to see Roger kicking Dudi's ass 5 ft away from me :) But Alas, not to be.

Congratulations to the charming Swedes. The Russians could have learned a thing or two from them.
It still hurts though  Sweden at home (and as it turned out, without their #1 player) was the best draw we could have gotten, I don't know when this kind of opportunity will present itself again.
If only he'd served out the 4th set or taken the TB... I really fancied his chances for a 5th, Bjorkman started to look tired.

It's sad that ToJo and Bjorki haven't successors in Sweden
What about (the currently injured) Soderling?

Oh, come on now :) That doesn't count!:p

We were actually clapping on the good shots of the Swedes, at least on Friday and Saturday, I wasn't there today.

I think Roger would have to show up, it is not unthinkable for Dudi to take a match vs. Stan, and Harel/Noam and Dudi can take out Bohali, for sure. Along with the doubles point, we could be favorite to win.

Don't think he'd win that...he still has some way to go before he can challenge more often for wins against the better players.

Agreed. But I wouldn't rule out an upset, I mean - Dudi beat Gonzo, I can see him beating Stan. Who would have thought Tipsy would take Roger to 5 sets? Those things can happen, and Davis cup, especially, has a life of its own.

But yea, not in Switzerland, and should this ever happen, the Swiss would be insane not to choose clay.

 Does Sweden have anyone coming up in the juniors? If not, why the lack of new Swedes? Not as much money for development, the law of averages in terms of them having a small population as a country is catching up with them , etc.?

 Does Sweden have anyone coming up in the juniors? No. If not, why the lack of new Swedes? The last DC captain decided on the brilliant idea, juniors shouldn't play abroad until they were 14, thus leaving Sweden's best a couple of years to catch up with the rest of Europe. For some reason Vinci, Toad and Pimpim made it anyway. Not as much money for development, the law of averages in terms of them having a small population as a country is catching up with them , etc.? Swedish fed has only debts.:o That small country argument is so old. I think tradition, culture and education is more important. The Czecj republic always had decent players for example. Sweden has messed up their culture and education when it comes to tennis I think.

Mats talked about it a little bit when he was here, he said the Swede teens are more interested in other sports now, I think he treated this tie a little bit like the swan song of the current team.

I'll see if I can find the interview.

I am very, very happy about what ToJo and Bjösse have achieved and I really take my hat for them :hatoff:

But on the other hand, like Aphex wrote, I am really, really worried about the future of the Swedish tennis :( It is just so sad to see how many top players they had only like 10 years ago and now there is nothing
I know that guys like Magnus Norman really try to change the thinking of the Tennis Association and that he tries to motivate younger players himself (he often writes about it in his blog), but I am quite sure it will take a long time, if ever, until Sweden will have several good players again...

It's a shame to see many countries with a rich tennis history seemingly abandon the game over the years. We've heard the excuses why USA is no longer as dominant but what are Australia's, Great Britain's, and the Swede's reasons?

Well they don't have anyone to look up to and also it was hard after the golden generation because everyone was compared to them.

Vinci, too many injury problems and mental issues. The Toad is talented, but limited for sure.

The Fed is broke, they had the cash, though not sure where it went and there plenty of facilities around to play.

Remember this comment. Sampras, Agassi, Federer. Fy f-n vad de spelar tekniskt.
