Good match by our guys, and Nole appears to be in acceptable form for tomorrow. Now it remains to be seen what happens with Janko.

This match was painful. The Russians just completely forgot how to play doubles many times throughout the match. Downright stupid tactics at times. And they couldn't get out of their own way most of the time. They had so many chances and they all just went away as quickly as they came.

Lucky for Russia, the draw is in their favor. The Djoke will beat Davydenko, most likely. But if that happens Youzhny gets Troicki in the tie-deciding 5th rubber.

Youzhny/Tursunov, as a team, never won a doubles match in Davis Cup, and Troicki won't necessarily play the 5th rubber - Janko could muster up the energy.

Even then it'd still be in Russia's favor.

:woohoo:

I rarely enjoy doubles but i loved it this time, regardless of the result

I'm not really an optimist about the outcome of this tie...possible 3-2 score but we can still pray for a miracle

Youzhny or Tursunov will rip apart Troicki/Tipsarevic in the 5th rubber.

Farenhajt
02-09-2008, 01:13 PM
It'll all depend on Janko's ability to grit his teeth and die on the court.

(The pressure on Troicki would be too much, I agree.)

Yeah but they had some tough opponents...Bryans, Llodra/Clement, now Zimonjic...ain't the shame to lose from doubles players like that

Either way it was satisfying for me...i like Dima, i like Misha, like the other 2...would've been better if Marat stayed instead of kissing Tarpi goodbye (literally) and walking out but oh well...

Misha and Mitya don't like to play doubles together - Sobkin says they don't "feel" or understand each other. So, no surprise in this result. The Russians are still favoured to win the tie tomorrow.

Firstly D'Joke must beat Kolya in their first meeting :)

Farenhajt
02-09-2008, 01:35 PM
Even half-sick Nole has more aces up his sleeve/racquet than a fresh Troicki (no disregard here), and if Troicki could drive Kolya to the 5th, Nole must have at least an even chance (if not better).

I'd like Nole to beat Davydenko tomorrow (and I think he will), Misha vs. whoever though, is another story entirely.

So, no official informations who's gonna play tomorrow?
I hope Tipsarevic's gonna be fine tomorrow. He should, he got the virus before Nole did.

Viruses? Where are they? Both Novak & Janko were very healthy yesterday, day before..

I am so disapointed.

Farenhajt
02-09-2008, 01:50 PM
^^ It's almost certain that the 4th rubber would be between Nole and Davydenko. As for the 5th, still nothing carved in stone.

^ Didn't know that high fever or thigh pains show on TV... but perhaps you have some kick-ass modern appliance. (Or you're just a prick/****, depending on the gender.)

If djokovic wasn't a 100 % today, I don't think he will be 100% either tomorrow, so Kolya has a good chance. If it comes to a 5th rubber, Misha has some very good chances, unless he's too tired from his doubles.

My vote goes to Russia

What a match it was! 3 of my favorite best looking players of the ATP! If only Tipsy would have played instead of Novak! What a fest for the eyes! And they played tennis, too! OK, at least Misha and Zim did! ;)

Expected.

Youzhny/Tursunov is one of the worst doubles combo ever. They should never play together but there was no choice for Tarpischev today.

At least the tie is open for tomorrow but Youzhny should seal the deal for Russia regardless of whom he plays tomorrow.

In the last few days, I've seen ankle injury, thigh injury, flu, and food poisoning all listed for Janko. Is it really those 'lying serbs' or is it just very lazy reporting?

:secret: They have the flu, not food poisoning. If it was food poisoning they would have gotten sick at about the same time.

there was official release of serbian davis cup team who someone posted here but moderators perhaps deleted because was in serbian
in which was said that stomack bug was invention for tactical reasons because the situation with flu.About Novak's flu he had symptoms since Monday, but couldn't use medication for fear of doping control: "There was a long period of waiting, 48 hours, for a clearance to arrive from the Antidoping Agency in Sweden, to be able to use medication, thus Novak had to skip practices on Wednesday and Thursday.safin also has flu (cold),he was sneezing a lot in friday and today he stay for little and then he left:wavey:

If Tipsy was healthy he could have formed the most intimidating doubles team ever. Just check out this picture of Zimonjic from the ATP website:

Yeah, great tactical move, taking Janko out of the tie. Pure brilliance.

If Janko is not playing, it's because he is unable to play for whatever reason. That's all I need to know. If he was healthy, I'm sure it would take a few men to hold him back and keep him off that court. Same with Novak, if he sat out on Friday it's because he knew he couldn't make it through five sets. He may have played today just so they could get at least one point from this infortunate situation.

Safin's website said on Thursday or Friday that he would not play due to the tear in his calf. Not sure why so many people were surprised by his absence.

The Russian Davis Cup doubles teams are weak if Safin isn't playing. :o And that was another example of dissapointing doubles today against the Serbians. :( It's amazing that a country that produces many good singles players can't produce good doubles teams or good doubles players.

As shocking as it may sound, not many ppl visit his site...why not? beats me

Jokes aside it did get on my nerves that the commentator kept reapeating how he doesn't know why Tarpi didn't let Marat play and how Marat's ego is hurt and that's probably the reason why he wasn't watching the match blah blah blah...i kept yelling at the tv like a man woman but what you gon do when they don't get informed about Marat's fibula

Now as for the official statement, it's one big :bs: it's better to keep your mouth shut sometimes...
Supposedly Tipsarevic's sickness is a made up story, his thigh is the problem but they didn't say anything until the last moment to throw the Russians off.
Novak is, again supposedly, sick, didn't train for 2 days, again tried to throw the Russians off, in this case Misha, by not saying anything, which btw is weird since half of us knew days before that he won't play but i guess Misha and the company live under a rock.
Zimonjic is sick and played with a high temperature-over 38 both days.
Viktor is as healthy as it gets.
Great tactic you guys :yeah: they should teach it in the military

Everything canceled til Memphis

I only know what was posted on his official website, www.maratsafin.com. Tournament websites are always the last place to admit a player has pulled out because it affects ticket sales. Marat is taking two weeks off, and is not scheduled to play until Memphis (and I won't be surprised if he misses that in favor of being completely healthy for LV and Indian Wells). San Jose will not change their site until they can announce the replacement.
